  1. Cheers! That may actually take a few days due to 1. studying, 2. my confusion over the time signature in Fly On (it's either 6/8, or something much more complicated than 6/8 ). But it can be done. I'm on a bad path now, where I feel like I need to do the whole album jajaja.
  2. So much for "a few days." Screw studying more Coldplaying. :D Full lead guitar and bass tab to AIMH here. Pardon any mistakes - did it over the span of a couple hours today.
  3. Here's the lead guitar (and implicitly, the chords) and the bass guitar to Always in My Head. :) WARNING - the forum may resize some of these posts so the ideal thing is if you C+P what I've written into another text editor to view it without unnecessary line breaks. Also, if anyone wants me to do the drums on this song (well, an approximation of the beat since I've never done electronic drums) - let me know! Always In My Head - Coldplay This song is in 6/8; in case you’re not familiar with my tabs, I document 6/8 as having 2 fat beats composed of the 3 eighth notes. Jonny uses a delay for this riff, I believe it lasts for the duration of a dotted quarter note (one of the “fat beats” in this tab). That means the echo of each beat carries to the next. Cool right? I have documented the album version, but live, the top notes vary from performance to performance. The asterisks mark where I have heard, in my analysis of live performances, Jonny exchanging the B string note between a C (13th fret) and D (15th fret). This same 4 line unit gets repeated twice (once for the chorus, once for the instrumental). 4. Jonny uses an e-bow and probably small bit of distortion, delay, and reverb for the voooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sound. But the main thing is that you use an ebow. There's another electric guitar line playing eighth notes. Again, small bit of distortion, delay, and reverb will get you there. I think there may also be a phaser running which often gives a more watery texture to a line. Jonny uses a LOT of phaser on X&Y. It's most evident on the title track in the guitar interlude.
  5. Thanks for the reference mate!!! :) :) Indeed, my tab is 99% correct. 1% rubbish! [but seriously I slaved for hours over it so hopefully it's not piss]
  6. Open E on 6th fret indeed - the dead giveaway is that sometimes (in live performance) Chris strums the guitar without fretting anything. Which you can't do unless you have an open tuning.
  7. I'll give it a crack! Studying for the MCAT so it may take a few days though.
  8. MosesTheMarshmallow replied to Tash's topic in Coldplay
Indeed it is not and literally hasn't been even made presentable since Midnight's release exactly. Is it coming back???
  9. Jajajajaa omg  I had the exact same mishearing of this lyric every time I heard the song until I read the lyrics. Funny how our brains can do that..
  10. Do I have to install the sketchy plugins??
  11. Radiohead is indeed "better" for not using backing tracks but still sounding big and great live. Though to be fair, they do have a 5th member over Coldplay and Muse. Honestly I think Coldplay can just down-regulate the amount of backing tracks they use because honestly their music wouldn't get worse just because there are less strings in the background or something. And Muse needs to promote Morgan Nichols to a full-time 4th member. Well two takeaway points from my meandering paragraph: backing tracks occur when the amount of music is not proportional to the number of members on stage and Coldplay's music would sound fine without the backing tracks. But I don't think backing tracks means a group is "less talented". They just have different priorities. I think Muse has the most raw virtuosity in their playing style. Radiohead does a good job of experimentation and stuff too. And of course, Coldplay > Muse > Radiohead in audience connection and concert "fun" level. Also I think Coldplay is totally capable of experimenting and being "ambitious" musically even if they are not given credit for this. VLV (the song and the album) is very much evidence of this, as are certain individual tracks on MX and GS. And there are cases where minimalism and restraint do make the music better. Songs like Yellow and The Scientist come to mind there. Though some more virtuosity from Coldplay would be good - Hurts Like Heaven would be the best example.
  12. Yep. It doesn't make very sense at all...though I think it might have to do with the smaller venue thing. Though indeed they were working very hard in the Viva era to keep things shaken up with all the acoustic covers and stuff. MX I think they had to tighten things up because of how crazy the lightshows/props got perhaps. I indeed wish they'd go for longer though........they're 4 nice 30-somethings who don't seem to smoke or drink or do anything that should wear them out that much. :p Worth noting - LA had the same number of songs, just a higher density of "cool songs." http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/coldplay/2014/royce-hall-los-angeles-ca-23c0b073.html
  13. Made some music and the words are ALRIIIIIIIIIIIGHT.
  14. Indeed! I only know Wash Away because of an episode of Lost unfortunately. Will have to look into his stuff more though...
  15. Fantastic rendition - I think Chris is using the same guitar as he uses in Ink. Jonny's guitarwork is very cool too. Reminiscent of album version but fresh/new in other ways. :D Thanks for the link!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Said this on the last page but it got caught at the bottom so I'll shamelessly repost: Jonny uses a guitar slide to make the bird chirp noise by rubbing it on the strings above the pickups (as in the part of the guitar where you can't even finger notes), and Will using the ebow to make the more melodic guitar part (like in Amsterdam). I'm aware of how Jonny's doing it because the guitarist in my band does the bird noise thing in one of our songs. Not to get technical about it of course - I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates that they're working hard to make the atmosphere. I think that's my first time hearing O Part 2 "live." Cool stuff. Edit - I'm glad the radio is playing Atlas... :) ...in which Jonny uses both a slide and ebow at the same time. :D (nice picture jc90)
  17. Yeah LA had not only a longer set but a lot of great songs - Atlas, Don't Panic, A Whisper. Though Green Eyes' appearance is good. :) Yep yep! Though I believe it's Jonny using a guitar slide to make the bird chirp noise, and Will using the ebow to make the more melodic guitar part (like in Amsterdam). I'm aware of how Jonny's doing it because the guitarist in my band does the bird noise thing in one of our songs. 18. Jonny and Will both play guitar on that though (and Will sings). And Guy has a lot of bass. Quantitatively speaking, I think it's more participation than Oceans and UATW which have been setlist staples.
  19. When Jonny plays the riff in True Love it sounds kind of like the intro to Every Breath You Take by the Police. :D
  20. Wow even Chris is amazed. :D Also, Jonny's guitar atmospheric is really apparent on this stream...sounds quite cool!
  21. Ahhhh wow after having the NRJ site open for 10 minutes, I'm getting Green Eyes. Fantastic! Omg and what a great version of Green Eyes - I don't think they've ever played it this way, at least for not 10 years! (With bass and drums)
  22. Thanks jc90 but it already redirected to what looks like the NRJ player. It says it's playing Charlie Brown (?) but not actually giving me any sound.
  23. Nothing is happening on my stream...how do I make this work? [on a PC, Chrome / Firefox]
  24. Wow. I just listened to the bonus tracks and I would love love love to hear them live. I think both Ghost Story would be a fantastic opener.
