Perennial loudmouth Liam Gallagher has launched another verbal attack on Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, calling him a ‘knobhead student’ for restating his anti-war views at Coldplay’s Teenage Cancer Trust benefit show on Monday.

 

Speaking after his guest performance with Richard Ashcroft at the Royal Albert Hall, Liam accused Chris of speaking out about the wrong subject. He told The Sun:

 

"When Coldplay did this gig they banged on about the war, that's wrong. Chris Martin shouldn't be using this cause to bang on about his own views on the war. If him and his gawky bird want to go banging on about the war they can do it at their own gigs.”

 

He further added: “That lot are just a bunch of knobhead students - Chris Martin looks like a geography teacher. What's all that with writing messages about Free Trade on his hand when he's playing. If he wants to write things down I'll give him a pen and a pad of paper. Bunch of students.These gigs are about kids who have got cancer, they've got to fight a war every day of their lives. That's what we're all here doing this for”.

I THINK LIAM WAS RIGHT AND WRONG AT THE SAME TIME. RIGHT CUZ I THINK ARTIST SHOULDN`T STUCK THEIR NOSES INTO POLITIKAL (HEHE 'K') SHIT SINCE THEY`RE NOT POLITICIANS ( :( NO 'K') AND THEIR THING IS TO MAKE MUSIC OR MOVIES OR WHATEVER AND NOT TELLING OTHERS THAT THE WAR IS BAD BECUZ EVERYONE KNOWS IT IS BUT SOME PPL (LIKE ME FOR EXAMPLE) THING THAT THE WAR WAS NEEDED TO GET RID OF THA REAL KILLER (SADDAM THAT IS). AND LIAM`S WRONG BECUZ CHRIS DOESN`T LOOK LIKE A GEOGRAPHY TEACHER (GEOGRAPHY IS MAH FAV SUBJECT!) AND WHAT THE HECK HAS FREE TRADE TO DO WITH CANCER GIG? I MEAN CHRIS SUPPORTS MAKE TRADE FAIR AND FUCK OFF LIAM IF YOURE SUCH A JERK AND DON`T GET IT SHUT YOUR MOUTH (OOPS THAT WAS A BIT HARSH). AND BESIDES, CHRIS IS RICH ENUFF TO PURCHASE A PEN AND A SHEET OF PAPER SO HE DOESN`T NEED YOUR HELP.

i don't know if the cancer benefit concert was the right place for chris to speak out about the war, but i don't think he has no right to say anything.

 

everyone has a right to say what they think about the war. it's just there's a time and a place for it. i'm glad celebrities speak out about different issues. if it wasn't for chris, i wouldn't have known about make trade fair.

 

i don't think liam should have attacked chris the way he did. why did he have to mention gwenyth at all? i do understand why he would be upset though. boo-urns.

Personally, I just LIKE Chris Martin - I don't care what he says about the war, or making trade fair, or anything else. I BELIEVE in him and trust his judgement, even if it's not perhaps what I would say or do or sign up to. He decides what he's going to say, and at least he's nice enough and well-mannered enough not to slag off other people like Liam does. Coldplay are the tops, they are lovely, sweet-natured guys. You can't really say that about Liam Gallagher ....

Anyway, I think Liam might be right in part because Chris in a way changed the course of the cause by speaking of a totally different one... That might be annoying. But on the other hand, he shouldn't have been so rude (well asking politness to Liam is like a waste of time, I know...), everyone has the right to speak whatever they want whenever they feel like doing it.

I think it's a good thing that artists involve themselves in the causes they believe in, either by speaking, by creating, by making and being art.

I remember a verse on a poem by Spanish writer Gabriel Celaya 'I damn the poetry of those who don't take part, part until getting dirty'. I really agree on those words.

the minute the word "knobhead" escapes from liam gallagher's lips, anything he was saying or had already said immediately lost credibility with me. when he can learn to actually express a valid opinion without resorting to childish name calling, then maybe i'll start caring what he has to say.

The way he said it was wrong but I agree with what Liam said. I don't think that artists have much of a right to talk about politics, I mean they are entitled to their own opinions as we all are, I just don't think artists should talk about things they don't know much about.

Just for the record, Liam was talking privately to a friend when he made those comments. Imagine everything you've said off-hand about someone was plastered all over the media.
