  1. So what do people think this means for the release of the next album??? Do people think this is going to be LP5's lead single.... or is this, much like Christmas lights, simply a way to buy a little more time.... I would guess it is the lead single from a new album. Thoughts?
  2. Honorable Mention: Lovers in Japan, Prospekt's March, Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground
  3. 1. Violet Hill 2. Strawberry Swing 3. Death and All His Friends 4. Glass of Water 5. Lit ii
  4. and, i should not, lifted from other coldplay tracks... not saying they are using other artists' lyrics
  5. anyone notice how Christmas lights just lifted lines from other songs. ("Poison in my blood" and "always loved you and always will") It's like a mash up of wedding bells and christmas lights. Not saying the new track is bad, just an observation
  6. In my opinion, this is the opportunity for the band to cement its legacy. There are points in any artist's career when things just click. I truly believe this is Coldplay's time. Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends exceeded the quality of the first three studio albums. Prospekt's March proved the band has reached its songwriting stride, producing great songs that could not make the cut on the LP. The intent of this thread is to discuss LP5. What will it sound like? When will it come out? Does this represent that pivotal moment in a band's career where it either delivers or fades back into mediocrity? Let's discuss the impending album....
  7. absolutely, absolutely, completely, perplexingly ridiculous. there are two or three notes that are the same (the "rule the world" part). does anyone have any idea how many songs borrow chord progressions from other songs? or pieces of melody? there are seven notes in a major scale. to sue a band that has composed brilliant music because two or three notes sound similar is just the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. and, good god, satriani is perhaps the best example of what happens when you have loads of talent but a lack of vision. if it goes to trial, great. maybe then people can gain a least a partial understanding of the way in which bands and artists have borrowed from each other for decades. yes, there are two sides to every story. but this seems strikingly one-sided to me.
  8. I know it is kinda selfish to make my review its own thread, but I feel as if this is a slightly new take on the album. So maybe, hopefully, it's warranted? What really caught me was the duality of the album: the band repeatedly stated that this album should be listened to from start to finish; an album, in its truest sense, and not merely a collection of songs. I noticed a trend occurring throughout the record; the songs alternate between sunny and dark, life and death...Viva La Vida and Death and All His Friends, if you will. I am going to try to talk about the duality I have noticed... two tracks at a time. The first track is called "LIFE in Technicolor," it is upbeat and inspiring. It is followed by CEMETERIES of London. The contrast is evident not just in the song titles but in the overall mood of the two tracks. Next pair: "Lost!" is, again, upbeat: it is about overcoming the odds and persevering when everything is stacked up against you. "42," like Cemeteries of London, revisits the theme of death and abandons the poppy, melodic approach to pursue something more experimental. The contrast between "Lovers in Japan" and "Yes" is perhaps the most intriguing. While "Lovers" is a shimmering tune about love and optimism, "Yes" offers the flipside of love: lust. Both tracks have a second, hidden track following them, which also offer a sharp contrast.... "Reign of Love" is a basic, fundamental track and "Chinese Sleep Chant" is more experimental and less accessible. "Viva La Vida" and "Violet Hill" offer more of a musical contrast. I realize that Martin's lyrics about a deposed king cannot be interpreted as 'happy,' but these songs differ on a musical level. Track 7 is beautiful, polished and uplifting. "Violet Hill," is cluttered and aggressive. And, last but not least, the trend comes full circle: Strawberry Swing is an upbeat, nostalgic song built on African influences; Martin declares "It's such a perfect day." The closing track is, of course, "DEATH and all his friends." This may not be a groundbreaking discovery or anything, but I think it is cool to think about the album this way
  9. I really like square one. it just pulsates with energy. Jonny's riff at the end of fix you is fantastic. Low is awesome and has great lyrics. Till Kingdom Come is absolutely beautiful. Those are currently my top four. Swallowed in the Sea has the best music but the lyrics fall short.
  10. Reilly, if you are as smart and important as your pretend to be, how can you possibly have enough time on your hands to perpetually be on the message board of a band you don't like?
  11. haha, just pitiful writing..... i was most offended by the fact that he said "no sane person can name the other three band members." what a dick. jonny adds so much to this album. Will too. Guy probably (I haven't heard all the tracks yet). What a douche
  12. Also, there is a show about coldplay the night before the album comes out, right??? on the MTV
  13. recordin it by any chance?
  14. haha i look forward to the first listen amazement as well

is coldplay big in japan in spite of the language barrier?
  16. crazy.... so these tracks will all be on the internet soon
  17. Wow, it is crazy to think that this album will be out soon. Could someone please explain why there was so much security surrounding this album when it will still be available for download before the release??
  18. I am really surprised no one is talking more about this.... I know it was mentioned before in previous threads but honestly in three days the album will be on mtv.com. does anyone know what form it'll be in? (like will media player be enough, can it be downloaded?)
  19. coldplay live 2003 wasn't too good... i would hope they don't do another live dvd until after one more album
  20. what songs discuss the sea or space? square one, speed of sound, swallowed in the sea, anything else?? I think there are too many space metaphors
  21. I've only heard this weird version of A Ghost that goes into Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas but sounds like on continuous song
  22. Martin04 replied to Phoenix&y's topic in Past Releases
i really am looking forward to this tune.... kinda surprised it is under five minutes given that it has lots of different parts in it
  23. No, you should be. Let's not lie, the fact that this may be the last album makes it more interesting and makes us kinda cherish it more. Good Post. That said, I think there will be a fourth album but it won't be released until late 2008.
