The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Ah yes, the days of me posting "So this cool Muse-related thing happened to me today..." like every day. Not gonna have that this year since I won't be seeing them this year (unless they do the 10-song-set holiday circuit again like in 2009). Rumors of a new single this week but I'm skeptical.

Are cameras definitely allowed?
My friend actually has a high-end point-and-shoot that LOOKS like a DSLR but isn't actually one, yet she always gets turned away from shows with it even though it has no detachable lens. She doesn't bother anymore, but bottom line is, don't take any chances with something remotely resembling a DSLR. It especially sucks if you're GA and you get rejected at the gate, of course. Still, I've never had a problem with my lovely point-and-shoot. Venues seem to have loosened up with recording video in my experience, but every now and then some security guard will tell you to stop, so my advice with recording is if you plan on doing it, try not to be near a security guard if possible, haha. :laugh3: However, turn off your flash. I find it hilarious watching concert footage from like 2006 and seeing nothing but flashes in the audience. People have smartened up since then, and many venues have giant signs saying "NO FLASH" these days, and to be honest, photos look way better without the flash provided you have proper settings on, though you need to fiddle with the ISO a bit. Phone camera...obviously everyone has them, but don't use them, guys. Not even your fancy iPhone 4S camera. They suck for shows. Zoom's crap. Video's crappier. Audio's even crappier. (and having to watch a show through the person in front you's iPhone because it's blocking your view the whole time is pretty much the worst thing ever)

Or freaking out that tentative song titles from 3 years ago were never released to the public as part of some huge conspiracy, even though every band begins writing dozens and dozens of songs for a new album but only end up completing a small handful of them. :laugh3::rolleyes:

Haha, no prob, I took other pics but those were my best. Funnily enough, I think the only new song that doesn't work very well live is Youth Without Youth. Ya know, being the lead single and all. It just feels really flat in performances.

Metric
Haha, nice. :laugh3: I grabbed her hand at the end of the show last night, so that was fine enough for me. Just got back from Jimmy Kimmel, making two nights in a row of FREE Metric shows in LA for me. Yeah, shorter set than a regular show, but 6 songs is actually the most I've ever seen a band play at Kimmel. Also, I figured they'd just go the crowd-pleasing route by playing "Help I'm Alive" at the end or something, but they played "Empty" instead as the obligatory older track, which was pretty great. Kimmel's shows are, of course, mainly tourists who think it'd be cool to catch a free show while in town, so there were only a handful of actual fans in attendance. But we migrated toward each other and made it a fun night anyway. And time to bore you guys with pics from last night:

^ Awesome footage! :D Three takeaways from last night's show: A) Synthetica material is better live. I felt "Nothing But Time" and the title track were the ones that were enhanced the most live. B) "Dead Disco" is still the high point of their shows. C) Emily's kind of a bitch in person. She bolted for the cab after and said they had no time to say hi, but Jimmy stuck around for several minutes and met all the fans waiting (there were only like 12 of us), so they clearly had time. But Emily and the other two just sat there in the cab right next to us the whole time. Here's my Lost Kitten video. Only video I took. I have some great pics but haven't edited them yet. Seeing Metric tonight for the first time since 2009. I'm not really physically attracted to Emily Haines anymore but I'll take some photos for everyone, anyway. Excited to hear how the new material sounds live. Also, I think "Lost Kitten" has become my favorite on the album. Sounds like something from Grow Up and Blow Away.

Wolf Gang wasn't a "random catch". I fully intended on seeing him. :P

Caught these guys by total chance at Coachella because I arrived really early one of the days. Definitely my best "random catch" of the festival. If I had to think of the best comparison I can imagine, I'd go with Editors-meets-Vaccines.

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
The site Muse used for their North American presales last tour. It worked out pretty well. Most tickets were GA. You didn't have to register or anything for it so there were still lots of scalpers, but lots of casual fans didn't know the site even existed.
-
The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
This lottery system sounded stupid in the first place. Scalpers can still register like any "real fan" can. But I saw a bunch of people all like "This is great, guarantees real fans get them!" Lo and behold, exactly what I thought would happen has happened, and I'm seeing far more bitching than rejoicing from my European friends. Good luck in the general sale, guys. :/ I hope NA just sticks with Concertmaps like with the Resistance tour. I actually liked that system. Tickets go in a flash but more keep being released at very predictable intervals.

If my unit conversion was correct, that's still a lot cheaper than Coldplay's stupidly overpriced shows here. ($125 with fees, which I guess comes out to £80) But that Muse price is pretty comparable to ours.

I'm game, as long as someone's willing to host it. (no, I won't either haha)

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Don't know what the Coldplay-vs.-Muse price range is over there, but last tour here in the U.S., Muse's ticket prices were around half of what Coldplay's Viva shows cost. Granted, I think Coldplay is the scammer of all scammers, especially for a band that uses floor seating in arenas, so even if Muse's prices jump here this tour, I still won't view them in the awful light I view Coldplay price-wise. Just hope I don't view the quality of the upcoming album in the same awful light as Coldplay either. :laugh3::dozey:

Concerts/Artists you have seen/Are planning to see
IKR? MMJ announced 3 pretty intimate shows here in LA, each with a different opener. Obviously I went for the Iron & Wine night.
-
The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
I haven't listened to it and I still call shenanigans. You'd think people would approach with more caution 50 leaks later, but no, it feels like the Muse fan populace is getting younger and dumber...

Garbage were fantastic last weekend. Sadly, most of the crowd were high school students (might be the youngest crowd I've ever been in) only there for Silversun Pickups, who headlined and were also good, but not AS good. Just bought MMJ tickets this morning, so here is my updated itinerary: Aug 13: The Kills Sep 12: My Morning Jacket w/ Iron & Wine Sep 15: Austra Oct 7: Florence and the Machine w/ The Maccabees Oct 9: Metric Oct 12-14: Austin City Limits (RHCP, Jack White, Neil Young, etc.) Grizzly Bear show was just announced but sadly will not fit in my schedule. Might be able to do Beach House, though.

Skrillex is indeed NOT pure dubstep, but he's become the defining face anyway. I, of course, still hate him. About a year-and-a-half ago, I was at Coachella watching The Drums in the early afternoon, and Skrillex was playing one tent over (no one knew who he was yet) and we were getting this AWFUL BLEED the whole time and I couldn't enjoy The Drums. And that was the beginning of my ever-growing Skrillex hatred. We've already lost Ellie Goulding to him. :laugh3::cry:

Hey Muse, don't make me turn on you like I've turned on Coldplay. I've spent way too much money on you for that. The intro instrumental sounds great, so hopefully that terrible rock-dubstep-fusion-thing (it's not pure dubstep) will be on one terrible song max (kinda like how that slap bass they were talking about for The Resistance only ended up on one terrible song).

Grizzly Bear...
Finally these fuckers are back. Such a good track, too.

I miss the days when Coldplay had more than one band member.

Incredible photos, especially those last 3. Apparently a friend of mine had a photo pass for last night's show, so I'm incredibly jealous of him, but I'm glad you guys got a great spot too! No idea how you screw up Idioteque on consecutive nights when you've been playing it basically every show for the past 12 years, but entertaining as hell regardless. :laugh3:
