Is This A Coincidence?
Saving it for something? I'm sure they'll play it sometime... It's just soo made for a poignant night at a stadium. Maybe they're still fiddling with a different arrangement that they hope'll blow all our socks off when they finally do play it? In Auss maybe??? :D

I talk shit about Coldplay
I think they're caught up and concentrating on making the most of their fame... I mean the band is ambitious and only like, what.. all in their 20's. Look at it this way, if you were ambitious, and young, and got the kind of attention they got making music, all the while aware that in the end it is just music (i.e. not as world-defining as say starting a war), and also not so set in character (i.e. there's room for change e.g. in musical direction), wouldn't you think that you might very well try what Coldplay have attempted? That is, to see how many records you could sell, stretching your musical boundaries outside of your genre/what originally made you successful? Remember, they found success relatively early and easily and haven't had much failure... They probably feel quite invincible (rightly) and aren't scared to try out and discover what they can / can't do... Maybe you need to put it in perspective a little that for Coldplay, they are still at the trying out things stage... Many other bands who've played for years before getting signed up/famous know what works/doesn't for them so stick to what they know. I do also feel somewhat sad at what they've lost, but I do believe that one day they'll get it back... People can't live like what they're doing now for too long without it all falling apart. I think these guys have it in them to know how to pick up the pieces then and get it all back. When that happens, I reckon that album will be heaps better than Parachutes given the way the band have never stopped improving in their other areas.

Does anyone know the exactly total sales of x&y now in U
Well, since it's only been out about 5 months and already sold 6 million (worldwide - sorry for hijacking your topic jameschen)... I think you can safely bet that it'll eventually surpass 10 million, especially with the correct marketing. Based on the fact that Parachutes and AROBTTH are still in the 100's charts, I predict X&Y will steadily sell for years to come since it is a pretty solid album and will probably attract new audience segments. I'm saying all of this based on pass experience with the BSB :o who sold >80 million albums despite their (some say mediocre) music  And don't worry about X&Y being classified a rock record... They've clearly crossed-over to take up the 'pop music' segment ala U2 :D

I talk shit about Coldplay
They still do... Although I would agree if you said that they'd lost something that's central to them being called Coldplay. I can't put my finger down to what it is exactly, but I sure as hell can feel something important's been lost. Put that down to exhaustion or losing perspective/focus maybe...

The Hardest Part: A Joke
I know! But I think it all fits in... Since the album is about extremes and "the tension of opposites" as Chris puts it, in a way this song encapsulates X&Y perfectly- they're such geniuses, and the audaciousness to be putting these contrasts together all within a song! The upbeat mood of the music tempers what would have been devastating lyrics had it been matched with something more sombre. The more I listen to it and think about it, the more I feel that X&Y is a concept album... Only that Coldplay have gone about it in a subtle way, sort of masking it as a mainstream album of assorted hits.

Album ratings!
- Nirvana's Nevermind voted 'Most Overrated' Album Of All Time
Good point. X&Y and The Libertines are only included because they are the more recent albums that people remember for all the hype (+ve or otherwise) that the albums received... Totally too soon to call them overrated, especially given the huge amount of album sales surrounding X&Y. We might be able to say in a couple of years (if people still remember the albums that is ). I think part of the reason OK Computer and St Peppers are called overrated is because people still talk about them and recommend them to others when they think back of notable records made throughout history... My take is that they must've been good if so many people remember them for all the right reasons :D- Starsailor
The music video still looks gorgeous even though the concept's been done a thousand times. Thanks Ren. Looks like the big sound production - led by Coldplay no less - is back... Here's to blasted ears - Hurricane Stan
I guess maybe less people are affected in a way... I mean when the US gets hit, economies worldwide are affected, whereas a hurricane hitting Latin America would have less impact on say Asian economies I suppose.- WHO effort to cut down chronic diseases
"36 million lives could be saved worldwide by 2015 if deaths from chronic diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, and cancer, are reduced by an additional 2% annually... globally, around 58 million people will die in 2005; 35million of these deaths will be from chronic diseases." :o And the worst part of it is, the people most affected are not the rich, but the urbanised poor... Some food for thought: http://www.thelancet.com/collections/series/chronic_diseases These are a series of free articles by the Lancet concerning chronic diseases and how they could be effectively reduced... especially in third-world countries (just register a username & password to read the 4 articles). The WHO is advocating an all-round approach to involve people to reduce chronic diseases around the world. I thought I'd do my part and post the link for those who might be interested and who might also be able to make a difference from their area of work... Besides, it'd make some interesting extra reading about the state of our world and where we are heading... I thought it appropriate given Coldplay's strong stand on advocacy and stuff and how it'd tie in nicely with their MTF and Live8 campaigns. Sorry they may be rather specialised and not exactly easy reading, but I figured Coldplay fans are people who do care about stuff and are pretty smart anyways  Some interesting (if not widespread) myths about "chronic diseases" Myth #1: “Chronic diseases are diseases of affluence” Fact: four out of five deaths from chronic disease are in low-income and middle-income countries... chronic disease risks become widespread much earlier in a country's economic development than is usually realised... as the national income of poor countries rises. They remain steady once a certain level of national income is reached, before eventually declining. Myth #2: “People must die of something” Fact: Certainly everyone has to die of something, but death does not need to be slow, painful, or premature. Most chronic diseases... are likely to cause people to become progressively ill and debilitated, especially if their diseases are not managed correctly. This is especially true in low-income and middle-income countries, where people tend to develop disease at younger ages, suffer longer— often with preventable complications—and die sooner than those in high-income countries. Death is inevitable, but a life of protracted ill health is not. And since I'm at it, a couple of other related links, also from the Lancet... Thanks for the links- Album ratings!
Previously Parachutes got highest marks from me, followed by AROBTTH and X&Y. The time has come I think, for me to change my ratings... I miss the expanse of X&Y now when I listen to their previous two albums... Anyone feel the same?- Guess the song!
Bigger, Stronger "in the dead of night..."- AUSSIE FANS - COLDPLAY concert (has come) or is coming!
Aww you guys... It must be pretty stressing to have to try to get tickets and dunno whether you'll get them or not. I mean I'm sad I can't get tix but I seriously dunno what I'd do if I did get to buy them... I'd probably flip out from all the stress just trying to get my hands on them. I guess I'm better off than you guys in not having to go through all this uncertainty. And I might even be lucky coz a guy just contacted me and he may have extra tix which he said I could have... What kind of dumb luck is that? :o I guess I'll have to wait and see (and really hope he manages to get them)... Just wanna say Have hope people! After all 90% of the tickets are in the general allocation. Wish y'all luck in getting the tix you want! *Hugz* &... Coldplay fans are the best!- AUSSIE FANS - COLDPLAY concert (has come) or is coming!
Aww thanks... But I'm renting a place, so no luck there. Don't know anyone personally who could help, but thanks- AUSSIE FANS - COLDPLAY concert (has come) or is coming!
I guess I could... But I dunno how to tell my parents. They wouldn't understand... I was hoping so much that the tix would only be sold after I'd started my semester in February so that I could secretly get them without my parents knowing :sneaky: But now this... I really dunno what to do  I've been so hoping to see them for so long and now I'll probably have to miss them coz they'll all be sold out by then- AUSSIE FANS - COLDPLAY concert (has come) or is coming!
Aack! I don't know what to do... I'll be in Australia next year and they're playing Brisbane- right where I'll be studying- on my b'day too! How on earth am I gonna get tix for that??? This is the worst thing that could happen, they come right to my doorstep and I have to miss their gig :bigcry:- Guess the song!
