  1. Cirque du Monde? Bonjour again, my friends! I'm writing an essay for school about how crazy the state of affairs in the world is today. The text is in all-English, but I want to give the essay a French title to give it a bit more pizazz. So I want the title to be the French translation for "Circus of the World". So how would you say "Circus of the World" in French? Is it "Cirque du Monde"? From what I understand, that is a literal translation. What do you guys think? Am I right? Merci!
  2. I pretty much assumed that 'dying day' referred to the 'end of the day'.:) So in French- Is it okay to say 'Fin du jour' to mean 'dying day' (AKA 'end of the day')?
  3. Bonjour again! Can you guys tell me what the French phrase "Fin Du Jour" means in English? Quite literally, it translates into "End of the Day". However, I looked up "Jour" over at WordReference.com, and I scrolled down the Compound Forms section at the bottom of the results page (http://www.wordreference.com/fren/jour). According to that list, "Fin Du Jour" could also mean "Dying Day".:book2: Is that true? Could that phrase be used in such a fashion? Merci again!
  4. Bonjour again! While perusing Wikipedia yesterday, I stumbled upon the following French phrase: Nom De Plume What does that French phrase translate into in English? I spotted it in a sentence that read like this: "Linda Strawberry (real name Linda Michelle Rowberry) is the nom de plume of a Los Angeles singer." According to Free Translation Online (http://translation2.paralink.com), "Nom De Plume" means "Pseudonyme". Would that be accurate? Merci!
  5. Well, I'm trying to say "of the free" in French. Kind of like how Americans say "of the brave" in the last line of their national anthem. I guess I'm referring to people who are free. But I could also be referring to hearts that are free, or even souls that are free. I know I'm being ambiguous. But the English language allows you to be ambiguous. I mean- phrases like "Home of the brave" and "Day of the dead" are considered grammatically correct to Americans. So I really can't treat "of the free" as "of the adjective" in French like they do in English?
  6. Thanks for your input. I got the idea of "Cirque du Libre" from "Cirque du Soleil," the Canadian entertainment company. "Cirque du Soleil" means "Circus of the sun". So why can't I use "Cirque du Libre" to mean "Circus of the free"?
  7. I have a question for any of the French natives here. What is the exact, literal French translation for the English phrase "Circus of the Free"? It is the title of an essay I wrote for school. It's kind of a play on the phrase "Land of the free".;) So how do you guys say/write "Circus of the free" in French? Here's my attempt: "Cirque du Libre" Is that it? Am I missing something?
  8. Do people actually refer to 30 Seconds to Mars as 'emo'?

    Welcome!:D
  12. I've never been to a GD concert before. When GD covers songs, do they cover those songs in their entirety? Or just in snippets (like U2 usually does)?
  13. According to GDA, Green Day covered AC/DC, the Rollings Stones, and Beatles songs at the Sydney shows. Did Green Day cover those songs in their entirety? Or just snippets?
  14. ^I wasn't trying to gain a 'scoop', whatever that is. Nor was I even trying to cause trouble. Like I said, Britney was hated 10 years ago because she was leading that whole teen-pop era of the late 90s, and everyone shits on teen pop. So I was wondering if people have had a new-found acceptance of her now that she's had much success for over 10 years and maintained a solid fanbase. That's all.
  15. Would you guys condemn all her fans (including my co-workers) for liking her? Why or why not?
  16. Hey guys- Ten years ago, she was nothing more than a teen idol with very little talent. She, along with ‘NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys, dominated the pop music charts in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Everyone feverishly hated on her, and savagely poked fun at her. And everyone theorized that she would disappear like all manufactured, teen-pop acts. Well- She didn’t. Last year was a banner year for ‘The Princess of Pop’. She went on an incredibly successful world tour that was critically acclaimed and highly attended. It was probably her biggest tour to date. Hell, even my two 35-year-old co-workers went to see her live at the AAC in Dallas. Britney seems to have won and/or re-gained the respect from the mass audience. Everyone last year was like: “Britney’s back and she’s straightened herself out”. On top of that- She still lip-syncs. How do you feel about Britney’s renewed popularity? Has your view of Britney changed in the wake of the revitalization of her music career? Have you developed deep inside you a newfound R-E-S-P-E-C-T for Britney? When you think of Britney’s recent success story- Would you say “Good for her”? Why or why not? By the way- Let’s avoid such clichéd assertions like “The music industry sucks”. I’m trying to find some fresher arguments regarding Britney’s mark on popular music. Thanks guys.

All the more reason for me to go back to watching Dave.
  18. Hey Green Day fans. I didn't get a chance to see GD live last year, because I was busy seeing a total of four U2 concerts.:dizzy: Is it true that Green Day's setlists for their current tour are REALLY long? I looked around on the Green Day Authority website for all the setlists from the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. Most nights Green Day plays between 25-30 songs!:stunned: Is that a fact? Can someone confirm this? Anyone seen Green Day live last year? I'm a bit taken aback. After all, U2 plays only 22-23 songs in concert every time they tour.:inquisitive:
  19. Can't wait to get Up to Now. I'm glad it's not a 'greatest hits' package.
  20. That black Tele is sick.
  21. Fix You is an easy pick for most meaningful lyrics. The Scientist, Yellow, and Clocks are also that profound.
  22. MTV wouldn't know a 'breaking story' if it hit them in the face.
  23. I saw Snow Patrol open for U2 in Foxboro. The "Snow Patrol HEART Boston" was so cute.:dozey:
  24. I saw Muse open for U2 in Dallas. I loved how the spotlight kept reflecting off of Matthew's silvery guitar.
