  1. At the end of UATW Chris started singing about Birds and it was really beautiful and ballady.
  2. ^Hope Coldplay can chart. I noticed today that AOAL has only been out a week and not really even gotten to the Billboard--but I know it takes months sometimes to top the charts. We should end the political discussion now. (and I accidentally keep it going...) Coldplay are a band who are sampling a beautiful piece of music. That is all. Like I said before, the song was sung by Obama at a really beautiful, meaningful event that I think we can all find powerful. This doesn't make the album political. We are taking a moment of Obama's presidency out of context. We don't know how it will sound but it certainly is no reason to want Coldplay to quit making music. This was a musical and emotional choice--not a political one.
  3. Uh oh...the forum has fallen into the fiery pits of politics. Let me attempt to end this right here if I can.. The inclusion of Obama singing Amazing Grace IS NOT A BIG DEAL. Look, I am an American, and I totally get that Obama has made some big violent/military (non-peaceful) decisions and that the U.S. probably violates human rights on a daily basis. Chris likes Obama because not only are their politics generally the same, but because I think he just likes Obama as a person, because lets be honest, he seems like a cool guy. At the end of the day, this isn't a political statement by Chris that we should debate over, nor is it some dorky sampling. I will make a list of why this isn't a big deal and could be really cool: 1. Amazing Grace is perhaps one of the single most beautiful pieces of music ever written--a moving hymn. I am excited to hear Coldplay use it. 2. Obama sang the shit out of it. 3. He was doing so in the face of a terrible tragedy, after an evil act was committed by a sad and corrupted person. But Obama, and the African American community in Charleston, are a wonderful example of resilience and perseverance through even the most atrocious actions and histories. Isn't that kind of the theme of the album too? Obama singing with that church was a really powerful moment in my opinion. 4. On the album, this will be mixed, produced and carefully placed to sound natural. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE YET. As an American I second this notion. :D Also non-american's tend to speak multiple languages which is always tough when I travel around. Makes me feel like a loser (though I studied French for 6 years).
  4. Excited for the album still but I hate interlude tracks with a passion and am going to be extremely upset if Kaleidoscope is one (my favorite title). 1) Why make an interlude when you could just tag it on to the next track!?? MMIX and hopeful transmission should have been part of the ETIAW and DLIBYH! Oceans did it right ... 2) Why sacrifice amazing titles for spoken word!? Seriously!? 3) If you have a bit of atmospheric interlude then just go all out, develop the interlude to be more dynamic and interesting not just a 40 second blip! Carry it on for at least 2 mins. If both Colour Spectrum and Kaleidoscope are super short then my anticipation just went down a notch. These titles intrigue me the most and I was really counting one at least one of them being the albums weird wonky song...(major minus, midnight, yes). Are we gonna get one or have we finally reached full out pop?
  5. I actually think there is. At the end of the day, Chris says a lot of stuff that doesn't actually mean much. Frankly they are still a quartet that principally plays piano/synths, guitar, bass and drums. To me, that means they will always be some sort of "rock" band with whatever label you want to give it (acoustic, soft, limestone, pop, etc.) I think the two songs of AHFOD so far are great and are technically rock songs with great instrumentation. Obviously the boys channel a lot of genres for every album, so who knows, maybe in three years they will be burnt out on pop-dance sounds and say "hey, you know what, I really like Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Johny Cash. Hell, lets do that acoustic folk album with Will on vocals!" I honestly believe that this is a possibility. You can't be the biggest pop-rock band for two decades straight. Eventually they gotta go dad rock like U2 haha
  6. ^I agree and disagree, it sounded like Saket was convinced it is for AHFOD but we don't have confirmation. I think it probably is, but still don't know. For me, AHFOD as the first song on the album will probably be the most Coldplay track, which means probably a stadium rock sound with a nice ambientish intro. Frankly I don't see a song entitled Hymn for the Weekend being in a video full of kids and celebrating Indian Culture, so AHFOD seems a better title for that. But I could be wrong :) Saket did say he distinctly heard a popular woman's voice in the song--QueenB? Or maybe Merry Clayton?
  7. I think we will get abreak after the tour too, maybe an EP for this album? It sounds like such a creative phase (like Viva) that they might have some extra material to bring out mid-next year. At least I hope so. But then yeah, tour for a year and then take a break and spend time with families. Maybe just dink around in the studio for the next 4-5 years before something new comes out.
  8. Me too. I have a really good feeling about it which I didn't have for Ghost Stories for some reason, even though I absolutely loved Midnight and Magic as lead singles and was overall quite satisfied with the album save TL and ASFOS. It is strange... I think that I am getting that same excitement I had with MX because every single had so much colour and energy in it. The fact that Chris Martin says "we are going to do whatever inspires us now" leads me to believe we are going to have more than a few surprises on this new album (I AM PREDICTING JAZZ ON ATLEAST ON TRACK) The guys just seem genuinely happy right now, like all of them. Usually Chris is beaming about a new song and everyone else looks tiredly on in the background bur right now there is energy and creativity so this could potentially be the ENTIRE BAND finding their balance. I also want to mention that even though some folks are upset about the pop level of AOAL, which I understand, it still has some promising alternative rock/pop parts. For me the sheer oddness of the intro and outro mean this is gonna be a viva-ish album. Just focus on the ending and listen underneath the woo-hoo's and you get a sweet, progressive guitar solo/acoustic guitar/xylophone? It reminds me of Viva for sure.
  9. I definitely will. I am almost in same timezone so easy for me.
  10. I could see them performing Hymn for the Weekend and releasing that one within a few weeks time as an even more radio friendly song than AOAL. With a title like that this thing has to be radio friendly, plus all hail Queen B amiright? That is my hope anyways--one or two more singles rolled out week by week until the album is released. That has been the routine for a lot of big pop artists recently actually. Beiber has released three tracks off his new album and Chvrches released 3 as well before the entire thing dropped back in September/October. So maybe that model has been doing a good job selling singles/albums recently? Who knows. What are we thinking the singles are going to be for this record? Are they going to do a Maroon 5 and release like 6 so they stay in radio ubiquity until 2017? My guess is: #1: AOAL #2 Hymn for the Weekend #3: A Head Full of Dreams same week as Album Release with the Mumbai Video #4:a month later, Fun (feat. Tove Lo) and this ends up being the best song unexpectedly (jk I am expecting to hate it)
  11. I don't even think it will be a duet, more likely harmonizing or her contributing some background vocals. Really anxious for this one. Seems like a first draft for a title and they just said f*ck it and went for it haha Wonder if Coldplay will go hip-hop for this one? Or maybe more R&B? If it is rocket powered I assume its going to be quite a banger. Perhaps more EDM than AOAL... Or who knows, maybe it is another disco inspired tune that will be sound like this: [video=youtube;SwB0ZJbwmpw]
  12. Can't wait to hear the studio version of Amazing Day.... Also that performance of ASFOS felt so much more lively than usual? Like, Will's drumming got me pumped up. They must have remixed the back track to favour the instruments or something. Sounded great! Like I actually felt like dancing to this song for the first time ever.............
  13. Just a few thoughts trying to digest all this news: As an "oldplayer" or just a person who wants alternative rock from Coldplay, I am actually really satisfied to hear from the band that they just don't want to fit into a category anymore. All evidence is pointing to this record being their poppiest yet, which I didn't think was possible after GS, but the fact that they seem so happy and willing to explore kind of reminds me of the Viva era without the angst, which isn't a bad thing. This leads me to conclude-- COLDPLAY ARE A WEIRD BAND. It is that simple. After hearing AOAL, I thought to myself: Listen to Midnight, Major Minus, Spies, Politik, Kingdom Come, Yes, or HLH back to back and then AOAL. What other band experiments with so many genres? I mean, on AHFOD, we are getting Noel Gallagher and Tove Lo on the same album... modern great Beyonce and classic great Merry Clayton. WTF?! And all the while we have hindi/Indian influences from Rumi Poetry with a chilean album artist that does bizarre psychedelic photo cut outs? This makes me really excited actually. Yes, the Coldplay that I will always love from 2000-2008 is now a shadow, but this is some exciting new territory. Plus, there is the potential for some bizarre tracks on this record, Colour Spectrum and Kaleidoscope easily could be experimental tracks. Every Coldplay album has to have at least one "darker" track too. So I am really hopeful for a VLV/MX part two that is a dancy, fun, and just a pure exploration of different flavors and influences. That should leave something for all of us to enjoy. One worry: What if some of these deeper cuts are like MX and are really short? What if Colour spectrum is just a 1-minute ambient track that opens for UP&UP? I really hope not....

She has a good voice. Not a fan of her music though. Should be interesting. Not very fond of this title though haha
  15. My Final Review: Goods: Adventure of A Lifetime finds Coldplay reinventing their sound once again while conveniently hopping on board with a recent surge of disco and dance nostalgia in the pop music world. The song still sets itself apart from the pack, however, with a sharp guitar riff and Hindi inspired samples. The drums are sparkling and diverse, and the bassline is probably one of the most surprising we've got from Guy. Chris delivers some ho-hum lyrics, but despite their simplicity I find the song to be quite meaningful within the pop spectrum. In total, this track has tons of layers and great production and even if it isn't the direction some of us wanted, it still feels like a group effort. Bads: There are a few moments where Stargate comes through with some pretty blaring pop music tropes in the backing synth track, and that can be frustrating. And other have pointed out, even on BBC2, that Chris' woo hoo's are getting old. The song is fun and dancy, but as a single it might wear itself out too soon due to its reliance on a single, repetitive riff. Nonetheless excited to see how this fits into the album both conceptually and musically. Final Score: 8/10
  16. So like many of us predicted this album is going to be the definitive dive into Pop music it looks like. Obviously every song can't sound like AOAL, so this leaves more questions than answers. What will other singles sound like? Rock or sheer pop? What will the deeper cuts sound like? Where the hell is Beyonce, Noel, and Merry Clayton? WHY TOVE LO?
  17. Whoa....just. Whoa. I like this. It is pretty damn commendable that Coldplay would make a song like this. Very Daft Punk, bordering Maroon 5, but way better. I mean, it isn't perfect. It suffers from a few pop production tropes that I am not happy about (DAMN CLAP TRACK, Stargate Synths and Chris goes full out pop diva). BUT This isn't a standard structure pop song. The lyrics are cheesy and repetitive but I think really well though out and meaningful, so I forgive them. And the riff is awesome. Very obvious this song was pieced together carefully cuz the guitar riff doesn't perfectly carry over into the verse, BUT THE BASS AND DRUMS. One of Will and Guy's best songs. So i am going to bed. Final Thoughts for now: not perfect, wish it was more alternative but a really solid single and commendable that they would do this.
  18. ugh one more hour.... that is 1am for me...not sure what to do. Morning surprise? Or will i even be able to sleep when it is so damn close?!
  19. It is 1245 am for me and i usually go to asleep around midnight....probably going to just sleep and wake up early. Don't want to get too jazzed and stay up all night! But guys! A DANCY COLDPLAY SONG!? This is something we have never heard from them at all. A completely new style potentially. Groovy too! Super anxious to see how that turns out and what genre of music it fits into best: pop, alternative pop, electronic pop, post-punk. Who knows!
  20. ^^From Game of Thrones Musical Referring to Tyrion who survives all seasons (still going strong) Youtube rednose day Coldplay and watch the musical. Its in there.
  21. This snippet is very alternative sounding. PLEASE LET THE REST OF THE SONG SOUND LIKE THIS
  22. Whoa!! Is this the single that our Coldplayer's heard?!?! It sounds like that is going to be a sick drop. I am all ready to dance and then the video ends :( Classic drop though and I love it. The funky guitar and the sudden drop. The weird background vocals remind me of Arcade Fire's Reflektor album.
