1. PM Easysuperstition99 - iirc the OP can change the title? Otherwise PM a mod
2. Elvis Presley
3. Thanks for sharing... I'm glad for you (and I'm sure Coldplay would feel proud) that you have felt inspired by music, to want to make music yourself. Good luck! I'll be keeping an ear out ;)
4. Star Wars VII - as a non-fan (did not like it as a child; only recently started to appreciate the OT more as an adult), I was impressed! It exceeded expectations, 8/10! Good production values, good story (although does borrow significantly from OT) and solid acting. It actually was better than the teasers from the trailers :) Other recent movies: - Joy (J-Law + David O'Russell et al) - a touching, well-made movie about a person overcoming improbable odds to succeed with her Wonder-Mop invention - makes everybody's family feel normal :P I rate 8.5-9/10 - it's slightly less of a revelation than Silver Lining's Playbook but has a great performance from all involved, again. - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 - A good solid ending to the series of movies (slight deviation from the books, but no surprises there :P). As Haruka said, the closing scenes could've been done better, but otherwise, pretty good - 7.5/10 Btw @Archiderp - that's an awesome Darth Vader drawing! :dazzled:
5. ZZ Top's First Album (yes guys, it is actually called this :P ) - ZZ Top EDIT: Dang, forgot Zooropa from U2
6. Mmm, good one! VLVODAAHF- we all know who lol :laugh3:
7. With Jonny and his riffs, someone has forgotten HLH, ETIAW, Major Minus... He + his magical riffs is the main reason why I say MX is my favourite Coldplay album
8. I am not agreeing or disagreeing, but would like to point out two aspects, one of which is my opinion: - the rest of the band have grown as musicians, even CM himself... Their level of musicianship and confidence is miles ahead compared to previously.. Not surprising in itself, but this shouldn't take away from the fact that they are now more capable musicians than before - has anyone else thought that the current direction is quite possibly the result of Chris Martin stepping back a notch, to allow the rest of the band more room to make contributions? In doing this, they have changed their old formula somewhat - previous Oldplay songs (particularly their earliest works) were mainly based off Chris + guitar / piano writing his song, then the rest plugging in their parts; whereas now everyone has more equal contribution and the songs often take a different direction / is driven by one of the others - however unfortunately the 'magic' from CM is no longer as abundant due to this... This could also be related to him curbing some of those perfectionist/ neurotic tendencies as well. This is where it becomes my opinion- idk whether CM is burnt out or whether there has been a conscious decision to step back a bit so that there is more room for the others - it could possibly be both. But I think the whole band accepts that they are still learning and growing (without actually explicitly saying it) to fill that void left by Chris stepping back a bit, that's why everyone seems happy with the progress they have made even though the quality lately is less even in quality than previously. Critics of course don't care as they only look at the output, not the process / inner workings of the band, but for me, I personally think it is healthy that they are exploring different roles and that the rest of the band is taking on more. As for the future, they can either return to their Chris-centric ways (if they are still able to), or continue to take risks and grow as a group and hopefully everyone else gets to eventually fill a bit of that hole left by Chris pulling back. I feel conflicted in this, I hope they can grow enough and have it in them to develop their styles and abilities altogether so that they no longer have to rely on CM alone to bring that 'magic' - imagine songs that hit you from other directions outside of Chris :D But at the same time I worry a bit that they won't be able to do well outside this established formula... I guess time will tell
9. OT - I was going to say, has anyone else noticed that these two albums (Songs of Innocence and AHFOD) play well side by side each other? I relistened to Songs of Innocence again after watching U2 perform a cracking set on their i+e tour on tv, noticed a lot more detail to the songs, then thought AHFOD has a similar musical palette...
10. Arcade Fire!
11. @beastwars you forgot Q :P Queen - self-titled :D Next person - S...
12. While I agree with you (about musicians creating music, then putting it out there, and hoping people like it), I think the band, and Chris particularly have always cared more than most what other people think, and in general how they are perceived, both musically/ artistically, and as people. I'm sure this is not the only / primary consideration for them with making music, but I do think they feel the need to connect to people, and they make an effort to do so more than the average guitar band (or pretty much any other band). I think they do set out like any other band in terms of creating music (i.e. doing what feels right / comes naturally/ inspires them), but there is always that extra thought/ care, and I think they do constantly ask themselves whether they have achieved the goal of making music that moves people... So while they are not necessarily primarily focused on being chart-toppers for its own sake, topping the charts would logically be a natural by-product of achieving this goal of connecting / resonating with the masses - the more people who are touched by the music, the more likely they are to buy it, and the more likely the band will top the charts. I suppose sometimes it is possible for them to lose sight of the reason they make music as a band in the first place and just focus on the numbers and topping charts instead, but I think the original thought behind that was to make as deep an impact / difference to as many people as possible... And in essence, they still haven't lost that. ;)

That wouldn't surprise me that they did that in the past (hence the comment about whether it was just me)... I've only followed U2 (semi-seriously) since after ATYCLB, and even then only started appreciating them more and more in the past 5 years or so... Unfortunately their output in the past 10 or so years (bar their most recent Songs of Innocence) has not been particularly impressive compared to their previous work - whatever footage I have seen of them during this period (and some of their older shows) has had less audience involvement/ interaction than the current one, and I've often felt that they were emotionally a bit distant live. But they've really worked hard to bridge that gap this time... I've actually really enjoyed watching them and felt genuinely moved by their performance! There's far more audience singalongs than I've ever seen, their sound / all instruments are warmer, the band members are in top form, and production is a step up. I've never previously particularly felt the need to go watch them live, but their current show makes me wanna go see them perform :D
15. I love Tim Minchin, I'll go look up Duke Special sometime:)
16. You mean like Tim Minchin but less twisted / wickedly delicious? :D

^This!!! That is absolutely the song that connected me to them beyond my early childhood ear worms eg Mysterious Ways (only found out years later it was U2 lol) @arushofjacktothehead looks like my question on the other thread was answered ;) Here's to howyousawtheworld :drinking: My top 10 favs (or thereabouts) are: Walk On Stay (Faraway So Close) Beautiful Day Electrical Storm With Or Without You I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own Iris (Hold Me Close) All I Want Is You Sunday Bloody Sunday Btw A local TV channel is currently broadcasting their Paris show following the cancellation post-Paris attacks recently... Just saw them perform Iris - Bono in top vocal form! So is the Edge on guitar in their new songs. They have really stepped up again with this tour... Kudos to them :) (Although on the down side, is it just me or have a few Coldplay influences popped up as well... More artwork / multimedia type stuff, songs rearranged for concerts, making more of an effort to connect with the audience)
18. OT - This thread has just piqued my interest... It made me wonder whether there is a trend in terms of output of other artists that Coldplay fans like... Not necessarily their "best" output but what resonated the most! I was going to start a new thread for it eg "Top 10 Fav U2 songs" or something like that, but then I found this thread following a search --> http://coldplaying.com/forum/index.php?threads/top-10-u2-songs.62765/ It's not exactly the same as what I meant to ask but it's close... It was also started by howyousawtheworld - it might be a nice tribute to him /her but it may bring back some sad ones. What do you guys think - new thread or bump?
19. With Or Without You vs Iris (Hold Me Close)
20. I'm just so used to "chaos of times" now, although "chaos sometimes" is good as well - makes it more melancholic and nostalgic rather than straight up almost desperate
21. I think Ghost Story might have a chance... That'll be their acoustic one in the set...
22. Beautiful Day vs Walk On
