Ahh quit hating people.. that's a good list. They have Achtung Baby, which I prefer to Joshua Tree, anyway. Everyone of course has different opinions and will want/not want certain albums, but overall it's pretty good.

 

Only it's missing Coldplay, but they'll get there :cool:

First thing: good question about The Joshua Tree.

 

Second thing: I think that Parachutes and Rush of Blood weren't on the list because they weren't really complete albums in the sense of classics. Don't get me wrong, Parachutes is probably one of my ten favorite albums of all time... but it's not a "classic" album in the way that albums like "Achtung Baby" and "OK Computer" were. It's classic to all of us, but the fact remains that it was looked at by many people as... I think (in their review of Rush of Blood) Rolling Stone titled it as the whiny diary of a twentysomething... something along those lines. Anyway, that's how a lot of people looked at Parachutes and thus they're not super impressed. As for Rush of Blood, that was very much the stepping stone to X&Y, at least in my mind. Rush of Blood was as "incomplete" as Parachutes, just in a different way. It meandered too much and never really had that cohesive "sit down and listen to it straight through" feel. Again, I love this album, but to me it is the least "classic" of the three Coldplay albums. As for X&Y, give it time. Right now, we're all still on the post-release day buzz, for the most part. The album's been out for less than a month and has, of course, split the community. I personally think that in another 10 years or so (barring an even greater album release) X&Y will have a place on many people's Top 100 charts and probably a good one. The fact that it can go from being harder than anything they've done thus far (Square One & White Shadows) all the way to the other end of the spectrum (most clear example: 'Til Kingdom Come)... that makes it a "current classic" to me. However, the test of time is one that has not yet been passed... and I'll stop talking like Yoda.

List is pure crap. I see a lot of Radiohead so maybe the editors are like a few Radiohead fans we know, who cant stand Coldplay.

 

Any whoot, Rush Of Blood To The Head is gold and should be on that list.

I agree with Ok Computer being 1. It's the best album I've ever heard.

Because... let's face it... most of these albums (ie. Top 10) were quite revolutionary and influential in some way (yes, even Eminem's), whereas Coldplay hasn't (yet) made one yet.

You might not like some of the albums mentioned, but you can't deny its 'status'.

 

Sure, Coldplay have made 3 good albums, and many people like them for making beautiful music, but I don't think any of the albums can be called 'influential'.. let alone 'revolutionary'.

 

I mean, Coldplay aren't often mentioned when an interviewer asks some celeb "which artist(s) and/or band(s) have influenced you to make this album". Yes, many may answer: "I dig Coldplay" or "They're a great band", but never "AROBTTH has inspired me to write this song and/or that album".

well, i kinda know what you're saying but maybe thats because all of Coldplay's albums were inspiring they can't just name one so to say Coldplay is easier than replying with 'Parachutes, A Rush Of Blood To The Head and X&Y have inspired me to make this album'

and tell me how the White Stripes, The Strokes, Weezer, Greenday and the Wu Tang Clan were more inspirational, influential and revolutionary than any of Coldplay's albums??? :confused:

I get your point. But I think sometimes a lot of the people don't realise how prevalent and "influential" Coldplay have become. The thing about them is they're not loud, therefore people don't tend to notice when they've been influenced. It's a subconscious thing. I think if Coldplay are around long enough and keep making quality music, one day people may look back and realise how much the band've shaped the musical landscape.

in Holland their was a top 100 albums and Coldplay was on the second place with AROBTTH and the 13th with Parachutes.........so this list is complete rubbisch........BTW the list was made by voting....so the list is the voice of us :wink3:

I like that list better (obviously CP is in it! lol) but you can tell it's not very diverse, musically speaking, there aren't many different genres. Just different types of music that can, for the most part, be labeled as some form of "Rock".

I think AROBTTH is a classic. Everybody knows it what's the diff from Parachutes, and it's a perfect album what's the diff from X&Y.

In time most likely, but they haven't shown anything that would lead me to say they've made anything classic. The Scientist, yeah will probably be on the oldies station fifty years from now, but will the band be remembered as "Wow, what an impact"? That remains to be seen!

I consider Parachutes a classic album, but not in the way that it broke any kind of barriers. It just did a phenomenal job at being what it was trying to be. But I don't think it will get much better than that for Coldplay after seeing the direction they're going with X&Y. Don't get me wrong, X&Y is a good album. But they're going down a road that's been traveled by tons of bands before them. Them putting up posters of U2 while recording X&Y pretty much sums it all up. They're going to be a great arena rock band.

Like them or not, The Strokes started the entire retro rock, indie explosion that is still going on today. Without the huge hype after the Modern Age EP, that just wouldn't exist. I think #100 is the perfect spot Is This It?

 

White Blood Cells brought the whole retro revival to a mainstream level.

 

Weezer was a breath of fresh air to the whining grunge movement that was going on in the early 90s. They suck now, though.

 

Wu Tang's Enter the 36 Chambers probably deserves to be much higher than where it was placed. I remember hearing that when it was first released and thinking that this was the new direction of hip hop. It was a revolution at the time it was released. Along with Illmatic, it is the most important hip hop album of the 90s.

i hate to say this but i agree... i used to think they could but X&Y is a big let down :/ if they just don't care about being BIG anymore and instead try to be the BEST :confused:
