Coldplay & Cat Power - movie soundtrack for Wish I Was Here
I think if this article is correct, and I hope it is, then crediting Coldplay as playing the song implies the whole band is featured, no? Even if Chris is the only listed writer. (Otherwise it'd be Cat Power ft. Chris Martin in the vein of Kanye West ft. Chris Martin or such).

A Sky Full Of Stars - Music Video
^At least the band themselves don't sound like they're going to launch a giant lawsuit... :) I enjoyed the video but I don't think it's a masterpiece the way The Scientist, Strawberry Swing, Life in Technicolor ii, or Paradise nor of the generally high quality of Lovers in Japan, Midnight, Magic, and ETIAW. For me it's about on the level of Yellow or Fix You - marginally unique but not wildly enjoyable like some other Coldplay videos. I think the video was trying to be charming but wasn't charming enough - there isn't enough ridicule from the one-man-band implements (they could've done this video without that stuff and it'd feel the same), and there isn't enough oozing joy or swagger from Guy/Jonny in that one walking scene. The TVs look like they're playing something similar to the GS TV Special but here's to hoping there's a second video of a more epic nature - I would've enjoyed something like the Target video because I think that's what ASFOS is about - getting lifted up. This video instead would've made more sense for a song like Ink perhaps.

[18-June-2014] Exclusive Gig at the 50th Max Sessions, Sydney, Australia
Link is broken for me right now. :(

The World Turns Upside Down live
Kind of like Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground vs No More Keeping My Feet on the Ground. Completely different songs.

Intro riff to Always in my head?
Nice video mate!!!

Acoustic version of Lovers In Japan Tabs anyone?
^That link looks pretty close to it. It's in the key of D major unlike the original which is in G. I hear 2 acoustic guitars and a mandolin.

Should Coldplay use backing tracks?
I'm talking about the first bit of strings where Jonny is playing guitar. The strings are coming in as a backing track behind Jonny's guitar and I don't think Guy is playing the keyboard there. Though perhaps one of them triggers the sample. Just to be technical about it of course...this is the kind of backing track where I'm on the fence. It's just kind of an embellishment to Jonny's playing. Ooh I do like that bit too. :) More energy and audience interaction, one could argue. Though personally I'm a huge fan of Chris's guitar dancing and piano-humping. [video=youtube;nn096G5jek0] This is the one video I could find where you can genuinely hear Guy's voice and indeed he sounds great. I wasn't convinced that voices were on backing tracks until the Charlie Brown-stopping at this show: [video=youtube;kzENxPtyoT0]

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
They should just use The Benedict Cumberbatch Name Generator. Or perhaps a re-geared one that generates MX-like names.

Should Coldplay use backing tracks?
Ghost Stories has honestly made me feel worse about the backing tracks for a few reasons: -The silly ghost piano in Magic and ASFOS -The vocoder in Midnight is just a backing track of vocals -The synth riff in True Love that Jonny should play but doesn't play until the end -Every single song on the album has a backing track. Even Fly On - there's a sound that happens when Chris sings the "oooooooohhh" that unisons with the ooooohhh melody. I'm pretty sure none of the live instruments are making that happen. Even Oceans - the strings after the first chorus. -In a few videos, you can see Jonny miming the acoustic guitar part in ASFOS. -Abundant synth and guitars on backing tracks in ASFOS (yes, Jonny is playing live, but there's other stuff happening on top of it) The more I watch videos of the band playing things live, the more it seems improbable that there's some kind of "play then loop" thing because a lot of these parts aren't designed to be loopable - such as Lost (like, what happens once you get to the chorus?) or ASFOS (you can actually see Guy stop playing the piano a few seconds before the loud part in order to get the bass ready). I'll admit the stuff in Midnight (flute solo thing) and Another's Arms (vocal sample, vrooooo noises) are pretty cool and I can see why some of that can't be replicated perfectly without some backing tracks, but otherwise I see this album as a step further into very-reliant-on-backing-tracks land. Which is indeed an interesting direction to head and I hope the boys take a break from it at least for one album's worth of songs.

Mose's Tabs Continued (Complete Us Against the World Tab inside)
Bass to Fly On right here mate: Fly On (bass)- Coldplay Time signature: triplets nested inside an 8/8 time signature. For bass you really only need to worry about “3-3-2” (the same rhythm as Clocks). To get really serious about this, the following line of tab shows on the top row, the accents in Chris’s piano part in large X’s, and on the bottom row, the bass part. Hence, at the macro level, the easiest way to count is to count up to 8 or 3-3-2. [Note that Chris’s piano part is accented as three groups of 4 eighth notes and a quartet of eighth notes so that it goes 3-3-3-3-4, or you can think of it as two 6/8 bars followed by a 4/8 bar.] So all this is to say, the rhythm/time signature in this song is really complicated in a fascinatingly simple way. But since we’re worried about bass for now, just pretend it’s 3-3-2. ;) G|X---x----x---X----x---x----X---x----x---X----x---x----X---x----x---x---| D|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------| A|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------|--------| E|B--------------------------B--------------------------B----------------| Guy comes in at the end of the first chorus of course on a pickup (I added a few lyrics for reference): Flyyyyyyy F Bb/D G|---------------------------------------|---------------------------------------| D|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----| A|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|5---|----| E|---------------------------------------|---------------------------------------| ooon Eb6/9 Eb6/9 Bb/D G|---------------------------------------|---------------------------------------| D|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----| A|6---|----|----|6---|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----| E|---------------------------------------|---------------------------------------| 2nd Verse – these two lines twice Flock of birds… Into smoke turned Eb6/9 Bb G|---------------------------------------|---------------------------------------| D|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----| A|6---|----|----|6---|----|----|----|----|5---|----|----|5---|----|----|5---|----| E|---------------------------------------|---------------------------------------| Still I Gm F Bb/D G|---------------------------------------|---------------------------------------| D|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----| A|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|5---|----| E|3--------------3--------------3--------|1--------------1-----------------------| 2nd Chorus aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal ways Eb6/9 Bb/D G|---------------------------------------|---------------------------------------| D|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----| A|6---|----|----|6---|----|----|----|----|5---|----|----|5---|----|----|----|----| E|---------------------------------------|------------------------------5--------| Gm F Bb/D G|---------------------------------------|---------------------------------------| D|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----| A|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|----|5---|----| E|3--------------3--------------3--------|1--------------1-----------------------| a - Well I was already working on True Love, so no one do that. :p

Is Ghost Stories About Nutella?
SPOT ON. Maybe one day they'll make vanilla too. :D :D :D

Murder - Single Now Available on iTunes?
Veeeery interesting. Maybe it'll be like when they posted various songs on the front page of Coldplay.com in the leadup to Midnight's release. :p Or maybe it's just a weirdo mistake. :(

Is Ghost Stories About Nutella?
At 2:07 Chris sings, "Tie yourself to a marshmallow." [video=youtube;Kthbikn8Z7Q]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kthbikn8Z7Q I think he means this:

Is Ghost Stories About Nutella?
Has it occurred to anyone that Coldplay records their music in a location called The Bakery. Otherwise known as a nuthouse. Nice. :D Say, isn't that song called "The Nutty Scientist" to begin with?

Is Ghost Stories About Nutella?
Pour what, but nutella of course! [video=youtube;Vefht3Zlyj0]

Ghost Story
Agreeeeeeeeeeee. I think this song should have replaced Ink, and AYF for True Love. Would've made Ghost Stories PERFECT.

Songs Coldplay Has Never Played Live
Reign of Love has been played by Chris a couple times! [video=youtube;vXH0r7_ZG-c] [video=youtube;bjR1LPlr2ro] I believe Crests of Waves was soundchecked at Casino de Paris but hasn't been played ever. I'd love to hear the X&Y B-sides live, esp Things I Don't Understand. :D

Is Ghost Stories About Nutella?
You know now that I'm relistening to AIMH, I'm pretty sure Chris is singing, "you're always on my bread, you're always on my bread."

Is Ghost Stories About Nutella?
Under the surface, trying to break through.... (when Chris's knife gets stuck in the Nutella jar).

Chris Martin, Nile Rodgers and Avicii collaborating for a new song
It just occurred to me that Always in My Head has the same chord progression as Get Lucky but in a different key. :p I think this could be good though. Not sure whose name this will go out under but hopefully it'll be an LP7 thing with 9000 guitar solos and real drums.

Amsterdam Guitar Effects
This thread should probably be in the Instrument Room section by the way.

Is Ghost Stories About Nutella?
[video=youtube;Vwf5iRBbilM]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vwf5iRBbilM "Thanks to all of you who have stayed with us through thick and thin...please eat more chocolate and please listen more Coldplay." Clearly, Amsterdam is about the time the boys went to the Netherlands for legal marijuana and got some very aggressive Nutella-related munchies. The Nutella agenda has been in front of us this whole time! How jarring.
