  1. :shocked2: :shocked2: :shocked2: I can't believe no one likes VlV official video. Really. I think the concept is just amazing. The band playing against the background of mellow colored skies, inside the legendary 19th century painting. And Chris with his piercing blue eyes, dancing awkwardly as if he was standing on the edge of an abyss, wearing a white shirt with a red tick, which looks like a bleeding bruise. And in the end they all scatter into rose petals... Eh, you must be kidding. That's enchanting.
  2. Thanks for the article! I'd agree with Guy too - it's time for them to take a break . Maybe a year or so without touring or recording or doing anything. And put a big huge lock on the Bakery's door. I'd guarantee they'd return to the work fresh and eager with a pile of ideas. It's obvious that they've become tired in a creative way of non-stop process.
  3. Ok, people who defend Paradise. (See, I don't even mention ETIAW, MM, MTM). I need something to tell you. God bless Parachutes and AROBTTH, but they are GONE, and became history before some of you were born. And there is no need to repeat it in every single post. Yes, YES, I know that. And I don't want Coldplay to write songs like Blue, Red and Purple. I want them to release good, decent tracks. They may take any direction in the world they want - electronic, jazz, pop, whatever. For me it doesn't matter. I was sincerely surprised with people who disliked Viva. I really don't mind more mainstream or pop sound. You know what? When ETIAW was released I felt really bad about all the criticism (sometimes groundless). I thought it was Ok, it was typical summer hit - a bit light-headed, but nice, dancey tune with great riff and good beat. Nevertheless, it was just ok. But when I heard lead single from new album which, according to the Oracle, represents content of the album, I was like: are you kidding me? It is not even ETIAW, it's worse. I wouldn't mind if it was a b-side or an album track.. But lead single? Oh no. I don't know what you hear in this song that I just can't hear. I don't think it is the worst song ever - it has nice beats, it is listenable. But amazing, inspirational, great? No. Oh, well. As long as I have Us Against the World, I can't complain.
  4. And it has Hurts like heaven as lyrics!!
  5. I agree pretty much with what's been said in first post, except that I don't consider "happy" Coldplay songs any worse than melancholic ones. And I don't think that musically X&Y and Viva were worse than first two albums. What you miss and call true Coldplay sound is just about the mood - dark, melancholic and sad. Viva - musically and lyrically - was a good attempt. It was rather complex, diverse, well-thought and cohesive. Production there was not so flamboyant as on recent MX songs. It was a good, decent album of high quality as every Coldplay song till now.
  6. New single brings tension on the board, eh? Nevertheless, guys, let's be mature grown-ups and stop both fangirl craziness and groundless hatred. So, I gave it a THREE. Generally, I think that this is a rather weak, repetitive song, with same recurring sound and a bit annoying lyrics. It has a bright side to it - strings are actually nice, guitar snippet is good, and I really liked the beat, I think it was an interesting move - to combine hip-hop beats with strings and piano. What disappointed me was Chris' work. His lyrics are just bad. I don't know how to justify it. Usually I listen carefully to lyrics and I like to understand what the artist want to say and relate to that. This song does not touch the strings of my heart. "She was just a girl, she expected the world oooooh ooooh" what's that about? I mean, seriously? Really, comparing to lyrics of Coldplay's old friends Elbow, for example, it sounds childish and plain. It becomes worse when you compare this song to Coldplay's previous albums. I mean Viva (song) was rather poppy as one might say, but it had more than 5 words in it. Actually it had rather meaningful lyrics and interesting metaphors. That things we cannot find neither on ETIAW nor Paradise. And I didn't like Chris' vocals on that. He seems to have adopted new manner of singing the last word of the sentence - very annoying. I'm very upset. I remember giving ETIAW 7 or something, but it had an original blue-grassy riff and I thought they've done this one song as a cheesy dance-y sumer hit. But whole album this way? Are you kidding me? If it was any other band, I'd just left the board without bothering to write something or to listen to the song. But this is Coldplay - they are very talented musicians, capable of making great music. And maybe if more of us will show dissatisfaction with the direction they're taking - I mean cheesy lyrics and poppish sound - the bigger chance there is they will do something about it.
  7. And if they needed so desperately someone to sing on PoC why not collaborating with someone less famous and maybe more interesting as an artist? Or Rihanna is the only one in the world who can sing? I don't know, Adele seems huge now in the Stated, Florence Welch is quite popular... So why, why, WHY Rihanna?
  8. Someone, please introduce Chris to good music. It seems he doesn't know that in the world exists something more profound, deep and beautiful than pop. I don't want to sound snobbish, but the reason I listen to pop music in very small amounts is that it's plain and wears off too fast. It's usually about a girl liking a boy and vice versa - same old story which got old in stone age perhaps. Pop is too simple, too literal. And that what influences Coldplay now. Is it just me, or when they listened to Radiohead, Jeff Buckley and Echo & the Bunnymen their music was far more good?
  9. Yeah, you're absolutely right. And I agree with you on every word. I used to listen to Coldplay and always found something to relate to. It was not only really beautiful music, it was meaningful lyrics. And so it was from Parachutes to Viva la Vida. And now we got this.:cry::cry: WHY, Chris, why do you think that I will relate to this lyrics? Is this poetry, is this art? It's so cheesy... I don't know. Ooooooh- s and a repeating sentence of five words, about a girl expecting the world. Yeah.. metaphors? None. I'm really disappointed, because I know that the boys put a lot of work in this album, and I waited for it for 3 years. And it's not I'm not accepting the new direction. I didn't dismiss ETiAW, because I thought it was a one-off thing, and I could forgive one cheesy single. But this, representing the whole album? I don't know what to say. I don't know where would they go with this whole new direction. Clearly they don't get support from most of their old fans. With Viva it was about new things they were trying, with this album it's about really cheesy, plain lyrics and primitive music. I can't belive I'm saying that, because I do love this band, but they need to be told off. Never forget who you are and where do you come from. Coldplay, you are a rock band and you come from britpop. And yeah, Chris, go on hanging out with pop stars spotting your earrings or whatever. It clearly adds to your ability to write great lyrics.
  10. Para-para-paradise. I Guess Chris has one more stuttering moment. (Po-po-po-poker face, po-po-poker face.... brrr....) Oh Paradise, please, please, be good. Especially lyrically. EDIT: 42d post. :-)
  11. I'm sure that length would be about 42 minutes, maybe more - but not longer than 50 minutes for sure. I guess I've heard enough from the band about long albums and how X&Y turned out to fail mostly because of length. Not very logical to say all that, and than go and make an hour-long album. Besides they seem to be obsessed with making the album sound cohesive.
  12. It's funny that Chris has passion for scruffy clothes. His bandmates though can often be seen wearing something nice. Interesting, where does this hatred for formal clothes come from? *imagining how he would look in tuxedo and loving it* :D
  13. I said it to myself couple of times. And than my life was just an awful wreck.
  14. This thread just destroyed my brain :hangover: It doesn't have any sense AT ALL.
  15. I like The Pierces, though I don't see them collaborating with Coldplay. They can't sing with Chris - it'd be too many people, and their voices don't match. And I don't want to hear our boys playing and them singing 'cause I want Chris' vocals throughout the album :P
  16. Bjork - never really understood what her music is about, but for sure she's influential and quite unique artist. Joy Division - when I listen to them, I plainly want to die. Maybe that depressive mood never let me appreciate the band, I don't know. Bob Dylan - I just don't like his voice. David Bowie - Maybe I'm dumb musically, but I just can't stand his voice and his music. I really tried to dig into, but it's perhaps not my cup of tea. Is it that bad?
  17. Don't let yourself be sad. And wait - life is so unpredictable, everything changes all the time. Time will heal your wounds, just let it happen. Tomorrow will be better, I promise :D
  18. ^ Your avatar is superb. How did you get it?:sneaky:
  19. IMHO, complex does not equals genius. What I like in Coldplay, there are "layers" of music - piano, guitar, bass, drums which play different melodies but interact brilliantly. The Hardest Part as an example. Each part may be very easy but how it all sounds together makes those "spark". And, as I've read somewhere and really liked this point - soft rock is usually easy to play, but try to compose something like that.
  20. I voted 9 for the title, because: 1. The title obviously stands for something. It has a real meaning, mirrored in the album. Maybe we can't see it now, but I'm positive that is the case. Just because the boys would never put something that uncommon on the cover without having something to ground it. That's all. 2. Maybe the title is not the most brilliant one, but it sounds OK. Really, it is not unpleasant for ear, it has certain kind of rhyme with those mailo-zailo thing, which makes it easier to pronounce. 3. I trust them. I see them going on with some theme on this album, and very soon we''ll know what it's all about. So, from billions of other words in the world, that could possibly make it to the title, I think it's the decent ones, and maybe the best. So it's 9.
  21. I don't really like that Eno appears on those musical sites as a co-writer of the new songs. As far as I know, he's more into ambient and electronic staff, which is absolutely opposite to what Coldplay is - a live band. I perfectly understand that the boys want to grow as musicians and do new staff, try new genres, but the truth is - when Chris sits down the piano and sings in his own voice with boys playing their guitars at the back - it's just simply beautiful. And they don't need Eno to do this.
  22. I don't really know how it all works at this forum, but its common practice for moderators or administration to remove meaningless posts. Really, it's just a bunch of random words put together. Just saying....
  23. I guess if she said she'd give some extra information about LP5, she'd get a lot more money from crazy Coldplay fans craving for the smallest piece of information.;):wink3: Maybe it won't be nice to ask her questions about band and album, so whoever wins will have to resist temptation.
  24. I know that I will regret this, when the album is out and its called M Xylobrytes, and I will convince myself that it's not that bad and finally will get used to seeing this title without a startle, but I'll say now that it's just bad. I mean, Xylobrytes - it's not even a word, is it? Prospekt is not a word either, but it's not strange and geeky as this Xylobryte stuff. And you know what's the worst? I think Chris was serious about it. That Xylobryte stuff fits all the descriptions, and I don't think that Chris was deceiving us from the beginning. At least the song titles, mentioned in the same interview, where album title was hinted, are now all revealed.
