  1. @Editor42: Heb ik niet gezien... :o @hillman: Lucky lucky lucky! So close! Very nice quality vids! When I said Belgian media tore Coldplay apart (Humo said "99 problems but a bitch ain't one", right before the show, was the best part of the show. :s It was pretty awesome though :p) I forgot about De Morgen, which is and has always been a Coldplay-loving journal. I agree very much with everything they say, apart from ETIAW being a good set closer :p For those who understand some Dutch, + includes some pictures of the band (I mean Chris): http://www.demorgen.be/dm/nl/2595/Rock-Werchter/article/detail/1287235/2011/07/03/Coldplay-Back-to-basics.dhtml "Not bad for a band that asks little more money per gig than an average football player or a second-class actor."
  2. Nice review, thanks! I agree with almost everything you said. About the media, those people are exactly the same as the ones who praised Coldplay as the best band ever during the AROBTTH era. That's just their job. Well that's also one of the reasons I joined this forum, to talk to people who love Coldplay and actually know more about them than just 3 anthem songs.
  3. I think that was kind of disrespectful. Those guys were really trying their best in front of an impatient crowd that was waiting for Coldplay. I felt a bit of compassion. The genre was way different and they shouldn't have been on the Main Stage IMO.
  4. I think you're looking way too hard. There's nothing in that song except for the lyrics on their own. Nobody is getting rejected or anything. "Cathedrals in my heart" is just a cheesy Chris Martin line.
  5. Back from two days Werchter, and I oddly feel like I have to give a review of the Coldplay show that nobody will read. It was great, but since it's Coldplay and we're used to nothing less, I'm going to be a bit severe. :p This was the second time I saw the band, also the second gig at Werchter after the one in 2009. Coldplay only compares to Coldplay, so a comparison between the two concerts is inevitably made. I can't help thinking that they were better this time. Why would this be the case? Because Chris finally had a haircut? Possibly. Because I can't remember too much about their previous Werchter gig and because I was even closer to the stage this time (10th row)? Probably. Because they played their songs in a more concentrated, mature way? Definitely. Two years ago they gave us an incredible show with Chris jumping around and exploring every corner of the Werchter meadow, a show including acoustic intermezzos and fuckloads of confetti. Unfortunately this meant that the quality of the music, although I didn't realise at the moment, was lacking. This seemed to be caused by Chris' carelessness, I may be wrong. Now they're back the way I like it most, playing the songs like they mean it. Confettis, light effects and lasers added a bunch (way too much actually) to the show, but everything was centered around the music. Politik is a good example to show the difference between this Coldplay and the one of the Viva era: not as good as in the Live 2003 DVD, but at least capable of inducing goosebumps. I wish I hadn't watched the previous shows of this tour too much. I knew what was coming and it all felt oddly familiar and they didn't blow me away like they did in 2009 when I wasn't too prepared. Nevertheless, it was evidently (one of) the absolute top gig(s) of the festival and a perfect festival closer for me. The greatest moment for me was Shiver. Performed brilliantly, and I sang along from beginning to end. I hope my weak singing skills didn't disturb anyone. :p The Scientist was an amazing singalong experience, but it wasn't nearly as unforgettable as it was two years ago, when it was in the encore. Although one of the best songs in the set, I also expected more from Everything's Not Lost, possibly because the rest of the crowd wasn't too much into it, compared to Viva La Vida for example. The latter, along with Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall, seemed an unavoidable cause for a cheap festival party, although the show would've been great even without those. Out of all the new songs, even though I like Major Minus most, this time I was more impressed by Charlie Brown. It was loud, it was awesome, it rocked. My opinion: *** (out of 5, Coldplay scale, the standards are ridiculously high. Five stars would be Live 2003 and/or Glastonbury 2002) Meanwhile, the band and their show is being torn apart by Belgian media. I can even understand their point at some level: maybe too arty-farty, and 1,2 million euros is a price so high that it makes their fair trade activism almost seem like Bono-esque hypocracy. That being said, I still love most of what Coldplay do and the media are there to break down everything that is too popular anyway.
  6. It's Chris Martin's voice sped up (and maybe reversed, I'm not sure about this). The Oracle answered this question last week I think.
  7. I do, but it's rather hot so it would be dangerous. I'll leave it at home.
  8. 1. Major Minus (Live) 2. Hurts like Heaven or Charlie Brown 4. Us Against the World or Moving To Mars ?. Princess of China (...) 1337. Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall An official Coldplay poll on Facebook says that Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall is way ahead of the other two songs on the EP (ETIAW 2722, MM 334, MTM 442). I don't understand. Our polls had way different results.
  9. I can confirm that you're right. I saw it on the Coldplaying forum.
  10. I will leave for Werchter tomorrow. I'm not sure if I will make it to the front line for Coldplay, but I'll try to be as close as I can. Two years ago I'm sure they didn't clear, but I won't be really surprised if they do it now. It won't be the first time they change. I think two years ago was the first time we had to queue up to get close to the stage, in an enclosed zone. See you there, but probably not. There is no particular way you will recognise me. :p
  11. 35 euros, what a very cheap price for a white shirt with the title of a bad song on it.
  12. Unlikely as it may seem since my opinion doesn't match yours, I do. The video on its own, I mean, the song on its own is also simply beautiful (I'm talking about Strawberry Swing here). About the way the two don't fit together, you may have a point there.
  13. The video is okay, very Coldplayish. Seems like they're ripping off the Strawberry Swing video a bit. And I'm sorry, but Strawberry Swing had one of the best videos of ALL TIME. But then again, I don't really care for music videos, it's for "MTV people". The music is the only thing that should be good here and it's not in the case of ETIAW.
  14. Yeah thanks, you enjoy the show too. Is it right that it will be the first time ever they will play in Poland?
  15. BUT THEY CAN'T TOUCH YOU NO CAUSE THEY'RE JUST SPIES HAPPY CAPS LOCK DAY EVERYONE
  16. Can anyone show or describe what the shirts of this tour look like? Maybe I'll buy one.
  17. Awesome they're doing Everything's Not Lost again! Anyone know what they played before that? Any surprises?
  18. I get what you mean. I will see them live this Saturday and I can only imagine being amazed until at the end ETIAW is played. I'll probably think "what the fff..." to say it with Chris' own words, but who knows I may enjoy it.
  19. The only thing that would make this better (I saw it on TV and think it was epic, can't see the videos though) is minus ETIAW and plus Spies/AROBTTH. I still think ETIAW is a terrible closer, and it just doesn't fit with Coldplay and the other songs. But I'm just a whiny little bitch. And Clocks should really be played in the full version, not the cut, that would be a lot better (Twisted Logic version was also full, so that would be cool). Everything's not lost and Shiver are simply great. I also like how they've got Politik back the way it should be, even better than before. If you see this video from when I saw them at Werchter in 2009, you'll know what I mean. 20. Has "If you can tell me something worth fighting for" been claimed yet? I'll claim it next month.
  21. I share your fears, partly. But I trust what they're doing.
  22. Studio version is growing on me. I'll turn my (overall) 7 into an 8. Live (Rock am Ring) is still a good 9, studio it's 6-7, still could have been a lot better. But Coldplay is always better live, so...
