It's about the money.

that would really suck if that's the case. But why? they don't have to turn commerical for more money, they would only be ruining themselves. Ah well, mabey then it's all finally taken over them.

you're not a real Coldplay fan if you think that way

hello "Made Trade Fair" is about the world :D

A "Real" Coldplay Fan I am....But the reason I also think it's possible for this to happen is that they are in fact, human.

Who are you to say wherever I am a real fan or not? I think realistically. Bands are in it to make money, Coldplay is one of them.

I expected people to bash my earlier post... maybe I shouldnt care about Coldplay on the OC. I just remember the band saying back in the Parachutes-era that putting a song in a movie or TV show would be cheating the fans who bought the record

i don't think that placing a song on a TV show 'devalues' the track or the meaning it has for people, certianly this isn't the case with a movie. You're right about Garden State, that's such a lovely way for the movie to open. I rememeber the 'outro' to A Rush Of Blood To The Head was used for the end credits of Six feet Under once and that was real effective too. Selling to ads is something I think the guys will never do, they've always stood by that point

I can agree with that. It's just the O.C has had it's habit of trying to get every band that is not "main stream" for their own exposure of having taste in undiscovered music.....it's annoying. And it doesn't help that it's a crap show!

I'll admit that putting the song in OC is kinda devaluing it. The OC is just some stupid teen show about love. If the show was good, the song would be much more powerful there like in Six Feet Under. AROBTTH was the perfect choice for that episode and it sent chills down my spine. I dont think that will happen with the OC but none the less I just want to hear the song. Just a little tease will do me good. The album is under a month away and right now I will take anything I can get. Overall I am pleased with them putting that song in the show. Hopefully it is as good as I've heard.

1) I don't agree that the OC is a "stupid teen show about love".

2) Since watching the OC I have discovered so many bands I previously had never heard of or taken the time to listen to.

In terms of music it's one of the best shows to illustrate the musical tastes of so many young people today. And by playing Coldplay's song on such a popular show as the OC I hope it will inspire a new generation of Coldplay fans to listen to more of their music.

Okay' date=' I hate to be another downer.... but seriously... seeing my all time favorite band on the OC in fucking heartbreaking. The reason I love Coldplay is because they are unique. Their music means something. It is sincere. To appear on the OC brings them closer to the pop culture mess that I once thought they could fix. Maybe its different for Americans, because most people who are complaining are from America. Pop culture here is probably worse than anywhere else and thats why Coldplay fans from America cringe when they hear that the band will have music on this show. Saying that all bands sell their music is not a good defense, because, as I think we can all agree to, coldplay is not just another band. They should have more integrity.[/quote']

watch from outside is very easy

also is very easy to judge artists but you don't know the circunstances and why they've put their song in the o.c.

god. if it disturbs you guy this much don't listen to fix you on the o.c, do not buy the new album.

Very well said. I don't watch the OC, but I am familiar with the type of music they play on that show. I have some of the sdtks downloaded. Knock the show all you want people, but you LIKE the music they play on it. And Coldplay on it, is good for the band.

Just because everyone here shares the same love and respect for a wonderful band like Coldplay, does not mean we will all agree with everything that they do! And in saying that, to answer again "a real coldplay fan" ---these guys are human...they have or will make mistakes along the way!

It's about the money.

My two cent's worth... I'm not even sure that the OC pays the bands (or their labels) for their songs - since so many new upstart bands are on the OC. In fact, it's more likely that the bands pay them to be featured in the show...

My opinion? It's a win-for-all situation... The extra exposure wouldn't hurt Coldplay (as someone pointed out, it might even widen their audience demography) since the OC does play pretty good songs by credible bands although the show itself may be sh*t, fans get to hear the band's new material early, X&Y gets more hype, the OC of course benefits by being linked to Coldplay and gets more credible. So what's not to like?

IMHO, the band has not sold out... Financially, I don't think they stand to gain much in any direct way (anything they may be paid would be a pittance compared to what they'll be getting from selling this album; moreover people who will buy X&Y would first have to think they like the album anyway- they are unlikely to just buy the album solely based on some 30 second clip on some TV show)

Come on guys, be more charitable... Think of it as the band helping out a middling show become more creditable, AND introducing more people to the wonderful world of Coldplay (I know I'm certainly thankful to have found our little band) :D

i love the oc. it's good tv. i think you all are making the fact that coldplay is allowing the show to sample 15 seconds of one of their songs into a much bigger deal then it is.

i'm sure the show will use it in an interesting context. it's not like just thrown in there.

coldplay giving the oc the chance to sample one of their songs is not them selling out, it's them getting people excited and talking and interested and yes, making a bit of cash while they are at it.

considering how many offers coldplay has gotten from huge companies like coca cola, gap, nike, and adidas i think we should be pretty proud of the guys for not giving up their music to just anyone. obviously they see something positive about the oc sampling 'fix you'.
