I just want to start out by saying I'm not advertising/selling anything, just looking for an honest opinion. I'm thinking about selling my Macbook so I can buy one of the newer ones. Problem is, I haven't sold anything of this much value before, so I was wondering if anyone had some idea what it is worth. The Details: Black Macbook (Late 2007) 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 1 GB RAM 160 GB HDD OS X Leopard iLife '09 (pre-installed) iWork '09 (no CD) Microsoft Office 2008 Adobe Photoshop CS4 (no CD) Final Cut Express (no CD) It's in pretty good shape for a 2+ years old computer. No scratches on the screen/dead pixels, no cracks, no discoloring. However, the…

Republican Senate candidate Linda McMahon left her job as chief executive of WWE to run for office. And a spokesman for Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz said McMahon is so closely associated with the organization that wrestling garb could easily be construed as political advertising. "It's not that much of an inconveni…

Charlotte Hodgman talks to Owen Davies about nine places associated with the witch hunts that saw hundreds put to death across early modern Britain. From Hollywood to Harry Potter, witches have been viewed with macabre fascination for centuries. But behind the stereotypical broomstick-flying hag lies a dark history of trials, persecution and torture that claimed the lives of hundreds of men and women. The 16th century was a time of religious upheaval caused, in part, by the Protestant Reformation and the Catholic Counter-Reformation. As the aftershocks of religious division extended across Europe, fear spread that the Day of Judgment was nigh. Catholics viewed the …

The Gruffalo is the favourite book of children and parents alike, according to a survey. For a book which was first published just 11 years ago, it has won a cherished place on the nation's bookshelves. So why does it strike such a chord? Life can be scary, life can be dangerous. All sorts of threats lie in wait for you, even if you have done nothing wrong. Should you manage to get yourself out of one dangerous spot, another worse one might be in store for you. And that most frightening thing you can possibly think of? It might come true. At first sight this might seem to be unlikely territory for a modern classic for the under-fives, though perhaps better suited to…

The elegant writing style of novelist Jane Austen may have been the work of her editor, an academic has claimed. Professor Kathryn Sutherland of Oxford University reached her conclusion while studying 1,100 original handwritten pages of Austen's unpublished writings. The manuscripts, she states, feature blots, crossing outs and "a powerful counter-grammatical way of writing". She adds: "The polished punctuation and epigrammatic style we see in Emma and Persuasion is simply not there." Professor Sutherland of the Faculty of English Language and Literature claims her findings refute the notion of Austen as "a perfect stylist". It suggests, she continues, that…
