🌙 Coldplay: Moon Music 🎵 | Out October 4th | Discussion
Where'd you hear this? Thanks! Exciting news nonetheless!!! Most optimistic - we get Coloratura Pt 2, least optimistic - Moon = Angel Moon and it's a ton of songs like Cry Cry Cry and Biuytiful.

what tickets to buy ?
I went to the 1st night at Chicago (sold out) and started queuing about 4 PM, was 2nd row in general floor seating and about midway down the left side of the runway. Was very happy with being there! Close enough to see Chris on the runway, close enough to see the band / yet far enough to see the whole stage. Your experience may vary, but just wanted to share my experience in case that helps! Very worth it to be on the floor if you feel comfortable doing so (you'll be standing a long time and everything)

What 2 songs you'd cut for "Coloratura"?
This to be honest!! But I do recognize that the production is REALLY TIGHT on all the songs - fireworks, confetti, lights, etc. Which makes it harder to adjust setlists night to night. However, if I had to choose what to cut: -In My Place. It's just simply not as important as The Scientist or Clocks from that album. -HFTW: I feel like most people don't remember this song anymore. It was fun to see it live though. -Charlie Brown: this may be a controversial opinion, and I *love* CB. But Paradise and ETIAW are more well known and Humankind has a similar bouncy energy - so feels duplicative to also have this. -Human Heart: probably the 1 song on the album that feels cuttable. They like Biutyful too much, MU is too important for the fandom/mainstream listeners, LSG I actually quite enjoy - yet HH is also a Chris only song. Btw, I wouldn't want to cut Sparks but wish they'd substitute it for other obscure songs. That slot belongs to UATW and Green Eyes and other stuff like that. 🙂

Queuing time and stages?
In case you're curious, I attended in Chicago, arrived at about 3 or 4 PM and was 2nd row by the runway, 🙂 not too far from the front!

🪐 Coldplay: Music of the Spheres 🪐 | Out Now! | Discussion
For anyone looking in their crystal, what do you think is the likelihood the setlist will be significantly different - read - will Coloratura get played during the Latin American tour pt2? I feel like the first month of shows in Mexico was extremely instrumental and diverse in the songs - including multiple Coloratura performances, Gravity getting played. Yet when I saw them in Chicago, the most experimental thing that happened was ETIAW getting played the 1 time during this tour, and a cool cameo from Lupe Fiasco. But in terms of presenting a diverse slice of Coldplay songs, I was not satisfied. Therefore, I am seriously considering going to Argentina to see one of the shows there - but what if I end up going and not hearing Coloratura again? 😕

I hope so too I’m also going on the 28th!!! Hoping for Coloratura too. And a Jon’s Hopkins cameo would be super fun!!! Relatedly, does anyone have advice on where to stand, when to arrive, etc? When do they sound check? I’ve never been to a Coldplay show yet!

Each show has had a B stage and a C stage so I wonder if that’s what you’re seeing? also curious if anyone has advice on where to stand, where to arrive, etc!

Setlist opinions
I’m really hoping they’ll play Coloratura in Chicago on 28 May, which I’m going to haha. Agree with others that the setlist has been a bit static for first few US shows, weird compared to how much variations/experimentation they were doing in Latin America back in march and April?!

Music of The Spheres World Tour Setlist Predictions
The experimentation has been very interesting from show to show - I wonder if this is how it will be everywhere or if things will even out by the end of the Latinamerican leg. Besides the few things you named, it's interesting to note: -Orphans and IMP have been performed as both acoustic versions and album version -HFTW has a new bassline in the verses and new guitar line during the "la la la..." bridge -Since the 2021 shows, VLV has had an extra guitar line in the 2nd verse -The mashups of Humankind/Infinity Sign with Charlie Brown / SJLT Glad to see they're keeping things fresh and hope we can continue further conversation about the setlist's evolution here! The tweaks are interesting

Spotify Singles Recording | Let Somebody Go & Kid Cudi "Day 'n' Nite" Cover
Agreed - the piano is too flashy to have been Will haha. But Chris does a good job of layered acoustic guitar with heavy delay effects (see Magic, UATW, ends of the C stage songs on AHFOD tour, Orphans) so Gideon’s point makes sense too !

Spotify Singles Recording | Let Somebody Go & Kid Cudi "Day 'n' Nite" Cover
Loved both! LSG with extra Jonny is perfect. Day n Nite was really cool and I hope at some point they release video for it?!?!?! I have a sneaking suspicion the acoustic guitar was actually played by Guy not Jonny, similar to how he plays a neat little acoustic guitar riff in the We Found Love cover back in 2011/12 for Live Lounge acoustic.

Track 05 - Let Somebody Go | Coldplay X Selena Gomez | Music of the Spheres
Haha came here to say the same thing! While sad indeed that this didn't seem to continue the MOTS themes, this had cool visuals. Reminds me of the Up&Up video but not as memorable. 😛 Also what did everyone think of the Single version? The earlier drums, faster tempo, and slightly more guitar were interesting. ...not to be confused with the "Spotify Singles" version of LSG, which from I understood is a LIVE version that's been cleaned up for release on Spotify? That one sounds mega and might be my favourite version besides...the 1 other proper live version on James Corden.

Coldplay @Expo Dubai 2020
I did notice in Coloratura at the end of the third chorus there’s a big mistake, I would need to listen harder about who hits the wrong note between Chris Jonny or Guy, as well as the timing, but there’s definitely that and also Chris singing a wrong lyric while Will sings the correct one. This is the kind of stuff that doesn’t detract from enjoyment but proves the band is human and doing most things live. Everything else sounded too notch! Jonnys Coloratura solo was especially good.

🪐 Coldplay: Music of the Spheres 🪐 | Out Now! | Discussion
If you look at early AHFOD tour setlists it’s very much the same where nothing super interesting is going on. I have high hopes they’re just being a bit tentative in practicing the new songs. Also a lot of the gigs rap the radio ones have time limitations - none of the shows have had the full 1:30-2:00 length in which there can be more experimentation slots.

Infinity station session ep
Didn't notice till you pointed it out. I actually think it's the studio version until after the first "you're still waiting for that snow to fall." Maybe he massively cocked up the piano during the recording and they only realized after? Who knows. The piano is noticeably brighter and less precisely-played after that point. Everything else about this version is very good though! Will has some good singing that's mixed very well, Jonny's guitar really shines during the instrumental break in the 2nd half!

Music of The Spheres World Tour Setlist Predictions
I think it'll be 85% the same every night, and I'm guessing once the full tour begins it'll be like: MOTS>Higher Power Humankind Clocks Fix You VLV The Scientist Yellow AOAL Rotating fan-favourite but not a famous single like Everything's Not Lost, GPASUYF, B-stage Human Heart Magic Acoustic song, slightly more obscure - UATW, TKC, acoustic version of Speed of Sound, acoustic LIJ Biutyful Mainstage Infinity Sign (started on the B stage with an ole-chant, then transitioning to mainstage) POTP Paradise My Universe ASFOS Coloratura What would I *like* to hear? Most of MX it turns out... Up&Up Hurts Like Heaven Moving to Mars UATW UWTB What do I think we might NOT hear (at least regularly)? Let Somebody Go...I would be very pleasantly surprised if they started performing this regularly where Chris and Will duet (similar to some performances of HFTW). Anything from X&Y ? We should give them credit though - 50% of the time in the AHFOD tour, the requests were REALLY INTERESTING songs like AROBTTH, Swallowed in the Sea, etc. They also played See You Soon SEVERAL times, the first since perhaps 2003. Also Amsterdam on that tour! On the MX tour they were regularly playing Life is For Living for quite a bit.

Music of the Spheres World Tour Stage Setup
Out of curiosity where are you seeing them? The Chicago venue is Soldier Field, a stadium venue.

Track 08 - Biutyful | Music of the Spheres
I'm conflicted! I actually really like the high-slidey part of Angel Moon's voice, ie the bit that shows up in the Overtura preview. I don't quite like the voice in the verses...it just sounds like a chipmunk when they could've invited a female singer or had one of Chris's children sing it. The overall instrumental is quite interesting, with a lot of electronic/backwards sounding stuff. But it's not electronic for the sake of seeming poppy (like ASFOS or SJLT) which is sort of how you know they DID think about this track intentionally.

Music of the Spheres World Tour Stage Setup
I'm curious too - I bought Chicago tickets and it'll be my first show! On first glance based on the Seattle show, seems similar to AHFOD tour with a mainstage and then an extension stage into the middle?

🪐 Coldplay: Music of the Spheres 🪐 | Out Now! | Discussion
I’ve arrived to back you up. I feel completely the same about MOTS. When Coloratura came out, it really did feel like the happy ending to a story we hadn’t been told yet, one where there was a big space war with some people dying but ultimately togetherness wins. Instead, most of the songs have an opportunity to advance the plot but don’t. Yes, People of the Pride established the existence of a villain. But Higher Power is just like “something is vaguely bad and I don’t feel good but I like you!” Humankind is somewhat about humans being good. LSG is about missing someone. HH is mostly about gender roles and Biutyful is also rather vague. MU is “something is preventing us from being together but let’s do it anyways”. I love most or all of the songs on the album and they do have space related lyrics but they really don’t paint any kind of plot or picture. Further, I would argue MX has more plot in its little finger than MOTS. HLH and Charlie Brown, and to some extent Paradise accomplish a surprising amount of world building. There’s references to graffiti on the bridge in the park, stealing a car and the lost boys. In HLH it’s all about running around nervous because you’re doing something you’re not supposed to be doing but the streets are ours. The girl in Paradise. In UATW and ETIAW there’s a clear sense of togetherness against political oppression. MM through UIF describe a villain and getting defeated. AHT/DLIBYH and UWTB are about feeling okay despite the crappy happenings of chapter 2. It’s not that MX had a fully fleshed out linear storyline but I really do think the lyrics and music communicate so much more! Even VLV and X&Y have a bit more of a journey.
