Wish list for next era tour
im BUMPING this thread cause I wanted to share my thoughts on what I think the next tour should be like IMO. Right off the bat, this shouldn't be a copy of MX. I've heard that there will be a return of the xyloband and that's fine... but everything else, whether it be the intense color, graffiti, all that. I hope isn't a repeat. With that said, if this rlly is MX 2.0 coming, I hope its recognized as that. Obviously big stadium/arena tours will come with the given - extravagant lighting, lasers, confetti. But there usually is something special about each tour. I personally love Viva La Vida tour cause it highlighted on the best parts of the band, with X&Y songs being done differently and more heartfelt, the acoustic creative bits even with Will singing... I feel it was powerful and big enough for stadiums without seeing too enormous. I feel MX tour was a bit like that. Not that is was bad at all, but like the album MX itself, it just felt like a bit of that personal connection was lost. With Ghost Stories Tour, I feel like we might have regained it, but then again, I also feel like the tour was one of the worst of Coldplay's history. I hated the fact that MX was contrasting the darkness of GS. I felt they included MX so they didn't bore the audience, but why not try and bring back old favorites like Don't Panic, Amsterdam, We Never Change, other low key songs that would have fit so much better than Paradise, Charlie Brown, or ETDIAWF. I think that the whole low key tour was a missed opportunity. My fear is that this next tour is going to be another MX filled setlist and with a few GS songs and the new songs, we might lose a lot of Viva, X&Y, and Parachute songs. AROBTTH will always be well represented I think, but these special eras shouldn't be forgotten. So my biggest wish for LP7 tour is simply a well distributed tour. I think the only way to do that is to do 2 hour concerts. I know people don't think its possible, but U2 can do it, so I know Coldplay can. And with every album, they lose the ability to play all the essential hits from each album. Parachutes: Yellow, Everything's Not Lost, Shiver AROBTTH: Clocks, The Scientist, In My Place, Politik, GPASUYF X&Y: Speed of Sound, Fix You, Hardest Part, Talk Viva (this one is the biggest because it has so many loved songs) : LIT II, Viva La Vida, Violet Hill, LIJ, Strawberry Swing MX: Paradise, Charlie Brown, ETDIAWF GS: Magic, ASFOS, True Love, Oceans That's 25 songs. You could take a bunch of songs away from those albums that may not be your essential hits, but even 20 songs plus LP7 songs will probably be about 25 songs or more. If they continue to play 15-20 songs at most, we will probably lose Parachutes or X&Y except for maybe Fix You. But if Coldplay intends to do an hour concert, that's fine, but make sure you have all you albums covered. And change your setlist a lot. As for the design of the tour, that depends solely on the album design. A dark album (which I believe is not the direction of LP7) requires a AROBTTH white washed sort of design. A colorful album like Viva or MX can vary. But whatever it is, find something to define it. I hope they don't let Mylobands 2.0 be that. Find something new. Anyways, other than it, I love when they change up old songs and cover songs. Its a fun thing for me personally and it can connect audiences to them imo. I hope they do that again. Am I over my head here? Probably, but I just don't want more of the same. Maybe I'm the only fan who is scared of Coldplay going back to MX 2.0, which done correctly could be brilliant, but also could be a disaster. But I don't think im the only fan who wants more songs and more diversity in the setlists.

NEW XYLOBANDS!!(?)
The first thing i think of when i saw those bands is the theory about how the pink floyd type style. All those colors make me thing about them

Chris Martin, Nile Rodgers and Avicii collaborating for a new song
Singer, most famously Paul McCartney, are able to change their voices to the point where its unrecognizable. Not to say this is for sure Chris, but it does sorta sound like him, but it sounds like he is trying to have a nasal sound.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
can they just do an acapella album with Guy as the lead vocalist so we can all die in peace
-
LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I agree 100% except id say MX was more like X&Y since it was a massive over powered version of Coldplay's electronic era. I'd say this will be there AROBTTH album of this era. The most rounded out version. Hopefully the best.

what song is stuck in your head now

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
i rlly think its just part of the video tbh. I mean... why bother? It fits with the video, and they will start promotions in a few months probably

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I'd usually say no to that, but the fact that we are so close, who knows whats going to happen. They could drop the album tomorrow. So while i take it with a very large grain of salt, its very much possible imo.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Imagine doing that for 15 years. It might get boring. People's music tastes change. Chris' music tastes have certainly change. I'm not so against mainstream poprock, but i just want it to be artistically thrilling like Viva was and parts of MX and GS. Always In My Head is one of my favorite songs period. So is O. Charlie Brown and Hurts Like Heaven are two amazing songs as well. These songs are just as good as Viva songs imo. I'd love them to go and make a straight rock record, but with this day an age, i doubt we are going back at that point unfortunately

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Fair enough, i agree with you with Ghost Stories. However, you cannot help but notice the trendy producers and of course avicii in an album like GS. The album did have a lot of things that pushed it away from mainstream. But if the next album is supposed to be more fan-friendlier, with the Rihanna collab and potential Avicii collab... idk, im hoping that this next album can improve upon MX and GS, with both their respectable flaws. And i shouldnt have said that MX and GS werent striving for greatness. MX was actually very ambitious and very big. I think that MX's problem, and of course this is my opinion, is that it was all over the place in production and many of the songs (Paradise, ETDIAWF, PoC, DLIBYH, Charlie Brown, HLH) were more mainstream then anything else coldplay had done before, except maybe X&Y. I'm not one of those guys who hates MX and GS. In fact, I love MX and GS. But I do prefer Viva, AROBTTH, Parachutes, over MX and GS. Not because MX is not as good as Parachutes, but because i like the more subtle, less poppy feeling of it. It sounds raw and MX sounds overly polished compared to the live version of many of these songs that sound better.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Coldplay is going to make this next album which i think will be a mix of light dance rock (almost disco hence niles rodger collabing with chris), edm, and pop. I also think its going to be about the same as MX when it comes to critic acclaim. It wont be loved, it will be accepted. People will say that this isnt bad, but it isnt original. Chris will continue will have better lyrics because he will be writing in the pov of his own characters, which will probably have a lot better word play. I expect MX type lyrics, some great some ugly. I feel like this album will have a lot of guitar, some real drums (not all real drums), and bass will be scaled back. It wont be MX 2.0 because MX was a story. This will be a collection of songs under some theme of love. Rihanna's song with Coldplay is going to be actually good, while avicii's edm song with Coldplay is going to suck balls. I expect Coldplay's last big hit coming from this album. It might be Rihanna's song, but whatever it is, it will make the top 10, maybe at 8 or 9 and then after that, Coldplay will do a huge tour and take a four or three year break. I feel like Imagine Dragons or some band will take Coldplay's throne and it is then and there that i feel Coldplay will go back to its roots and start having to prove itself again. Its something seen often that bands that flop or lose their fans end up looking back to their old biggest successes and trying to replicate it, not just the sound, but the intensity of how they made it. Say what u want about GS, but no matter how much they wanted to bring Parachutes' sound to this record, they would never match the rawness that comes from being desperate as an up and coming bad. So ya, basically, i think Coldplay is a band who doesnt want to be the greatest band in the world. I think Viva did this... Viva was an amazing album, but it was hurt from the Coldplay hate that was at a fever pitch among critics. NME basically betrayed Coldplay after loving X&Y, and Rolling Stone said they were following the same formula (does this sound anything like X&Y?). Its sad because imagine if Coldplay had kept pushing the abstract, thematic awesomeness that was viva. Instead we've gotten MX and GS, two albums that are good, but are not striving for greatness, rather striving to please the majority

True Love is the next video? *Official video released*
Tbh, i've been thinking about this a long time and it clear to me now that Coldplay is effectively trying to stay mainstream to the point where they have jumped on the bandwagon of making stupid "funny" music videos to get more views. Also i think they are still trying to make funny videos to cleanse the bland reputation that Coldplay once (still maybe) has. I remember Viva era that u could defend Coldplay easily when talking to a hater. Nowadays, I usually agree and say Coldplay has sold out. Have they sold out? Idk, they honestly don't need to. They seem to want to. This video was god awful...

Setlist for the LP7 tour
My problem with the setlist for GS tour, is that it was like they wanted to go for the lower key sound of the album, but also keep the vibe of MX tour in it. At times it sounded great, other times it didn't. Now for this tour, i hope they drop the GS and keep the MX. I get the fact the MX was practically made for big live shows, give them a break. If they had dropped them for the GS tour, then they could bring them back for this tour and they would sound fresh. ROBTTH has a ton of more fitting songs for the era GS in, like Daylight, Amsterdam, The Scientist... Even X&Y and Parachutes had a ton of fitting songs. What im ranting about is that Coldplay should concentrate on something else, how about some X&Y stuff? Twisted Logic? Hmmm xD
