LP5 World Tour 2011 / 2012 (rumoured European tour schedule pg.3)
Since when do Coldplay do stadium tours? Where did you get this information, or is this just speculation? I don't want them to go all U2... :inquisitive:

Portishead's Geoff Barrow: 'Coldplay's fireworks ruin festivals'
If you had actually watched the performance you would know that she sang facing the audience. She turned her back only in between songs. Because she's shy or not used to a grumpy bunch of Coldplay fans. This, and the rest of you post, is bullshit. I have to accuse Coldplay fans who think Portishead suck of being immature and narrow-minded. You don't have to like the style, but you have to show some respect (this also accounts for Geoff). Myself, I thought Portishead was beautiful, but a bit boring at Werchter (I was there), but that's just my opinion. Also, there was a nice visual show near the end of their performance.

Golden Arrow Theory
Not to forget "No More Keeping My Feet On The Ground" from back in 1998 which is cool and if I didn't know it was a Coldplay song or didn't recognise Chris' voice, if anyone told me it was a song by The Verve, I'd believe them. But I don't think there will be a song called Cartoon Heart. Cartoons, especially "Cartoon Hearts" are a theme that seems too narrow to write multiple songs about, if you ask me.

Portishead's Geoff Barrow: 'Coldplay's fireworks ruin festivals'
That's odd, as I remember seeing videos on YouTube of Oasis and Coldplay performing Yellow and Live Forever together. Aren't they friends? I think I read Noel and Chris are. Maybe that's what's bothering Liam.

Chris should make a solo album?
This. And not Coldplay -> Chris Martin, as most media wrongly assume.

Why am I not liking this?
Twisted Logic is fucking great and A Whisper is even tenfold better. Both way underrated. But that's just my opinion. I'm not sure about A Spell A Rebel Yell, it's weird, but I appreciate that they try it and release it as a b-side to see what people think. My conclusion, which I have seen on one of the first pages in this thread, is that change can be good, and is even necessary, but not every change is necessarily good. You can't force yourself to like everything Coldplay release, even if some people say you have to love everything they do "to be a true fan". Bullshit. I also love how everyone is being so nice towards one another.

Golden Arrow Theory
Just because they both have birds in them doesn't mean they are related in any way. Up With The Birds was probably even written before Oasis split up. And can anyone tell me where Golden Arrow is coming from? Is it a new rumour?

Portishead's Geoff Barrow: 'Coldplay's fireworks ruin festivals'
Portishead are a great and revolutionary band in their own way. Both Fleet Foxes and Mumford and Sons are fantastic, especially Mumford is one of my favourite bands. Bruno Mars is talented I guess, but he's just a music industry whore. I don't like his music. I didn't even see or hear the fireworks at Werchter because I was too close to the stage. Nobody needed those fireworks. They are a waste of money IMO. Geoff is a dickhead Liam Gallagher-style. Ruins the integrity of his band. Beth Gibbons seems like a very nice person.

Chris should make a solo album?
Eww :shocked2::P

The Tracklisting
Has it occurred to anyone that 1000-1 (Ballad Of) is actually = Ballad of 1000-1. Not sure. Know what I mean? Anyway this is just a detail about a work title of one of the 1001 songs that might or might not make it on the album.

Chris should make a solo album?
His piano skills are marvellous, but... NO. I'm afraid he will make too much poppy shit without the others. And think about the lyrics, thanks to Guy and Will only the best lyrics can eventually make a Coldplay song. But I'm sure he would get away with it on his own. And I don't think Wedding Bells is good, tbh :stunned:

Hurts Like Heaven studio version effects
I had a dream about listening to the (leaked) studio version of Hurts Like Heaven, which I can now confirm will be track #1 on the next album. It didn't sound too good, just saying. I was foolish enough for not checking out the rest of the album before waking up. It was right there, I only had to click... Now really on topic, I'm guessing it might only be parts of the song. Dunno, let's wait for 3 months to find out. It will suck a bit if it's true.

Portishead's Geoff Barrow: 'Coldplay's fireworks ruin festivals'
Can you be more specific about "similar artists"? I'm just curious.

My concerns
Maybe the uniforms have a meaning. Maybe it's part of the overload they're ironically firing at us. Along with the light show. I don't know. Still don't like. One bad thing about Twisted Logic: the 50 something silent seconds at the end fuck up shuffles :p

Portishead's Geoff Barrow: 'Coldplay's fireworks ruin festivals'
This. I don't know a lot about them though. Saw them at Werchter.

Portishead's Geoff Barrow: 'Coldplay's fireworks ruin festivals'
They're a good band and more revolutionaly than Coldplay. It's difficult and it takes a little effort to like it though.

Portishead's Geoff Barrow: 'Coldplay's fireworks ruin festivals'
Coldplay would indeed be better if they just played their fucking songs without all the circus stuff. But Geoff seems like a dick indeed.

My concerns
Sorry for reviving this, I've been away for two weeks. :p I had to read the answers here. I agree with snippets, but a lot of you are missing my point. Of course it's fantastic that they change their sound and expand their soundscape, and that they surprise us in a good way. The thing is, what they've been releasing as singles for a couple of years (I'm referring to Viva (which is still great) and ETIAW) allows people to hate them for the wrong reasons. If people told me 10 years ago that Coldplay were boring, I would've thought that it was just their opinion, and I wouldn't have given a fuck. But if they told me today that they are a money-grabbing boys band, I would give a dozen fucks, because those people wouldn't know any better as they'd be deceived by the image Coldplay is giving themselves nowadays. An image I don't like. I'd be disappointed because they'd be missing out on the Coldplay I love. There's also people who say they love Coldplay. I'd think of these people as interesting, only to be disappointed to find out that they're the kind of people that only know a few singles and like Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias, All Time Low and Kesha (which shouldn't be that bad or say anything about their personality, but, you get my point). It would be better, in my opinion, if they were a bit more rebelling (I'm not trying to sound hipster) and for example have released Major Minus instead of ETIAW as a first single. I agree most with bellynelly: QFT. It's as if they want to change to a more boysband-like style because that attracts more people than an alternative band does. That's probably what they mean when they say they want to get better, in a utilitarist way (more popular = better). I'm not sure, but it would be sad, since I and many other loyal fans wouldn't be part of those people and there's quite enough artists out there who can please less mature preteens. Coldplay however really have the quality to change and still be a great alternative rock band. They also just give me the impression that a lot of their later work is a lot more superficial than their early work. A huge step backwards in that respect. Give me real, don't give me fake (luckily there are exceptions). Some notes: - I don't hate Fix You, I just don't like it. - The uniforms look ok, but again, it's the whole concept that bothers me. - Comparing Coldplay music to other Coldplay music is always comparing great to fantastic (obvious exceptions aside), so I do like X&Y, just not at all as much as AROBTTH for example. - Reign Of Love is beautiful but kind of boring  - I love Twisted Logic to the extent of wanting to start a Twisted Logic appreciation club or something like that :p - A Message is one of the best X&Y tracks. That all being said, I'm still a big Coldplay fan and I'm still excited about Mylo Xyloto or whatever LP5 will turn out to be named. I'm sure it won't be as good as their old stuff, and it can disappoint me, but I'm also sure there will be lots of stuff I will like, there will be something for everyone, if you know what I'm saying. I believe in most of what they do, at least they've kept their integrity. Well I'm glad this thread is done, and fucking hell, my posts always turn out to be way too long.

I THINK LP5 WILL BE CALLED 'MYLO XYLOTO'...
Sounds cool to me. But it doesn't remind me of the themes, like UFOs and grafitti and stuff. It sounds exotic. It reminds me of African traditional stuff/music, which I like. But that could be my biased Western mind.

My concerns
Thanks a lot people. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I think this will help. Some minor remarks: I sometimes feel like being ashamed for being a Coldplay fan because of the way most people think they are. If I say I like Coldplay nobody will get what I mean, they will think about the singles and the circus, and I will think they are right to some extent, because they won't know any better. I won't get a proper chance to make clear what I really mean, because they will not know what I'm talking about. On the contrary, if those people say they do like Coldplay, chances are higher that they only know 5 to 10 songs, and that they prefer Viva or whatever was the last thing they released. The only thing I can do then is introduce them to other Coldplay stuff, but since they wouldn't have looked for that themselves before, I think they wouldn't really like it anyway and my efforts would be worthless. And I do like the clothes, the way they look, but not the concept of having specially designed clothing and all that, if you know what I mean. And I do like X&Y. And some things I like about Fix You: the typical Chris Martin dance (though it doesn't compare to Chris playing an instrument and concentrating on the song, you know) and Jonny, always Jonny.

My concerns
You don't have to read this, just want to get this off my chest and perhaps some feedback. I'm having a terrible love-hate relationship with Coldplay. I am concerned about that. I'm even thinking about it too much, now that school is out and I have too much time. The Coldplay I love: When I listen to Parachutes or A Rush or watch Live 2003, I know I love Coldplay. They're just perfect there, great music, humble folks, serious guys with a good sense of humour, stripped down, still rocking, skillful, balanced, concentrated, intelligent, able to make you shiver in goosebumps. The way they did Politik for example has never been matched. I wish that I was born earlier, that I went to a Coldplay concert in 2002/3, only knowing about their two albums, and having the best evening of my life. I saw them this weekend, and I failed to get the feeling I got when I watched Live 2003 for the first time. The Coldplay I don't like: After A Rush, the exaggerated cheesiness of Fix You: with the constant falsetto, plain cheesy lyrics, church organ that makes me feel a little unwell sometimes, it feels as if they lost their touch to write mellow ballads without too much cheese (like The Scientist) (still loved by many people though, no offense then). They evolved towards too big stadium rock and anthems like Viva La Vida. Stadium Rock that's all about "big" and less about "beautifully rocking". Next to that, the fuckloads of money they want to receive for playing a set doesn't quite match the Fair Trade they stand for (glad they give 10% to charity though). The special costumes they've been wearing during the Viva Tour and now this tour, the way they're being special with their painted instruments, exaggerated cryptic announcements like the one for ETIAW, ETIAW itself, in which I don't recognise the Coldplay I love at all, etc. Now don't get me wrong, I still love a lot of their newer songs (Major Minus Live(!!!)) and Viva is a great album. But this commercial, stadium rock, cheesy, plain teengirl lyrics Coldplay is the Coldplay most people know. People hate Coldplay because of that. They don't like what they see/hear and they don't dig further into Coldplay. Therefore they never discover the Coldplay buried underneath, the Coldplay I love so much. This all means that I'm terrified to declare myself as a Coldplay fan. Most people wouldn't understand what I mean when I say Coldplay. That way, I'm even a bit ashamed for being a Coldplay fan... What should I do then? How do you think about what I've written here? Are there people with similar thoughts? Shouldn't I worry about it too much? Am I being a whiner (most definitely yes)?

coldplay vs radiohead
Arrogant is not the right word. It's just a discussion that has been done a lot of times before. Without result. ^Yes, they copy Joe Satriani, they steal from Kraftwerk, Travis, U2, Arcade Fire, Muse and Elbow (they said it themselves!), and most of all, they are just Peter Allen under a different name.
