I was thinking... after the engine & driveline losses, braking is 40%, tires are 27%, aerodynamics is 20%, and accessories are 13%. So, an electric needs to focus on that which remains, and lets see-- regenerative braking could recapture half or more of the 40%. Lighter weight or lift components could lower rolling friction by maybe 7%.. Aerodynamics could be doubled pretty easily, reducing the loss to 10% or less, and accessories - better windows and insulation, plus a solar canopy would about halve that as well..

Of the engine and driveline, that's 85% off the top before any of the above, so really all the above stuff is what's left to save of the 15%. So, electrics really can save a wallop of energy! But for long trips, nobody would settle for a pure electric.. hmm I think that free piston generator idea makes a lot of sense as an efficient way to make electric for a pure hybrid design..
