Agree!! (except bonus tracks) It's no complex song, but this is (one of) the type of music that I adore. Goosebumps with the first listen. Very pure and honest. incl the lyrics. I just played the song loud on my hifi system... it's absolutely gorgeous, Cat Powers voice is fantastic (didn't know her). Now Im imagening Chris Martins voice singing it.. sigh.. And finally a colab that's not with the most famous (rnb) singer or house producer on the planet! its a little Christmassy don't you think? The piano reminds me of 2000 miles. :)

Agree.. mostly! 'Interesting' is exactly the right word. GS lacks that. (Except midnight, I still find it interesting) Chris Martin is an unbelievable talent. He can so much better, if he wants to.

No idea why anyone wouldnt want more songs as brilliant as Amsterdam, warning sign, god put a smile, politik, or... square one, til kingdom come, low or... lovers in Japan, 42, yes or... don't panic, trouble, spies or... like their last brilliant bonus track ghost story. Rush 2.0, x&y 2.0? Fine with me! But actually I just would like to them to make an album with stronger, high quality music. Most tracks from gs are not up there. Ghost story being a very good example of being something in between rush and viva but still original. They prove they can do that :)

?errr.. i dont follow... Every single band/artist will/should go for computer electronic sounds or they will just vanish? So for example, Mumford&Sons who are huuugely popular (and many other folky bands), will too? -------- Anyway, I think it's good to be critical. And this long thread thats still active since the release shows something. Fans with dissapointment, dislike for songs/production yes true, but.. we're still here. Doesn't that mean coldplay has valuable loyal fans? :) Its all because of their history of brilliant music, that means so much to us, we can relate to. So if theres a new album that doesn't exactly do that, then of course we can be dissapointed because instead it couldve been another big favourite and very valuable album. We're hoping for this to happen, because it would mean so much and years and years of enjoying the music. Ghost stories to me is not another favourite like coldplays first 4 albums. Its not just the production, its the (not all) songs too. I don't have a problem with electronic production, I love midnight and I love the production in all your friends. But in songs like true love, ink and anothers arms I just can not feel them with that high sounding polished drumbeat, it doesnt compliment the songs. The songs themselves, melody's, I just do not find them really solid, they're kind of weak, lacking depth. Its strange, i have never found any coldplay song to be really whiny (first song i loved was fix you) but true love just feels so overly whiny/cheesy and kinda reminds me of a boyband ballad (listened to those many maany years ago). Sorry I cant help it! It just doesnt feel as honest and pure, as almost every other emotional song of coldplay does. Also, and this may sound silly, but when I start the cd, I have to turn the volume down, otherwise I will get like a shock (my eyes just twitch lol) from the first beat. Especially in the car, its annoying. With magic in my car, my dashboard starts to make sounds. My car is only 3 years old, but cant really handly those beats. And those 2 are laid back songs, no loud sky full of stars boom tracks. How and why did they produce them that way, I wonder... I listen the most to all your friends and ghost story, they both give me this coldplay thrill.. instant favourites. In those I find the quality that Im missing on a lot of ghost stories songs. Great songs, great music, great lyrics, singing, everything.

Yes, absolutely, well maybe not really loud punk rock, but anything more alternative. Looking online, I'm amazed that there are still so many 'old' fans, who still call themselves a fan while they only like (love!) the first 2 albums. Those 2 albums are so memorable and just very special to a lot of people.. Coldplay seems to not really realise what it would mean, what effect it would have. So they should start listening to fans. I believe most people want them to make (soft) rock music again. They are a band and Ghost stories doesn't really represent that with many of the tracks. Isn't it strange.. during the Viva period.. I could not imagen myself wishing that Coldplay should put more instruments in their music.

Anything less commercial.. jazz, folk, country yes why not.. Instruments instruments instruments... organic, pure, raw, real sounds.. An album that shows that they still know they're a (soft) rock band. An album thats not just created with these enormous stadium concerts in mind. And please no more collaborations with rnb or trance artists...

Well said! Agree completely. Such exciting music, just makes you realise what they still can do (and I think all your friends shows that too). It seems that a lot of people won't hear ghost story because they dont know about the bonus tracks.. that's a real shame. But anyway, do you believe that they will go this direction, for their next album?

If ghost story and all your friends is their new heading, then it is possible. But its about decision.. These songs show they can do, but is it what they want.. I say: Coldplay you really now HAVE to. The time has come! * although I have to say: another album as good as Rush hmm: not sure if that would ever be possible. That album is unbelievable brilliant.

Country? Haha nooo its not country. Even though I like music thats a bit country. Gives music such a warm sound. Everything is great about this song. How it starts and then boom that guitar, drums: actual muuusic! Finally! And its very coldplay. The enthusiasm/vibrance of the viva album, but also the beauty of the Rush album. I really love this. This is exactly the right combination. Its so uplifting, but so good as well. Really really hope this is where they are going.

Thats well said. I feel the same. After 4 albums which I all love from start to finish, I couldnt imagen this band ever dissapointing me. Most of the music since MX is just so much more simple and many songs are not as interesting. There are nice songs there, but not that many great ones. Almost all songs on the first 4 albums are brilliant to me. What happened.. Does Chris martin really want to sound like rihanna, one direction and the rest? Im not against the use of electronic music and I like other bands like bombay bicycle club for instance. They are just so very good at it. They created their sound with it. Coldplay should stick to real instruments. I really dont know how you anyone can feel this album is better than parachutes. Really..? Better than spies, trouble, yellow, dont panic.. those songs are the real magic to me. (I do find oceans and O to be near that quality) But they really need to become more alternative, more rawness, real instruments. Which makes them a real band.
