  1. Haha such a divisive album. But I totally get it. True Love really isn't for me...but I gotta say that I love Ink. It is so stupid and catchy.
  2. Loving the positivity on this thread BUT Up In Flames is the dullest piece of music that has ever emerged from this band. I can hardly stand the instrumental!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. HLH, amazing.... Great transition from Viva era..rest of album..not so much
  4. You need to study with the instrumentals :sneaky: I have been intensely researching Russia's position on Climate Change for the past three hours with this!
  5. YASSSS the end of Viva with the accordion into Solid Ground into Violet Hill. This truly is one of the best albums of all time! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (if that was actually what was released.)
  6. WIthout Chris, you can hear Jonny's atmospheric guitar on every track so much clearly! Wow. Just amazing. This album is way more shoegaze than I originally assumed. I WANT MOAR
  7. And here it is my friends, Coldplay's best song and therefore best instrumental: 42 :DDDDDDDD
  8. COldplay's best songs are clearly the ones that don't need Chris' vocals to wreck you :) so pretty much all of them
  9. I agree with this too. Every album has lyrical bright spots, some more than others. AROBTTH and Viva had the most diversity in my opinion, whereas MX, X&Y, GS, took lyrics to the most simplified level possible. I am not saying that all of the lyrics are bad on these albums..in fact some of my favorite lyrics come from White Shadows, HLH, DLIBYH, Magic. I guess the point I am trying to add is that Chris is the master of pop songs about overcoming sad feelings for gleeful happiness and I love that so I hope they always do it. "Can't get over you, Still I call it Magic." or "I'm a dream that died by light of day." "go on and tear me apart, I don't care if you do" All of these lyrics are poppy and simple but quite powerful. I think AHFOD is going to have the best lyrics since Viva. I am definitely expecting some really crappy, universal abstractions about sadness or depression but then joy. But Viva had those too. I don't know. just my prediction. I could be completely wrong and this Q review definitely didn't seem impressed by the lyrics.
  10. Sorry if this is thinking too far ahead--but is anyone else stoked about the possibility of an EP or just a few B-Sides for this era?? I feel like their b-sides usually represent the more skeletal, less produced material/demos they were messing with before the final product came out. For GS, that was the angsty All Your Friends and folksy alt-rock of Ghost Story...so take the B-sides, layer the production, add better melodies, and make it poppier, and you have an A-side. It sounds like AHFOD is taking on some crazy influences, so the question becomes this: If there are B-sides that are less poppy, more skeletal, what do they sound like? Hindi-rock? Psychedelic rock or electronica? Funk or Classical??? These are things I wanted in the first place soI would be ecstatic if we got an EP from this thing next year.
  11. ^"para-para-paradise" doesn't read too well either, but I like the way it sounds haha
  12. This is just one person's perspective. I suspect that the sounds will be blend of the last few albums with some new twists, but overall this review leaves me optimistic. I usually need to read at least five reviews of an album before I get a sense for it. Some reviewers have natural tendency to not like Coldplay lyrics even when I do. Some praise them as a great rock band while others just compare them to radiohead and call them crap. It really just depends. I am really hoping this is the most consistent score for this album, though.. Hopefully a 7.5-8/10 on metacritic. That would put it in the range of Viva and AROBTTH but ahead of MX, GS, and X&Y. If this album can just be on X&Y's or MX's level then I will be really content. At the time, I was disappointing with MX because it had two tracks I didn't like. Now i have got to the point where I am okay with a few duds, I just have come to expect that...
  13. ^Indeed. We haven't heard the track yet. Yes, we now know it is an explosive club stomper, but we don't know what that entails musically. Obviously they are not going to make a song that sounds anything like Turn Down For What or Flo Rida haha. The only thing we can really expect is a repetitive dance beat and probably some heavy bass. Everything else is on the table. Who knows! Could be the next VLV or Clocks!
  14. Rolling Stone thoughts: Chris says that this album isn't rock but what does that really mean? If we know anything about Chris by now it is that he says a lot that never ends up being true. These guys are still a quartet and all samples/hints of the album suggest guitars, drums, and bass will be present. Let's not fret you guys, I think there will still be some rock sounds even if they dive into other genres. I also feel like this article confirms Kaleidoscope is the spoken word track (poem reading) :disappointed: The article says it is psychedelic and frankly, the title of the song suggests that too. Plus it is dead center in the album meaning it would be a good place for a breather. So maybe two minutes of instrumentation with poem reading? This really disappoints me. I love that title, and I think since Color Spectrum is also going to be an interlude. This means that my two favorite tracks names will be minuscule... Not cool.
  15. Everglow getting an official single release tomorrow!? I can't think of any other reason, but a ballad doesn't seem like a single to me... I would rather have Hymn for the Weekend too, but frankly if that song is ASFOS 2.0 then I would rather hear it last hahaha
  16. ^I somewhat agree with you. What is interesting is that Chris says that on MX, GS and now AHFOD, they have stopped caring and worrying about their sound and just letting their influences take over. I am not sure what to think of this. For one, that is great for them and hopefully they are happy and having fun. That certainly reflects in AOAL. But letting the influence of Avicii into an alternative rock song doesn't sound very good... I almost feel like the angsty, more worried Chris Martin wrote the more beautiful, critically acclaimed songs... So deep inside my selfish self wishes Chris would start worrying about critics a lot again and start experimenting with cool melodies and different genres like they did with Viva or plunge into heavy themes like they did with AROBTTH... But on the other hand, perhaps this idea of embracing everything and having fun will pay off with some really exciting and beautiful music too that we haven't heard from Coldplay yet...I don't know. I am torn. But the fact that you can see Coldplay's metacritic drop is interesting and hopefully will not persist. (arguably it is hard for a band like Coldplay to get as much respect as they used to, however, which might account for lower scores on their records)
  17. ^Well said. Reading this article didn't necessarily turn me off. I think this album is going to be better than we are expecting. Hymn for the Weekend is going to be super interesting I think. I can already tell I am either going to absolutely hate it or love it haha. Frankly, I love Turn Down For What, and I love club bangers, but that just doesn't make me think of Coldplay. Plus I love Beyonce and I love the ideas of choirs and hymns so this could be one of the more interesting pop songs of the year! Really looking forward to it, just praying it isn't ASFOS #2. And I totally agree. I haven't adored the last two albums either, but I still like them a lot and love most the tracklisting. If AHFOD has one or two duds then I am okay with that. We have already gotten 2 songs and I love both of them so that is a good sign....
  18. If inspired by Flo Rida, that is the most thing i have ever heard... Truly one of the worst hip-hop artists of our time and even a worse pop artist. Every one of his hits has been a really sh*tty remix of a classic 80's song. Blech.... Hope this is a joke.. Still really excited to hear this song though: we know its going to be radio friendly and possibly a club banger, but then again, it has choirs and meaningful lyrics? Could be really good! But the question is whether or not it is actually a banger or not..and if so, then to what capacity? EDM, Dance Rock? Funk?
  19. That new Adele track is kinda dull (just my taste). I think that her new album isn't going to be as good as people are expecting and that Coldplay's will blow people away :D Also I am sure Coldplay had a ton of people in the studio for every song on this album. I don't think the woo hoo's are beyonce, but maybe a studio choir they had for another track or maybe their kids or friends they brought in. I am betting a bunch of songs have backing vocals like this.
  20. I think this song is getting a single release on Friday. Pure speculation but hear me out: We have already seen Amazon CD's advertising both AOAL and HFTW which means that they are both singles AND that they both will be hyped up tracks BEFORE the album release. This Friday will be two weeks before the album release and two weeks after AOAL release. To me this would make perfect sense and would potentially get more attention as a Beyonce track and more hype build up (which frankly I don't think AOAL has done very well here in the US. still haven't heard it on radio.)
  21. I don't want this but I bet they will tour with Tove Lo partially. I imagine that Rihanna could get on that ticket as well for a leg of the tour.
  22. Maybe the video isn't all apes? They could conceivably do motion capture and be a bunch of different things throughout the song: apes, aliens, trees, who knows? It looks like this video is just trying to be fun, like the band saying "why the hell not, lets give it a go." The environmentalist inside of me though hopes there is more of a message with the video.... As much as I love the Paradise video (which is adorable) I was surprised there wasn't some message about the endangered state of elephants. Also hoping the same for Finding Dory, the pixar film, next year. THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE AWARENESS ABOUT THE DESTRUCTION OF THE CORAL REEFS AND ECOSYSTEMS WORLDWIDE! Sorry. that is my tangent.
  23. Yes. I am already a big fan of UATW, but this melody (and its lyrics) are FAR more beautiful and powerful. I will be interested to see what this actually is... maybe it is everglow? Who knows. Either way, I want that melody and I want Chris on acoustic guitar again. Also hope it has this folky feel. The actual song could be far different sonically on the album...SO excited to hear these first couple songs. Typically Coldplay does their best in the first few songs on an album imo.
  24. That might have been there best performance of Yellow ever. That piano tho....
