  1. In the thread labeled "why hymn for the weekend doesn't perform well inchart like other second single?" Why would you think I'm talking about AOAL?
  2. Found this for 2001, not bad. I think In My Place during this set is a good example of what AROBTTH really did for them. It gave them a little energy where it was needed.
  3. Whenever I watch old performances I think it's such a crime that the good stuff had to get the worse end of the deal. I would give so much to have Glastonbury 2002 in its complete form on a nice professionally recorded DVD. At least we got Live 2003.
  4. http://pixmob.com/ Looks like we've got competition fellas
  5. Jason is doing pretty well for himself I could assume, they've been all over the place.
  6. Maybe I'm too old or everyone needs a history lesson First of all, Coldplay is still lame to the mainstream. If you didn't notice the backlash Chris got for being the odd one out or being the butt of everyone's halftime joke at the Super Bowl, you probably aren't looking hard enough. Everyone will FOREVER know Coldplay as the "lame", "snoozy", and "sad" band. You can argue all you want with anecdotal evidence but it's true. No matter how many albums they churn out with Norway's finest (whoever the producers are, stargaze?) they will ALWAYS be known for Viva, Clocks, Yellow, and maybe Paradise. The rest of their hits come and go in pop culture. Viva, Clocks, and Yellow are the songs you hear when they get mentioned on the news. No one is paying attention to Coldplay the hip and happening pop music band anymore, they can't ride relevance to every corner of the world like they could all VLV Era. Alternative stations aren't playing it, Pop stations aren't playing it, quite frankly it's not their best work. Second, being "uncool" in music doesn't get your singles played. can explain it all much better than I ever could. Required listening: Bonus:
  7. Works for me, idk. I included the link now.
  8. Buzzfeed is without question the worst the internet has to offer. The "callout" on Chris comment just shows you how little BuzzFeed actually cares about the source material. Better yet here's a video With little investigation, you'd figure out that the design and color scheme are very similar to all the this era's artwork. But instead of informing the viewers as to why he's wearing it they just let the (probably scripted) joke run it's so hilarious and original course. Also the comment on traffic in India is supposed to come off as sarcastic and imply it's a stereotype. I'll let you decide for yourself (the man in the video might come off as opinionated but it's worth hearing his input) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=mPne-q4ynts;m=4;s=26 Note at 5:54 what comes along the right side of the road for extra fun I did however, after bearing through this video, feel the genuine pain for the Arctic Monkeys dude.
  9. Robbing Up&Up of its guitar solo would be a bad idea imo. Robbing Fix You of its sing along is equally awful.
  10. It's ok, nothing that great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BXg18Cx0DM "This album started the day Viva was released." I can only imagine how downhill it went in those years. "Make things sound more alive and colorful" Hmmm where have I heard that before. "(Speaking about the album cover and the album) It's about finding freedom in an oppressive situation." "(Lyrics) are about sticking together with the people you love." I don't see how any of this is different than AHFOD, I'm in full agreement with you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=euASk1fJVL8;m=2;s=42 Wow how insightful Guy, maybe you should produce the albums. "We played all the studio games on (Low) that song, if you do that on every song it turns out rubbish." wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww "The bands we've been listening to recently; Joy Division, Kraftwerk, David Bowie, etc, etc" I wonder why the new albums sound different :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=Sm6RP7Agrdc;m=2;s=7 "I can't wait to play all those songs forever." no comment
  11. Did the best they could at the Super Bowl, performing in the daylight is rough when you're trying to sell something BIG. If you rewatch some older ones (McCartney and Prince) the night and lights can make it much more epic. Overall I liked the performance, Bruno Mars could be the next James Brown if he wants to. He's a very talented performer. The little dance off thing was interesting, Beyonce saved herself from falling over, clutchest play of the game. The Clocks/Fix You thing they did when they recapped the old halftime shows was the best part. Very happy they touched on Purple Rain, and Chris's vocals held up enough.
  12. Their music isn't my style and their style isn't my style either, but they're both seriously talented. Their super bowl sets showcased it.
  13. Yeah, he could tell very vivid stories and convey emotions very well within a few minutes. Prospekt's March, Everything's Not Lost, AROBTTH, See You Soon, Warning Sign, Yes, and my personal favorite Amsterdam, all come to mind. Getting a Death Cab / Snow Patrol vibe from this, neat.
  14. Probably, I'm surprised you even got floor seats.
  15. Just a reminder that this is the super bowl audience
  16. And with the change went his ability to write lyrics.
  17. After more thought I think VLV may actually tie AROBTTH in my mind. There's an unexplainable feeling they both give, and though they aren't opposites, they feel like brother and sister. Their discography compliments itself. The direction and work that went into each successive album sounds like they built on their work in different ways. (Wacky opinionated similes incoming) AROBTTH is like Parachutes if you made it go to college and sit up straight, it's refined and bigger. Viva is like X&Y teaching AROBTTH how to experiment with new sounds, mixed with Eno when he was good for the band, it's fresh and artistic. As much as I can't wrap my head around their direction, it's still Coldplay. They aren't unrecognizable, and even though a few years ago I would have told you X Marks the Spot was in fact written by The Nappies, I'm not going to stop watching new live appearances and interviews with them, or going to concerts (unless things get REALLY grim). So as much as I think "wow they're really not coming back around", they could also be way worse, if that's any consolation. One last metaphor, AHFOD is a conversation someone overheard from X&Y and MX and tried to retell word for word. It feels disingenuous and immature for the band that wrote songs like "Twisted Logic" or "A Rush of Blood to the Head" to have "Hymn for the Weekend" in the same discography.
  18. To add on that If you listen to Death and All His Friends, you can hear Chris's fingers press on the keys and his voice echo off the room in stereo. You can actually tell where he's playing on the piano, very neat. There's a lot of these little things you can find in most songs.
  19. One of the best aspects of Parachutes is the space it was recorded in. Try to listen to Will's percussion and contrast it with another instrument, a good example is Chris's guitar in High Speed.
  20. I've actually been contrasting it with older albums. I'll pick out an album or EP and try to squeeze in a AHFOD song. Last time I did AOAL between Lost and Lovers just to compare production decisions and overall recording quality. All I can say is that Lost was very well done. Aside from some audiable pops towards the beginning that seem to be something to do with percussion, (I'll have to re listen on my setup at home, this was off my phone at the time.) Lost is a great example of blending digital with analog. I might make a larger post about this if I'm up to it tomorrow. So yeah, production is still not in my good graces. It's still a Coldplay album but man is it ever stretching that. It's also still the worst album, I think. It's not that far away from the next but it's distinguishable. I guess that's based on what I believe makes a Coldplay album. What makes a Coldplay album Coldplay for everyone? Very interested in people's opinions on this.
  21. I signed on a minute after 10 and I got 3 lower level seats, no complaints. I just hope this time around I'm not surrounded by deadbeats who are afraid to sing or move.
  22. Best video of the era. Birds would have the title if it could sit still for a few seconds. Last three eras have had such lame videos, not that I'm even a huge fan of music videos in the first place. Midnight was alright I guess. The rest have felt very over produced (surprise) and lack any meaningful artistic direction or relation to the song. On a current event note https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=phdwmd9xrFI;t=39 Crazy how actual instruments (like REAL DRUMS) and a sense of soundstage can make a song sound better even when it's a tiny clip.
  23. Were floor level tickets available to anyone?
  24. Yeah, don't know how the tickets are gonna be sold for the Linc (gen admission on the field, seats, etc) but you can bet I'm getting as close as possible.
