The para-para bit is better than the wa-wa-wa, I have to agree; although I think it would have been better if they just replaced it with one long Pa-a-a-a-radise

^^ Same here. Although, admittedly, I don't think the lyrics of Paradise are all that bad (better than the ones for ETiaW) but WHY in the WORLD are they singing wa-wa-wa and para-para-para all of a sudden?! :freak: What made them think it was a good idea? And yeah, Taameen, I just try not to think about it too much . . . the day after Paradise dropped I was actually sad all day because I was worried that the guys were becoming another one of "those" bands that release a few radio-friendly songs and then fade out after a few years. But hey, just listen to Moving to Mars or Major Minus and you'll feel better :nice: EDIT: HAI SARA!

I don't think so. He's gotten the idea into his head that any band I listen to must be whiney and annoying :blank: In fact, another of my guy friends came up to me today and said "Have you heard the new Coldplay album yet? I heard it's going to be even more annoying and whiney than usual." Gee. My friends are so awesome. :blank:

Up In Flames, DLIBYH on Friday? (--> no)
Hmm . . . a tough decision here. I think I'll watch the performance on Friday, and then let that be the only time I hear Up In Flames and DLIBYH until the album drops That way I don't die of curiosity and the songs aren't totally spoiled.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
So I was having a music discussion in Art today with a couple of my guy friends about how music on the radio today sucks. Somehow the discussion lead to Green Day / Linkin Park (my friend's two favorite bands) and he said that Green Day was the best and biggest band in the world. I kinda laughed at him and said, "You're kidding right? Green Day are alright, but the biggest band in the world right now is U2." And, I kid you not, my friend said, "Who's U2? Another crappy band like Coldplay?" . . . . . . Yes. You read that right. :blank: There are people alive today who do not know who U2 is (and who think that bands like them and Coldplay are overshadowed by Green Day and Linkin Park).

. . . so I guess you guys like Paradise? :curtain: I mean, it isn't bad (except for the, um, chorus, which . . . I really don't like at all .__. ) but I'm kinda worried about the direction they're taking . . . Major Minus and MtM are the only songs that have really 'wowed' me in the new era. I don't know, maybe I'm just worrying over nothing  I hope the rest of MX can give me that 'wow' factor.

Why I am not giving up on Coldplay, yet.
That was a very well-written article--I wholeheartedly agree with everything that was said. I think it's true that some of us set our expectations a little too high for Paradise--I mean, the second singles are always Coldplay's best, are they not? (see "Yellow", "The Scientist" "Fix You", "Viva la Vida" [no, not the best single necessarily, but look at its chart positions]). It would be ludicrous for fans to 'give up on Coldplay' after just two songs--especially when taking into consideration that they are an album band in the truest sense. I really don't think that fans are 'giving up' per se, but are rather voicing their disappointment and worries a bit more than usual. I know I haven't given up on Coldplay yet (and even if Mylo Xyloto is their worst album by a mile, I'm going to stay confident that their next effort will be better); and unless their next three or four albums are complete and utter flops (which won't happen IMO) my confidence will remain. Also . . . Paradise wasn't bad necessarily: the lyrics are fairly decent overall (perhaps not for what we've come to expect from Coldplay, but alright nonetheless). But I think it's the lack-luster chorus and synth overload that killed it. The song was great until the chorus.

Can you hate ETIAW and Paradise but still like the album?
Well, the first time I'll definitely be listening to it all the way through--concept albums are intended to be listened to as a story to be read, no? But after that I might consider skipping Paradise and ETiaW
-
Will ETIAW be different on the album?
ColdplayingfromKansas replied to samerater's topic in Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall (Single, EP & video)Well, I wouldn't mind them keeping the same version of Major Minus, but I agree that ETiaW could stand to be tweaked. I doubt this is going to happen, though.

A Couple Months Later...
I've never really been 'against' the vocals. I disliked them a bit at first, but now I find that they seem to fit--plus Major Minus is just an awesome song. :wacky: Osaka Sun, I have to say that I agree with your signature 100%

Female vocal? ** UPDATED - It's Rihanna **
Yes, but at least Chris can sing, and even better write despite what some people might think. I've not heard a redeeming quality in any of Rihanna's songs. At this point, I'm hoping she features on the 'lalala' bits and that's all. I'm already feeling a bit depressed that when I turn over MX it will say 'Princess of China (feat. Rihanna)'

^ But Lost! was on the album without Jay-Z, that was just on the EP. And, although I despise rappers, at least what he was rapping wasn't horrible. Although Lost! is 123098512 times better (and I think it's the 'weakest' song on Viva). I honestly don't mind Coldplay collaborating with people as long as those other people STAY OFF MY COLDPLAY ALBUM. b-sides are fine, remixes: go ahead, bonus tracks are just great, EP's whatever you want. But I feel that Coldplay albums need to feature Coldplay and only Coldplay.
