  1. Just wanted to recommend one of my favorite albums - Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell. Honestly, I'd recommend any Social D album. They are both catchy and raw, which is a rare combination indeed. They are a blend of Johnny Cash Country, Punk, Rockabilly, and a touch of alternative. I love them.
  2. New video. Me likey! One of the best arena rock bands ever.
  3. Yeah, disintegration is a great album, and I think it can definetly benefit from remastering. If you watch the Trilogy DVD, and hear the sound quality of Plainsong (which might get my vote for best opening track to any album), you recognize that the album version could be sharper. I am excited to hear what it sounds like. I wouldn't knock myself out listening to post-Wish Cure. It is very, very, spotty IMO. The track gloaming09 mentioned, Underneath the Stars, is by far the best track since Wish. I do think Wish is very good album, too. But its always been about Disintegration for me. I just love that album.
  4. I love Underneath the Stars, as well. In fact, it was the only song I really enjoyed off the last album. Disintegration has a lot of songs that have the same feel to it. As much as I love The Cure, they have a lot of music I don't care for. However, I've found two things to be true: 1. Disintegration is flawless 2. When the Cure are at their best, their best is better than almost any other band, IMO.
  5. Just want to point out that an amazing album, Disintegration, is going to be released as a deluxe re-mastered version later this month. In my opinion, it's one of the greatest albums of all time.
  6. I'm surprised there wasn't a countdown to the posting of the link.
  7. This thread is still kicking?

I always want to get around to exploring Dylan albums, but it's just like the Rolling Stones - Too many albums. I've got most of the "classics." I need to take a listen.
  9. How did you like the last CD? I've listened to bits and pieces, but it didn't sound as laid back as his first 3 CDs (excluding Curious George). I have it, but I was wondering whether or not it is worth a listen.
  10. I've been listening to a lot of the live CD, "How the West Was Won." It's the first time I've really listened to it in depth. Freaking hell, that band is explosive. You know the band is going to be good, but Robert Plant's vocals are dead on (not to imply that they should be off, it just seems that vocals tend to be the biggest drop off when it comes to a live CD).
  11. I've been listening to the Live at Royal Albert Hall CD. That is a damn good CD. I especially like the live version of Bling. Good stuff. Only thing that pisses me off is that they cut Sweet Talk from the CD, and I know they played it because it's on the DVD. Bastards!
  12. I am glad you like it. Aside from the queen is dead, I listen mostly to compilations (there are only 3 other studio albums anyhow). The combination of moz's voice/lyrics and Johnny marr's jingle jangle guitar make them unlike any band I've ever heard. Edit: just wanted to add that most best of collections don't have many of my favorite songs off of the queen is dead including: the queen is dead (song), cemetary gates, and especially I know it's over. Gotta get the queen is dead.
  13. So true. And there wouldn't be bands like the smiths without bands like the beatles. And there wouldn't be bands like the beatles without bands like buddy holly and the crickets. And there wouldn't be bands like buddy holly without early American R&B. And so it goes... I know I'm skipping around, and the lists are far from inclusive, but it shows the progression of music. Each time a new generation adds it's own twist, or so it's suppossed to (I have my doubts sometimes).
  14. Me too. I try to bump threads of classics bands, but they usually sink like a lead balloon. It's not like I'm stuck in a particular time period, as I listen to everything from buddy holly to the killers. But I find it odd that people spend so much time listening to these drive by bands when they've never taken a listen to an album like the queen is dead. If only one person listens, my work is done :)
  15. Since I am shamelessly bumping, I thought I would state something that is obvious: the smith CDs need to be remastered. I've been listening to the queen is dead and meat is murder, and I have to crank my stereo to get decent sound. I know they've been remastered and released in vinyl, but when are they coming to cd?
  16. ^ Damn, I love Bono, and would probably vote for him, but that's a tough list.
  17. I wish I would have just got the boxed set. Because they are sold individually in a digipack, as opposed to an acrylic case, I am starting to see some damage to the cases, which sucks, as I am a condition freak. Obviously, I have been getting the stereo version, as they are the only ones available individually. I am trying to get my friend to let me borrow the mono collection, and I will just import them into my iTunes. I think I am going to have a hard time wrestling them away from him, though. I think he might actually sleep with them. On a side note, the one thing I really like about the stereo remasters is it allows you to more accurately compare it to today's music. I like that it's kind of an "apples to apples" comparison. It's hard to believe this stuff was recorded 40-50 years ago. Not to say the stereo version is better because I really want the mono. It's just the only thing I have right now.
  18. On vinyl? I would like to start collecting beatle memorabilia. My mother collected stuff growing up that I'm sure would be worth a fortune today. Unfortunately, my grandmother threw it out when she moved. I know, it's not an uncommon story. Anyhow, a friend of mine knows Perry D. Cox, who along with Frank Caiazzo, is considered one of the leading experts on Beatles memorabilia. I love that stuff. When you look at it, it seems to take you to a romantic, simpler time. I wish I would have been in my teens during the 60s.
  19. Hmmm. That's different from what I've read. I've seen at least 10 articles touting it as a full blown supergroup.
  20. It's my obligatory bump. Nothing new with this band. Morrissey is still an ass, and Johnny Marr will play guitar for whoever asks. But I do love the Smiths.
  21. I agree 100%, although I would tend to call them delusional.
  22. Tomorrow is Saturday, which means it's a trip to the record store to try to find more Beatle remasters. I only have a few left. I'm really enjoying them.
  23. How do you figure Ronnie is not doing a side project? From what I've read (because it's all reports), he's already recorded the album. It's not like he's making a guest appearance - he's the drummer. And how do you know it's a one-off? It's too early to tell. To me, Ronnie and Brandon are doing the same thing. I agree it was over-hyped, but I do like the fan girls. Brandon is a star, no doubt.
  24. Most guys feel that way, me included. Sometimes chris' lyrics are too whiney, but he is capable of writing some fantastic songs.
  25. I hope it is stuff like in the YouTube video. If it's stuff that he could have done with the Killers, I'm going to be pissed.
