  1. Great DVD. Shame about: Making of Ghost Stories, the iTunes animated thing. Those were both fantastic pieces of media that should've ended up on the DVD. :(
  2. I just watched the 2003 Hollywood Bowl gig (where they play Poor Me, One I Love, Moses... :D). It's funny seeing 1. the bass distortion near the end of Daylight, 2. Jonny improvising on One I Love, AROBTTH guitar solos. There's still a hint of that when you see them perform GPASUYF. Even Major Minus had a hint of that (since Jonny improvised his parts in the verses). I don't mind the high level of production at shows, but what I'd like to see is the return of AROBTTH-style instrumentation, which is very guitar/piano heavy. Like a 80-20 split between old-Coldplay instrumentation and stuff-like-Midnight...all of this towards a new stylistic direction though. That could be EDM (which would be interesting - if they delve into more than one facet of what EDM or techno mean, which GS started to do with Midnight vs ASFOS + electronic drums everywhere + Oceans + the vocal sample on Another's Arms). That could be MX part 2 (I think it is overly reductive to pretend like MX is just an overproduced album - I think it was Coldplay's most musically diverse album with interesting/nuanced lyrics written from the same mindset as VLV but over an interesting theme). Miracles might be foreshadowing of my hope - that things will be guitar/piano based but towards a new style. In this case, aggressively-feel-good music.
  3. MX, that album with UATW, UFO, and Up With the Birds? :p
  4. Wow brilliant video! Now that'll be a tough poll between Atlas and Miracles now. It was funny how the "yeah, yeah, yeah" made it into the lyrics of the video. :p
  5. The entirety of VLV..... MX through UATW, UIF to the end of MX....... Oceans to the end of GS. Oh and Atlas through...........Atlas! :p
  6. Is an electric guitar not real compared to an acoustic guitar?
  7. Maybe Chris and Gwyneth were planning to get married and have a divorce for the last 11 years as an artistic exercise. :p
  8. I absolutely love Miracles. My thoughts: 1. Jonny makes this song with that one riff after the first chorus and then his solo with Chris's ooh's. It's kind of reminiscent of the ooh + guitar solo combination in Paradise. The actual guitar line reminds me of the end of Ladder to the Sun's ending climax. 2. The way the bass comes in at the beginning kind of reminds me of the chorus of Sleeping Sun. Just a random thought. Why are people saying this is one of Guy's better basslines? I'm not hearing a lot of musical complexity. It is a nice low bass sound with a nice rhythm, but it's NOTHING like....say Magic, ETIAW, Major Minus, Paradise, X&Y, GPASUYF, Everything's Not Lost...just to name a few excellent Guy lines. *I will concede that it took me a few listens to realize how interesting the bassline in True Love is. 3. The chord progression in the chorus is pretty cool. I also feel like Coldplay hasn't done the I-IV-I thing much in the past so it's really refreshing and feel-goody in a way that not many of their other songs has. This is a song that makes me happy. :) 3b. The way the beat drops before the very end gets me every time. I can feel my stomach drop with how well timed it is. I think they really learned some tricks from Avicii with ASFOS (which has good builds too). 4. WILL CHAMPION. The beat in the first half is good and kind of GS-reminiscent...but the end is absolutely great. Reminds me of the end of ETIAW a lot...4-on-the-floor and so driving. His backing vocals are AMAZING. It's like UATW and Ink met and had a Will Champion lovechild.... [i fear I've said too much] 5. I'm a little skeptical about the instrumentation. I tend to like Coldplay songs that are more clearly 4-instruments, as in Atlas (which I somewhat like better as a song that really showcases Chris's piano, Will's drums, Jonny's BOTH atmospheric and solo-ing guitar, Guy's cool basslines)...whereas this has a very present piano-acoustic guitar thing. Which makes me wonder what it'd be like live. I hope Jonny switches between guitar and piano quickly like The Edge does in the song New Year's Day. 6. The vocal sample in the verse and how it shows up in fuller volume at the end is really cool! It sounds suspiciously like this, which I dig: [video=youtube;fwK7ggA3-bU]
  9. Jaja all I did was search for Will. The ID number on it is 885629217, as compared to 886863442 for ASFOS and 887754380 for this Radio Dial song. (AROBTTH era songs start with a 4, for reference) It could be a scrapped MX era song or it could be something on LP7 - who knows. EDIT: it comes from this song...uses a sample of DAAHF [video=youtube;Hi-8z3ZjhP4] Sorry for the false alarm!!!
  10. Whoa there are some other really interesting titles on ASCAP.... Autodance?
  11. Is the Waltz in B Minor part of the name??
  12. I think EDM but played on a lot of guitars would be cool. :) Also DLIBYH is a really great song - why don't people like it? It's got fantastic guitar lines (one of Jonny's best riffs IMO), interesting vocals, admittedly not the best lyrics on MX or out of Coldplay's work but definitely 1 step "better" than Ghost Stories lyrics, banging drums...
  13. BBB was wrong about the Munich/BBC show. So...
  14. Anybody know the setlist for this show?
  15. Fun for those who went, a disappointment for us people bored on the sidelines. :p
  16. Thanks for posting that! It's magnificent!!!!
  17. Well, I have a few dollars of Google Voice credit so the phone bill part shouldn't be a problem...and I happen to be English by birth . If it needs to be a thoroughly UK person living in the UK then that's all good.
  18. I'd be interested but I have to warn that I'm in EST and therefore the timing might not work out. Let us know? Thanks!
  19. YES. I'm glad someone else thought of this too. :D :D :D
  20. Yeah Chris was NOT holding the long notes in Beautiful Day the way Bono does. I agree about With or Without You. His shirt is hilarious. SUBSTITU2. :D
  21. This is great to see! Chris!!!! Why didn't Bill Clinton mention Bruce? He's singing in such a Chris way.... :D
