  1. Coldplay and Apple are my two favorite things in the world! Yessssss. When Chris performed at that keynote (I watched it live) I stayed to listen even though I was late for class! Worth it.

Huh...there's M's in there too? I can't see any. That's pretty cool! I'm glad this album will have a concrete theme like Viva did. I really liked that.

You know what's interesting to me? I noticed that the old butterfly-shaped confetti has changed to an X-shape. Forgive me if someone else has already seen this. For example, this is Viva-era confetti: This is the new confetti: It's clearly an X-shape. Did they just get lazy or is this an important part of LP5? I'm thinking that "Xylobrytes" (sp?) word is pretty important! But maybe what I'm saying is a stretch. I dunno.
  4. AHHH I HATE COLDPLAY U2 COMPARISONS! But anyway, yeah! AWESOME guitar work. I also hope to hear more world-type music like on Viva. Which is why we need an HQ version of Princess of China. Which sounded awesome.
  5. I mean this time around we have "My scarecrow dreams When they smashed my heart into smithereens I be a bright red rose come bursting the concrete Be the cartoon heart" And last album we had such brilliant material as "You might be a big fish In a little pond Doesn’t mean you’ve won ‘Cause a long may come A bigger one" Neither is going to be published in a book of poetry, but it's about the song. "Lost!" Is an AWESOME song, but looking at the lyrics on paper isn't exactly a mind-blowing experience. It's about the whole package. Just wait for something with a clear sound with production value and readdress it then :)
  6. I agree. I'm getting really tired of people berating the band over one 4-minute release that they don't like. But your britches back on (or change them if they've been soiled) and wait for the next release/LP5. Then judge away. Coldplay, like a normal human being, will grow and evolve. Viva was a pretty big step, and when I heard "Violet Hill," I was disappointed. But I heard the rest of the album and loved it. Bottom line: If you hate the new Coldplay (and judged them this early in the post-Viva era), cool! But I don't. And constantly berating them (via the internet, a poor medium) isn't going to change my mind.
  7. Oh my God. Your opinion made me change my mind and now I hate the song. Was THIS your purpose? LET US TROLL THESE FORUMS AND SHOW OTHERS THE LIGHT. Thank you for showing me the way, and how to be a "Core Coldplay fan." ...ass
  8. I mean they are a professional band so they will play on occasion during the off-season or whatever. But it is a seasonal type of thing. Look at the concerts: Gatecount, number of concerts, revenue, etc. Compared between seasons, that is. I'm just saying that it would make more fiscal sense to do so in July/August than in October. I'm sure a new single will be released by the end of July at least, so I agree with you in that respect. I'm not going to buy into the July 1 thing for LP5. I mean, if that's true, where's the media?
  9. I'm not really saying that they'll be doing it just for consistency's sake. I'm saying they'll do it to maximize profitability. EMI are the worst risk-takers ever. And they know that. Remember with Viva so much of their well-being as a company depended on that release? I really doubt they'd gamble on this one.
  10. Okay, so I think that makes sense and I've been thinking that the album CAN'T have a fall release. Here's why. Sorry, I keep returning to this thread. I'm just so antsy (it's 4am here...no idea why I'm awake). Anyway, let's look at the release dates and sales figures for the previous albums. Parachutes: 10 July 2000 (6,500 copies sold, but their debut so ignore this) Rush of Blood: 26 August 2002 (273924 copies sold) X&Y: 6 June 2005 (~737,000 copies sold) :stunned: Viva: 11 June 2008 (720,000 copies sold) :stunned: cite: Billboard info. This is US billboard info, but the US is a good way to measure this stuff due to size and diversity: sampling stuff. Note: Coldplay was pretty damn big before Rush of Blood. I was like 10 years old and I couldn't get "Yellow" out of my head. So I think figures are pretty accurate to compare from RoB and onward. RoB was released the latest, yet sold almost 1/3 the amount that X&Y did, despite having a more successful debut single. Coldplay are inherently a SUMMER band, plain and simple. They're more successful this time of year. My favorite band: But I can't picture myself sitting around and avidly listening to it in the dead cold of winter. I felt so strange when anxiously awaiting "Christmas Lights" in flippin' December. Just like Dave Matthews Band. They don't play in the winter, neither does Coldplay, generally. Why would Coldplay release an album at the beginning of this dry spell of profitability? You'd better believe this album has a carefully-calculated release date to maximize profit. EMI is HUGE and knows how to market stuff. Cite: Release dates/sales for previous albums. I've always been skeptical of the Fall release because I simply don't think it would be profitable or make any type of fiscal sense. Other bands that fill stadiums don't release albums in the winter or fall. It makes no sense. Assuming their current formula is successful (which it is), Coldplay will release LP5 before the trees turn. No doubt. I don't know if this means July or August (maybe early September: doubt it though), but I'm sure it will work out this way. EMI still has Coldplay by the balls and they know how this stuff is manipulated. While I don't think it will be released July 1, it should be released by freaking September. For real. I think a radio station isn't a very good source of info, but I do like the optimism :)
  11. Let's overthrow the Oracle. This is clearly the only solution.
  12. If it turns out to be true, I WILL poop my pants.
  13. It may not be so far away after all. But it probably is. Check it out: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=77209
  14. I speak some German. All it says is that it will be "commercially available in July," I believe. Which anyway is good news, but coming from a radio station in Germany it's not super reliable. Do we have any real German speakers out there? I just took a few German classes. Hopefully it's true though! Upon Googling every variation of "Coldplay July 1" all I really found was this thread of Coldplaying and the original source. Where do you get July 1 from?
  15. That would be awesome! But unlikely. I think August/September would be more realistic. I know Radiohead does that kind of "OMG OUR ALBUM IS OUT FRIDAY EVEN THOUGH WE'VE BEEN MIA FOR 5 YEARS" a la "King of Limbs" but that's because they're on their own label and can do whatever the fuck they want. Coldplay's EMI sure as hell wouldn't let that fly, especially when Coldplay is such a huge act for them. They would demand a hell of a lot of promotion. Although I guess we can all dream... :thinking2:
  16. I know I know it's like the perfect opener.... Goodbye, Viva. :(
  17. I'm sure it will be all the same except "singing in the rain" because it's no longer topical :P Also, I really want them to play "Princess of China." That song sounded really innovative. Did I hear there won't be an HQ recording of this????? :embarrassed:
  18. So is that referring to the lyrics? I had a completely different interpretation, but yours sounds more plausible. Thanks!
  19. Don't Lick It Between Your Hips
  20. ^Yeah, they used Twisted Logic. Sorry. I love my Coldplay puns.
  21. ^Well let's hope that "Major Minus" isn't a major minus!
  22. So I guess it could be like a "BIG minus." Like something that totally sucks. I've been thinking about it for a long time and I just want it to make sense!
  23. So I'm wondering, since we seem to think this is going to be the title track and everything: What does "Major Minus" mean as a title? Am I missing something here? It sounds kind of like a constellation of some kind, and that's what I think of when I hear it. But seeing their jackets that said "Major Minus Media..." I don't know. Any thoughts? It makes no sense to me and it's been driving me up a wall! :shocked2:
  24. For some reason I really dislike "Hurts Like Heaven." It just seemed very...cluttered. I don't know. It will probably grow on me. I love "Charlie Brown (Cartoon Heart)" and "Major Minus" (Which is definitely the title track, by the way). They both take on a Viva-type production with a AROBTTH type of core. It will be interesting to hear studio versions. One thing I'd like to hear from you guys: There's a fantastic song they played in Central America. "Don Quixote/Spanish Rain." Is there ever going to be a studio version of that? Because I love it. Also, I read earlier in this thread that there will be no studio version of "Wedding Bells." Because some of the lyrics were used in "Christmas Lights." I'm HOPING we get to hear it on the new album. Think about it: The lyrics "Now my feet won't touch the ground..." were used as a motif all throughout the Viva era. I love Wedding Bells and if Christmas Lights (atrocious...) took a studio version from me I'll choke a bitch.
