You could also add Four Tet Beirut Sigur Rós Atlas Sound Pavement (not really contemporary, are they) and for a little quirkiness maybe one of Jonny Greenwood's compositions from his score for the movie Norwegian Wood (mostly strings). I personally like mixtapes with a bit of stylistic inconsistency, makes'em catchier.

^^ Remembering Cage I went on youtube to listen to some. That's the first piece popping up there. People 'listen' to it like mad it seems. But apart from that, I don't have a problem with it. Put it in it's era's context, you'll get abstraction/ decomposition of form in any art field. He was simply being very consequential here. Somebody had to do that at one point of human affrontement with music and sounds, I think. Et voilà, there you go.
