balad? probably not. think they'd get rihanna to come do it. she's gearing up to release her next album and have been doing promo for a while. also, coldplay wouldn't miss the chance to get some unimaginable (under normal circumstances) promo for a (probable) new single.

i wanted more (pleasingly) surprising artists, but of course this was coming.. so HFTW is a fix in the set then..

guess we can expect this released within this month. coldplay will perform this with beyonce at the super bowl it looks like..

watched the big short. 9/10. the best movie i've seen from the award contenders so far. wonderfully quirky narrative. and informative, that goes without saying. can't believe this is from the same guy that directed anchorman! but the heroes (if you could call them that) in the movie are deceiving. the people you may feel like cheering on are actually a big part of the problem too.

love it! a nice departure from all the grand-stated recent mv's. fits the song in it's flighty, indie nature. an interesting, yet simple video. and i agree that this doesn't look like a single. was really hoping for birds to be, but at least we got a video! and like someone before mentioned, yey for getting more attention to the best song on the album! although i do get that this is not an ideal choice for a single.

or they just got bored with making similar sounding songs and thought this was an avenue that they could explore? granted, coldplay are not the most musically gifted band there is (in order to venture into totally new territory). and they sure don't make better pop music than alt rock.

don't forget the xylobands! remember how they started blinking all on their own weeks/months later? we thought it was coldplay trying mind control, but turns out it was their illuminati pushing agenda all along! i threw mine away a long time ago, so i think i'm spared. sorry for all you suckers who saved them..

I personally think they are waiting to release HFTW to concise with the Superbowl performance. That is the biggest gig they have had in several years. Night as well have a single to boost the performance or vise versa. Yeah :-) I think I mentioned before how I didn't believe Chris when he said he didn't care about chart positions etc up until this era. He definitely seem to have embraced this happy-hippie vibe going on these days. But still he/coldplay is/are too competitive not to care about sales figures I guess. But in terms of chart positions, I don't believe they do any more. For the repearedly mentioned reasons. While I do think they expect HFTW to be this huge single, I don't think they would engineer one with solely commercial expectations. To think that they would write a whole album, years of work, just with commercial aspirations is sad. I mean do you really think that less of the band? Even though I question a lot of their decisions, I don't think they are "that band". I do think they really care about the fans' opinions but not so much about the naysayers or general reviewers. I mean, how can they discard their fanbases' opinions? Where would they be if they loose their fans? For such an eager to please band, that wouldn't make sense.

I really think coldplay were that competitive up until MX for sure. But really don't think that's the case since at least AHFOD. Think their behaviour this era backs that up.
