I talk shit about Coldplay
Just a point Steph... What about some people who've only heard the album recently, i.e. didn't go out and get the album for some reason or other until recently? Last I checked, X&Y was still selling by the shiploads... And believe it or not, there're people still discovering Coldplaying.com (not referring to The Reckoner of course)... Also, older fans (i.e. in age and also those who've been fans longer) are less likely to respond as fast / form opinions as quickly... we've been wrong more times before :D So to sum it all up, I think there are still people new to this X&Y experience who are expressing feelings that are new to them. On the other hand, there are also those of us who although we've known the album for 4 months already, are only beginning to realise / form certain opinions / theories about the motivation behind the album... I may not be able to speak for The Reckoner 00, but for myself, it's not that I still miss the 'Parachute' days (I've accepted that they're not gonna do that again- at least not in the near future anyway)... It's more of seeing what Coldplay are becoming (it looks increasingly like a commercialised behemoth to me), and hoping against hope that there may be other explanations for my observations. This thread has not been about 'X&Y' per se (I think most of us have accepted the album, warts and all), rather it's about what X&Y signifies in the context of the bands development... Some of us are concerned about what we perceive as the over-commercialisation of the band. Coldplay may not have sold their souls to the devil just yet and probably don't intend to (I for one hope-to-God they never will), but they are showing some clear signs of becoming the next Backstreet Boys (whatever that implies). So I guess if you want to have less threads like this, maybe you could help us with our conundrum by offering another point of view about where Coldplay are heading and why (some clear evidence would help too) :P

I talk shit about Coldplay
I feel for you man... This board is starting to look like it's being taken over by teeny-bopper type noobs. Check out Chris Martin --> dunno whether to  /  / :( These people really need to react less personally to things being said about the band and separate their personalities from the band/music. Well, I'm still :/ While I'm happy there're more fans than I ever thought possible for them, I've really got mixed feelings about Coldplay becoming a pop entity... Well, I guess I'll try to look at the bright side and be happy for them that they've got more people appreciating their music

Vote To Impeach Dubya!
For those of you who feel strongly about this, and can do anything about it... Visit this website http://www.votetoimpeach.org/ They're looking for 1,000,000 people to support their referendum to impeach Bush. Unfortunately (and I guess quite rightly so) you have to be American  Some points raised on why Bush should be impeached: Bush's handling of the Katrina catastrophe, and the actions of the administration prior to the hurricane, constitute a clear pattern of criminal negligence and gross misconduct. Here are just a few of the facts that highlight the criminal negligence and Presidential misconduct: * The Bush administration is spending $200 million each day or $1.4 billion each week for its criminal war of aggression in Iraq * Despite the fact that scientific experts had widely publicized predictions of the coming catastrophe in New Orleans, the Bush administration was hell bent on diverting resources to the Iraq war, while it slashed funds for flood control operations in New Orleans. Bush has taken the money needed to protect and serve the needs of society and spent it on his war of aggression against the people of Iraq, on multi-billion dollar contracts for his corporate friends, and on tax cuts for the super-rich. Although he turned away as hundreds of people - including babies and the elderly - drowned and starved, now he is compelled to at least pretend to take action. This is not out of concern for the well-being of the suffering people, but concern for his popularity - the people of the United States have turned against his criminal administration. Enuff said... Too bad I can't vote

Earthquake kills thousands in S.E. Asia
Sorry... Just had to correct a slight error of fact. The earthquake occurred in South Asia, not South-East Asia... Geographically if you look at the world map, South Asia is around India, Pakistan, etc... the area between China and the middle east. East Asia would be China, Japan, Korea and all the eastern Asian countries up north. South-East Asia on the other hand, refers to a group of ten countries located between China and Australia... just look at the land below China, encompassing the main land mass, as well as the group of island arpichelagoes scattered there e.g. Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Phillipines. The tsunami occured in S.E. Asia; the earthquake this time's in South Asia. And yeah, it happened about a week ago... they're still retrieving bodies all over the place. The sad thing is accessibility as well as health care facilities/personnel are so poor that there've been so many people being carried by relatives / fellow villagers for days before they get to places with medical facilities. Limbs have turned gangrenous and have had to be amputated while there're villages with people dying because there's no access to healthcare. http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2005/10/16/worldupdates/2005-10-16t131310z_01_nootr_rtrjonc_0_-219611-2&sec=worldupdates http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2005/10/16/world/20051016114554&sec=world

George W Bush..........
Don't worry coldplaying, I've a feeling this war is actually Bush's war more than anyone elses. So I don't think it will continue for much longer once the next prez takes over. Most countries go to war over longstanding enmity between its citizens, that's why the war can last for generations. But Bush's war against Iraq was not for such reasons, so I don't think it'll continue after Bush.

George W Bush..........
Well, this time if the rest of us just stand by and allow him to take international law hostage, then by jove, we do deserve to have him as leader of the world. As I've said earlier elsewhere... IMPEACH HIM!!! Presidents have had impeachment proceedings started against them for far less. Impeach him for among other things... 1) abuse of power - totally disregarding the American Constitution (witness Guantanamo Bay; trying to turn the secular federal government into a religious one) 2) for incompetence (response to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans) 3) for misleading the American public (as well as the rest of the world) using his by now infamous WMD to justify invading Iraq <-- he was either a) incompetent to have so had many failed heads of intelligences working under him; or b)was deceiving the people (possible perjury?). Either way, both are good enough grounds to impeach... Btw, I just did a google search on impeachment and found this thread http://www.votetoimpeach.org/ ... There is a movement mounting an impeachment campaign against him :o I didn't know before. They're aiming to get 1,000,000 to vote for impeachment... So all you US people, get voting! :sneaky:

I talk shit about Coldplay
^^^ Well, thank you so much guys for all your efforts over the weekend in giving me my entertainment of the day    An_cat, I get that you come from the "there's no use moping unless you can do something about it make lemonade with lemons" school of thought... I used to be like that too. But as I said earlier, I think what The Reckoner 00 was trying to do when he started this thread was to share his worries about the direction Coldplay are heading with any other fans who might happen to feel the same way... He didn't mean to launch a direct attack on the X&Y supporters. And I don't think he exactly invited the 'think positive aka X&Y is God' :P support gang to contribute their opinions here either. It sounds harsh, but I think those of us who disagree with The Reckoner 00's original post do not need to criticise his post in his thread... Go start a new thread elsewhere about how Coldplay are doing everything right and dispute his point of view if you must / want to there. I mean afterall he did give ample warning... the title's called "I talk shit about Coldplay" How much more explicit can it get than that? I'm sure his post didn't mean to show the band any disrespect. Again like I said earlier, sure you can like/love Coldplay for a million and one reasons and create threads expressing such sentiments, but I'm sure that does not preclude others from saying their piece to the contrary, right? Oh, and I am happy (and rather surprised) that for once the arguments hurled back-and-forth are being addressed and clarified in such a civilised (and rational) manner. Such rare behaviour nowadays...

Guess the song!

What is your current most hated song??
Well, I was too young to properly remember what the original Axel F sounded like. And I'd classify Axel F as a disco song, so whatever incarnation turns up (unless it's that horrible) doesn't make much difference to me. :P
-
Where Is My Boy? - WOW
^ It shouldn't. It ends with Chris singing "And I'll stay in the place I know..." and floats off fairly quickly from there --> Mine ends at 5:32 minutes. It gives you the feeling like the singer's finished singing and suddenly walked off, and you've been left hanging there :D

Sparks is such a rainy day song... so melancholic. Those three really are THE songs for weather that puts you in a reflecting mood :smug:

What is your current most hated song??
I agree, Crazy Frog is annoyin'... But I totally love Axel F (even with those bopping bits) It's one of those catchy, effortless tunes that makes you wanna get up and move. I was so happy that it was taking the airwaves by storm again :P Understandable why Chris was pissed though... it must be pretty hard to take that one of the first songs you learnt to play is trumping your current single :P

George W Bush..........
Don't worry... We won't see him for another term again... Not unless he hijacks the American constitution or something (I wouldn't put it past him)... American presidents can only serve for two terms = 8 years. He was re-elected already!!! Thank goodness for that! He must've been one of the most destructive world leaders since Hitler...
