LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
So, I finally gave in and listened to Everglow (not the full leaked album, though). Here are my thoughts: I agree with every single comment about the song being like an improved Up In Flames. The production is similar but thankfully the electronic drums aren't annoying. The lyrics are better, the vocals sound better, everything sounds better. I hear some Magic in Everglow except this time they went for more of a piano ballad. Jonny has a solo towards the end (yay!) and overall the song could've fit very well on GS. It feels more natural than most of that album, though, and isn't so artificial. I'd take it over all but maybe 3-4 GS tracks. Gwyneth's "Heys" don't bother me (though the extent her contribution should've been made clear beforehand) and even though my hopes for the album's overall production are fading fast, I don't believe Stargate ruined this track. I am pleasantly surprised that I enjoy Everglow. :) I like it enough that I'd rate it about an 8.5 out of 10. My current ranking: 1. Up&Up live version (9/10) 2. Amazing Day live version (8.5/10) 2. Everglow (8.5/10) 3. AHFOD live version (8/10) 4. AOAL (7/10)

Birds (Song and Video out now Jan 2) pg 17 for Vid
Aww :( That was absolutely beautiful, and there's a good chance we will never hear it again unless they play UATW on the AHFOD tour and haven't forgotten it.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I think one of the first interviews/articles about AHFOD a few weeks ago said the band would be back in the studio next year. As someone who is staying away from the leak and reading the reactions, I'm not sure an EP is a good idea... maybe it would have less pop fluff and more experimental stuff that was left off the album, but that's only wishful thinking.

Me too. The only thing that would get me to listen to the album now is an iTunes First Play stream, similar to what they did with GS.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
The site was down for hours and I initially thought "Come on, how could the AOAL video cause this?!?" Then out of curiosity I checked Has It Leaked? and sure enough there was AHFOD: leaked and on top of the trending list. I'm staying away, though... for me, leaks are fun because of the chaos that surrounds them but I prefer to listen to an album when it is first intended to be listened to. Besides, I'm sure it's too late now to find a good link that hasn't been taken down.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Trying... so... hard... to resist... It doesn't help that I just downloaded the song and now it's right in front of me, practically begging to be listened to.

If there's one thing I really do like about Ghost Stories and Mylo Xyloto, it is their cohesiveness. The transitions from True Love to Midnight and Oceans to ASFOS are very well done. UFO to Princess of China and DLIBYH to Up With the Birds are great too. I hope AHFOD has more of those kinds of moments where one song bleeds into the next...

Everglow
The lyrics from the "Everglow Lyrics Decrypted" thread give me hope for this new track. I like their general style and even though I've seen far better, they aren't too repetitive and they aren't too cheesy. The Ghost Stories comparisons make me a little concerned, but I have a feeling I will enjoy Everglow when I finally do listen to it.

Everglow
Strong instrumentals do compensate for weaker lyrics for me, though. Midnight has very repetitive lyrics but their underlying message and the actual music are together one of the best things I've ever heard from Coldplay. Similarly, AOAL has slightly repetitive lyrics that mostly could've been written by somebody else but I can't help enjoying the song more and more over time. Both AOAL and Midnight are unique in their own way.

Everglow
Exactly! I view the Coldplay of MX-present this way: as a band that has evolved into the pop realm. There are many recent songs that I like, because there is a certain part of their identity that they've held onto, but few newer tracks fall into the category of songs that I consider "truly great." I agree, lyrics have been lacking. When I listen to Square One and then ASFOS, I can't help but feel underwhelmed. "Under the surface trying to break through / deciphering the codes in you" has become "'Cause you're a sky, 'cause you're a sky full of stars / I wanna die in your arms." The cool imagery and cryptic message so often found in older songs is gone. As musicians I (usually) accept their change in direction but the good lyrics are hard to come by.

Everglow
I guess I'm an Oldplayer simply because I prefer the Coldplay from LP1-LP4, but I'm not the fiery kind. I wish there wasn't such division between fans over it. If you like True Love or ASFOS, then that's cool. I may dislike both songs but you just see strengths that I don't see and I see weaknesses that you don't see. That doesn't make either of us "right" and it certainly doesn't make either of us more or less of a fan. That kind of talk is ridiculous. I haven't listened either, but I'm very tempted right now... ughhhh I don't know if I can last a week, maybe I'll listen only once!

The Colour Spectrum snippet does sound a bit Indian-inspired, but I do wish the actual music could have a bit more of that vibe.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I listened to the full interview. but I'm not listening to Everglow until the full album is released. 4 new songs are enough for me. ;) I want the experience of hearing most of the album for the first time on release day.

Everglow
I purposefully didn't listen to Everglow when it came on, just to leave another new track to discover when the album is released, but now the temptation to listen is really great... Is it worth listening to now? By the way, Zane Lowe should be the only person allowed to interview the band, because nobody does it as well as him! :)

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
My guess is that HFTW will make a splash in the charts at least as big as ASFOS. If the record label really wants some strong early sales, which is what they probably do want, now is the time to release HFTW.

===The ultimate Oldplaying Thread===S, BS, TBR, P, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, PM===
I prefer the studio version of Talk but it's interesting to hear a more electronic arrangement, more reminiscent of Computer Love. I would like to hear a full live performance of this rather than an abbreviated version... GPASUYF sounds great too. I really hope they can find some other way to play the song on the new tour. Maybe they should try an acoustic version with just Chris until the bridge. It would be really calm... almost Parachutes-esque. Just Chris, his guitar, and maybe Will singing backing vocals. Then, it quickly builds to the crazy rock outro we are used to. :D

^ That is especially impressive given that album sales have been on a steady decline for more than a decade due to streaming, iTunes, etc.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
According to Billboard, GS sold 383,000 copies in its first week! Edit: never mind, not sure why I said GS did better than 25.
