Inception
The Joker is certainly the most famous of Batman's arch nemesis, but definitely not the only one. i don't think Nolan's Batman franchise is going to take a nosedive just because Ledger's no longer available to play The Joker. The Riddler is actually quite an interesting foe, if done right (i.e. no bloody Jim Carrey OTT campy shite pls!)...& Nolan doesn't want to have Mr Freeze or The Penguin in his Batman movies anyway. so unless we're starting to look at minor baddies, there aren't many options left. + he wants to stop at 3 Batman movies...having a different foe in each movie's more interesting than having 2/3 revolve around The Joker. anyway it's been going around for ages that Nolan likes the idea of having The Riddler onboard if possible...it's just a matter of whether it would happen & if it did, who'd play him. before the current rumour that Joseph Gordon-Lewitt might get the role, there were also rumours that either Philip Seymour Hoffman or David Tennant would get it. & The Riddler is one who loves puzzles...i'd think that Nolan's the best person to bring The Riddler's mind games to life since Nolan is clearly one who likes puzzles & mind games too ('Inception', 'The Prestige', 'Insomnia', 'Memento').

*lol* i'm sure he'd have help from us too...we wouldn't let any harm come to that dear of a lanky Irishman, would we? ;) & what a contrast...the 2 Garys.

:D i passed the 25 mark a long time ago. was already 29 when i started on my course. now approaching the 30 mark this year. :dozey: yeah! love his works (& street art in general too)! & i stay almost literally right across the road from 1 of his works here in Bristol at the moment! i suppose the book you're talking about is 'Wall & Piece'? it's a pretty interesting book...apparently self published by Banksy! :) *lol* pretty much. he's quite tall compared to me too (Tom's pretty much the only SP guy i can talk almost eye-to-eye with) & he had to kinda squat down a bit to hear what i was mumbling (yeah, i pretty much mumbled my way thru my brief time with each of the 4 SP guys). & the 1 thing i noticed then was the scar on his eyebrow. & when he took a photo with me, he also kinda squat down again so that Pablo could get both of us in the photo on my camera...Jonny's face was like right next to mine. :P i think 'Chasing Cars' & 'Run' (especially 'Run'!) are great songs, tho 'Chasing Cars' isn't their best...so it's kinda unfortunate that most ppl know SP for "the (overplayed) chasing cars song". i do like what they've done with the Reworked Tour version of 'Chasing Cars', but i can't help but wonder if the reason they've added a chanty bit in there is due to partial influence by Coldplay & the Viva chant with a live crowd after touring with them. same goes for the delay riff intro to the Reworked version of 'The Planets Bend Between Us'...possible influence by U2 from touring with them? anyway, i digress. i REALLY love the Union Chapel version of 'Chasing Cars' too...that'd make a great wedding song (i think i've said it before, but...just for good measure. hehe)

they'd have to be recording in a dream w/i a dream to achieve that! :P (sorry, still in Inception mode...tho i think you'd know what i mean anyway) think i've seen photos of him wearing shirts at "normal" SP gigs...tho i definitely remember him being in a full suit complete with tie for the Reworked tour. he was back to his usual clothes post gig tho... :) *lol* the blue shirt = Gary vs The Weird French Woman

*re-emerges from self isolation... :curtain: poor Tom...destined to be at the bottom of everyone's list from the looks of it. :P & i didn't really think Jonny was that good looking from photos, but i've now changed my opinion of him...cos in person, he's actually quite the looker. esp with that distinct scar across his left (i think) eyebrow...yeah, i got a REAL good look of Jonny. *lol* Pablo isn't really my type tho...i got the impression he's the "emo boy" type somehow. tho a soft spoken & nice & friendly one. heh BUT Gary's still (predictably) top of my list of SP guys. :wacky: ah...love love love this song & the lyrics!!! :D & also 'Chocolate' : This could be the very minute I'm aware I'm alive All these places feel like home With a name I'd never chosen I can make my first steps As a child of 25 (my mantra/inspirational song so far for the duration of my course...tho i'm a bit older than 25...heh) & 'Hands Open' : It's not as easy as willing it all to be right Gotta be more than hoping it's right (keep thinking of this when i get frustrated cos i'm stuck with a programming problem i thought should've been working right the first time round) & also 'You Could Be Happy' (just the whole frigging entire song! ah...loving someone who's happier being with somebody else, just not you...) & also 'Make This Go On Forever' : We have got through so much worse than this before What's so different this time that you can't ignore You say it is much more than just my last mistake And we should spend some time apart for both our sakes & not forgetting 'Run' : Light up, light up As if you have a choice Even if you cannot hear my voice I'll be right beside you dear Louder louder And we'll run for our lives I can hardly speak I understand Why you can't raise your voice to say ...which reminds me, once i'm done with my project i actually want to a little picture thingy with the entire song's lyrics with a picture block i have of this Banksy graffiti: suddenly got the idea one day recently cos i thought the song's lyrics & this graffiti seem very well suited to go together... :dozey:

Inception
it also uses minimal CGI, including simulating zero gravity, in this day & age of (possible) over reliance on computing wizardry & the overhyping of the 3D experience. also, if you are a student doing/going to go into media studies or film studies (or anything field of study related to narrative structure and presentation), i forsee that this movie is going to be part of the syllabus...like how Nolan's much earlier masterpiece 'Memento' is.

it all comes down to potential sales figures...or what record labels think is going to sell based on the region. & i think for TP, since it's being pushed 1st & foremost as a "Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol side project", they expect sales to be Ireland > UK > Europe > US >>>>>>>>>>>>> Rest of the World & the reality is they're probably 1/2 right in anticipating that. cos let's face it, especially outside of the UK/US markets, & as far as Asia is concerned, most ppl don't know who Snow Patrol are & associate REM with Michael Stipes + his band, i.e. "Peter who?". i had to give a (fellow) Malaysian an almost complete run down of who's who in TP & how they are related to SP or REM...& then she admitted that the only REM song she knows is 'Everybody Hurts' + she actually thought 'Run' was a Leona Lewis song + the only SP song she knows is "that one that was on 'Grey's Anatomy'"! :dozey: ...by which point i'm ready to forgive her for telling me she didn't know SP struggled for like 10yrs before making it big (she thought they were already big when they "started out" with 'Run', thanks to Leona Lewis). & then there's my Indian classmate who has spent the last 23yrs of his life under the blissful assumption that to d/l songs & movies online via BT or filesharing (i.e. not via iTunes, etc) is completely LEGAL!!! & even after the revelation on the illegalness of what he's doing, he asks me repeatedly why i even bother to spend money buying an album... (i do hope for the sake of my fellow Asians that he's an exceptional case of supreme blissful ignorance/naive thinking)

*lol* yeah! & that too! sometimes i wonder if all these critics realise that in order for a band to be able to survive to keep making albums is to become popular...cos then at least they're financially secure enough to be able to make good music as & when they can instead of having to juggle time between a normal daytime job & gigs/recording/jamming. i have a classmate who's in a band, but they aren't big/signed to anyone so he's managing his time between his MSc dissertation + working part time + band time. i'm in awe at his ability to be able to get so much done even! totally random, but my 1st thought when i saw this photo: "Shiny Happy People" :D (btw, it's an REM song, for anyone who don't know ;) )

awww...the blue shirt! :wacky: (i think from this day forward, that shirt's just going to be known as "the blue shirt" whenever it appears... *lol*) wow! & he thinks the new SP album can be done in 6wks! he's working fast...Go Gary Go!!! :P @Anna: interesting questions...looking forward to watching it! especially with all the effort you put into it...much appreciated! :)

haha...same here...i may just put this in my phone as a quick "go to" for a pick-me-up when i'm away from my computer...who needs sunflowers when you have Gary's infectious smile to brighten up the day? :wacky: it's such a mouthful! 'Unfortunately For You, This Is No Bloodless Coup' & that's compared to the following songs : 'Get Balsamic Vinegar...Quick You Fool' or 'We Can Run Away Now They're All Dead And Gone' or 'Please Just Take These Photos From My Hands' ...oh, wait. our boy's already got a penchant for long song titles... :dozey: on another note, i kinda like how in a few of the reviews i've read of the TP album/gig, the reviewers mention that the songs have prompted them to possibly give the SP albums another re-listen or to actually check out SP's stuff... :) & on a totally other note, i'm kinda not surprised that Gary simply loved 'Inception' (darnit! he beat me to watching it twice!), but his review of the movie is very well written, imo. whatever i have to say or have been saying to my friends about 'Inception', he's got it covered spot on! think i shall just refer ppl who haven't seen it & go "oh, it's that good? it didn't seem that way from the trailer..." when i tell them to go watch 'Inception' to his review. :P

*lol* that might've been either myself or Elena...we were joking around about her recent attempts to get SP to play 'Warmer Climate', which would've been really suitable at the time in the colder climate. :P haha...the US is *so* massive! they've got loads of options! but i hope for you US peeps that they just happen to choose your town... currently incredibly hooked on 'That Silver Necklace'... :bigcry:

haha...well, i'm not that tall either. & Gary towers over me! & yes, i wouldn't complain if i had his head resting on mine either... ;) yeah...then we could have a video of him saying he'll get wet in the rain with us too! :D oh, wells... it did get pretty cold that night (considering the heatwave in London so far before that day!) & i think most of us were feeling the cold what with the strong wind & on/off rain [sP pun intended]. i seem to have a tendency of seeing Gary when it's cold out...it was winter when i last saw him. :P yeah, i guess Peter's the one with the most experience & all via REM. he really had the whole "elder statesman" vibe going playing away on his guitar & subtly striking some classic rock guitarist moves in his corner. & that moment when Gary admitted Peter had (also subtly) passed by from behind to remind him to play the A chord instead of G! haha  any guesses as to which American city they'll go to next? seems that the criteria is somewhere with a musical vibe & has a thriving music community/scene...i'm guessing possibly Nashville (in keeping with the whole "country-tinged music" thing), but i am also kinda hoping for Seattle...home of grunge - Nirvana, Pearl Jam...if they are going to go with a rockier tone for the 2nd album...

yeah, i was thinking he's probably in that kinda sleepy state that a couple of pints of beer puts you in... :dozey: i'm afraid i may never be able to figure out how...he sets quite a high benchmark! :P :laugh3: yes, indeed! :D yeah, i vaguely remember the "Gary's sister" was a blond girl. & i can imagine that if the drunk lady had also stayed til the end, Gary'd probably freak out completely between the embarrassing rants of the French woman & whatever craziness the drunk lady might've come up with! *lol* you must look very young too then! :D (sorry, i can't really remember if anyone stood out to me as being very kid-like)

Inception
my friend's review of the movie... Inception * * * * - e-ramblings he's quite a good movie reviewer tho he tends to favour high brow type of movies at times. he gave it 4/4 stars & he doesn't give out 4/4 star ratings that often (so it must've REALLY impressed him)...i'm tempted to agree with him on this one.

haha...ah, so i wasn't imagining his drink level at the time then. :P well, i think the queueing situation wasn't so bad in the end since the show didn't seem to be sold out (despite earlier advertising claims) cos it seemed to me you could still buy tickets on the spot. which is probably a good thing also since it was raining on & off through the day & i wouldn't want to be queueing in the rain! + i just realised the irony of it, but i actually went wandering around in the Camden Horse Stables Market on the day of the Tired Pony gig... :dozey: & yes, i can still hear the collective "awww" reaction to his statement... :wacky: PR talk or not, that got me hook, line & sinker! daym you, Gary! how the hell am i going to find a guy who matches up to you now??? :P i'd have said hi to you girls too, if i'd known who to look out for! :) the other Asian girl was actually in the queue right behind me with her friend & i was initially wondering if that might've been you & a-chan. oh dear! that bad! :stunned: was the drunken lady the one who claimed very loudly that the girl with her is Gary's sister? i gave them a "yeah, right...what the hell you doing out here then?" look & the girl she claimed to be Gary's sister was looking very embarrassed... :P ying! welcome to CPing.com! :D  make sure to drop in & say "hi" in the SP thread too, if you haven't already!

*lol* yeah! his "huh???" reaction when you asked him how was the pizzas! :laugh3: actually, i thought he didn't look/sound as tired as during the Reworked Tour. he really looked tired then & his voice was super hoarse post gig in Bristol. tho i detected a bit of a beer-y breath there this time. :P yup, i had a small dark blue umbrella. :) hmmm...i've gone to a Mew gig last year, but i didn't stay to meet any of the Mew guys. i was in the Kentish Town & Camden Town areas throughout the day, but i only started queuing around 5+ when i'd passed by & saw the 2 ladies standing near the barriers at the front. & unfortunately, i'm not the Asian girl who got a hug from him...never actually been on the receiving end of a Gary hug. :disappointed: but i've met Gary before in Bristol & took a photo with him back then - closest i got to a hug (he had his arm round my shoulder)...so i wasn't *too* gutted that i never got a hug or take a photo with him or anything that night. anyway, Gary volunteering to get wet also since we were all drenched in the rain totally made my day! :D yeah, i think a lot of ppl thought the same too. i even thought 'Your Bible' became 'The Good Book'. but for all we know now, it's probably one of the tracks that never made it to the album. maybe there'll be more B-Sides to come like 'I Finally Love This Town'? next single is 'Get On The Road', if i remember right... :) & i'm not very sure of this, but i think 'Chain of Fools' is also a cover? cos the chorus sounds VERY familiar. ah, ok...so it's not just me who feels that she seemed to be harrassing him! it was really awkward even when that lady was shouting away for him to come out...he's not really obligated to come out, honestly... & Gary seemed to be getting more & more visibly annoyed the more she kept talking, imo...i know i was, cos i couldn't really make out what she was blabbering most of the time beyond "you abuse"(?). pretty patient of him, imo...especially if he heard the same thing i heard her say!

Inception
eh...is there a reason to scream at the end? really enjoyed the movie! great cast doing a great job. & imo, Joseph-Gordon Lewitt seems to be cleverly picking good movies lately (500 Days of Summer then, now Inception). also fairly sure Nolan's got a string of Oscars coming his way for Inception. i thought what was going on with the whole dream thefts & inception thing was easy enough to follow if you paid attention through the movie & a couple of guys who're doing their postgrad in film production thought the same too, but my fellow computer science postgrads & the business postgrad said they got a bit lost & didn't understand certain things/concepts in the movie...? :dozey:

haha...well, i can't remember what i've passed to you & i do spot some gems i don't have (yet) on Karen's link. :sneaky: but, anyway, here yous go... (gawd, i love Gary's Irish accent with the "yous"es & all when he's not consciously neutralising it! :wacky: ) SP B-Sides (Part 1) SP B-Sides (Part 2) the Union Chapel version of 'Chasing Cars' in particular is simply beautiful...got that earmarked for my wedding alongside the original album version of 'The Planets Bend Between Us'! now all i need to do is find the right guy...& try not to compare him too much to Gary, if/when i do... :P

sorry for the silence...been recharging my "tired pony" self. :dozey: pretty sure i'd have seen you two then, even if just quick glances since you mentioned the pizza encounter. i was mostly standing at the edge with Illione (Elena) & occasionally opened up my umbrella to protect us from the rain. &, i'm pretty sure i'm 1 of only 2 Asians waiting around & the other Asian girl spoke French. i don't. ;) & that's awesome that you both got great seats! i had a Rear Standing ticket, but was early enough in the queue (3rd in line! + met 2 lovely ladies who'd been in Ward Park & front row!) to be at the front of the standing area. Elena had the Upper Unallocated Seat ticket, but she also got a good front row seat at her section. :) it was Peter's idea? nice! i was wondering what made them want to re-play Point Me At Lost Islands again, but totally unplugged! for a moment i thought that they might even come towards the rear standing area (like Coldplay'd done in the VLV tour)...though they didn't. but what made that moment outstanding still was that they all really looked like they were enjoying it & the crowd was going along with it, clapping away... thanks, Jen! :D the gig itself was fantastic! & as the others've said, you could really see that the band were all enjoying themselves, having fun jamming onstage that night. & this is given they had a pretty packed day of radio station appearances before the gig. anyway, you can see all that for yourself from the videos, so i'll spare everyone a lengthy review. i really loved Silver Atoms & the other non-album/newly written songs, but they sounded rockier so very likely were left out cos they wouldn't fit in with the general tone of the album. also, after more listens, i've come to think that the "stories" in the songs have a bit of a Springsteen tone to them. but that may just be me... anyway, here's my photos...nothing fantastic & there's some graininess to a few of them, since i wasn't real close to the stage & used digital zoom a lot. :\ [ame=http://www.flickr.com/photos/kimchigang/sets/72157624393118279/show/]Tired Pony @ HMV Forum, London[/ame] oh & i REALLY love the random signed postcard "goodie bags" they were selling at the merchandise stall for just 2 quid! really cute & quaint idea! :D here's mine...no weirdly funny thing written on the front tho... :( i helped Elena to buy 1 too, since there was no merchandise stall in the upper section & when she saw her postcard, she told me that the word written on the back was German for postcard...which is a fantastic coincidence since she'd come all the way from Germany to see them! fancy that! :D

AFAIK Lisa isn't part of Tired Pony. but she was there at the gig last nite & pretty much covering for Zooey's vocal parts (I suppose it was either Lisa/Miriam if they needed a stand-in for Zooey & I think Lisa's style suits the TP mood/songs more). & other than Zooey, the whole TP gang was there. incl Garrett's 2 adorable little girls! :)
