  3. who wants to be first in making the 'Corbijn is well known for his work with a certain U2' claim?
  4. I've seen them at V and supporting U2, there's nothing like the random chant of 'happy birthday' to make me laugh!
  5. an_cat, why not just do both? I do. By the way, I don't suppose you have any of the Pop singles? The singles were mainly redone (possibly except for Discotheque). I have Please, I know that IGWSHA is very similar, do you have Last Night On Earth per chance?
  6. erm, I'm gonna guess that 'Til Kingdom Come counts as a BSide even though its on the album?
  7. it was just the singer's habit of jogging in the morning that gave them their name. I just saw them in Leeds a couple of days ago - they've finished up their album and it will be released in early January, preceded by a new single from it. I got a setlist signed by the band too, may be worth something come February!
  8. Although I believe that Coldplay aren't one of the strongest bands around, lyrically speaking, I don't really think that the best lyrics are ones that someone has 'tried' to make brilliant, they are an off-the-wall thing.
  9. I'm thinking Earl's Court probably
  10. expect a tour, probably towards the middle of next year.
  11. sorry m'dear, that's not the lineup, its just a poll of which band people would like to see headlining - but that would be a good lineup - new question, if all those bands/artists were present in 2007, which 3 do you think would be headliners? Stones, U2 & Pink Floyd?
  12. why yes, yes I did. (I'm not sure if that is a serious question or a sarcastic comment based on my long-stated dislike of the song. I'm going to assume the former) DISCLAIMER:- What follows is my opinion, if anyone calls me wrong I don't really care, as I won't listen to you. Feel free to disagree though: I strongly believe that this is the worst song Coldplay has ever commited to an album. The musical sense is non-existent for the first half, just a horrible organ noise, some lovely (!) synths, a couple of piano notes and a faded acoustic rythym. The voice of Mr Martin is cruelly ruined by his insistence of singing the whole song in falsetto. Falsetto has it's place, but it is drastically over-used here. Musically, the second part is an improvement, and the only part that makes the song listen-to-able, but it is an attempt at a U2 sound (which I have nothing against, Low and White Shadows use similar methods that pay off) that doesn't come off as well as a U2 song. However, the point I most take issue with the lyrics. These are so poorly, unimaginatively constructed that they seem to have come straight from a 5-year-old's "My first poetry" book, they are nothing but predictive cliche, words construed together so simply they have no real value. The first time I heard this song (actually, I didn't manage to listen to it all the way through for about the first 6 or 7 attempts), I found it was so easy to guess the second half of each line having just heard the first, there's no feeling or personality present here. There's more to right but it's late, I'm tired and trying to use sentences that are far too long. Good-night.
  13. I prefer Speed of Sound, for the sole reason that it isn't cliched rubbish.
  14. I can't see them doing two headlining slots in a row. I think U2 should probably do it, just as a one-off, even though that might ruin it a bit for many non-U2 fans, I concede. Radiohead would probably be the most obvious choice, they'll be touring next year I expect and that could be the ultimate culmination. About the headliner already booked, I'd be willing to make a guess that it's Kylie Minogue, what with her not being able to make this year's.
  15. 2/10 (sorry, can't stand the Bravery) Oasis - Slide Away
  16. sadly, Mr Reckoner, I agree with much of what you've said. I still believe they have the capacity of being a great, but Mr Martin will have to either get his feet back on the ground or at least write better songs with his feet off it.
  17. The Masses Against The Classes by the Manic Street Preachers
  18. :o I only have 169 U2 songs on my ipod (I have all their albums, plus whatever I can get off the Complete U2 on itunes), but I didn't know there was THAT much I was missing... I don't have bootlegs or anything, though. But I did just order a CD of my concert Tuesday off ebay! Hoping I'll hear myself :wink3:  Other than U2, my second artist would be Coldplay, I think... I've got 141 of theirs. I feel put to shame by your U2 collection though! *goes off to wallow in self pity* :P its all the albums plus various unreleased, demos, b-sides and rarities plus a variety of my favourite bootlegs.
  19. Mine, for example, is U2 and I have 1153 songs of theirs in iTunes, a total of nearly 4 days, which is the majority of my U2 audio although I do have a few DVDs too. Runner up on mine would be the Manic Street Preachers, with 377 tracks and 26 hours. This is not supposed to be some sort of competition, I'm just wanting to judge how 'badly' some people may get carried away in finding music from their favourite artist(s).
  20. /\ What he said, there's a petition running to get Muse or their management to release the filmed shows at Earl's Court last December. Whilst I tend to avoid petitions, as each one makes the value of internet-petitioning less valuable, I did add a line to this one. http://www.petitiononline.com/sy6y8462/petition.html ps: bart, I have the DVD ;)
  21. I should at least download a free song to see what its like but, to be honest, they have such a bad band name, I don't think I will
  22. I can never decide between the two in that debate. I suppose I do, I pick Everything Must Go in polls but they are two albums from different ends of a spectrum, a Joshua Tree / Achtung Baby! conundrum if you will. In my opinion Everything Must Go is better musically but The Holy Bible has more meaning to me. (ps: may have pointed this out before, but praise too for the Turin Brakes lyric quote BDG)
  23. righty then The Results Thus Far! I have too much time......................... scoring system is as follows: - First 5 songs on each ranked list score points - Favourite song scores 5, second favourite scores 4 and so on............. simple enough eh? The number in brackets is the number of no.1 votes the song has. the list then: 1. Fix You - 131 - (12) 2. White Shadows - 117 - (9) 3. Square One - 93 - (6) 4. X & Y - 72 - (4) 5. Talk - 68 - (4) 6. A Message - 66 - (8) 7. Swallowed In The Sea - 61 - (4) 8. What If - 48 - (3) 9. Low - 46 - (1) 10. The Hardest Part - 42 - (1) 11. Speed Of Sound - 36 - (1) 12. 'Til Kingdom Come - 34 - (2) 13. Twisted Logic - 26 - (1) :/ Surprise, surprise, Fix You came out top. The two results that I was intrigued by was X & Y's high placement and the fact that, despite only being 6th, A Message had 8 no.1 votes. (I spotted two duplicate lists so took the newest from each. If anything's wrong though, don't sue me) now I have to go do something constructive (like sleep)
  24. 1. 'Til Kingdom Come (9/10) 2. Square One (8) 3. Low (8) 4. Talk (8) 5. Square One (8) 6. A Message (7) 7. Twisted Logic (6) 8. What If (6) 9. Speed Of Sound (6) 10. The Hardest Part (5) 11. X & Y (4) (Haven't listened to this one as much as the others though, I must admit) 12. Swallowed In The Sea (3) 13. Fix You (2)
