I remember having discussed this with friends and explaining that, and getting furious everytime because they went

"Nooo.. There's only life here, on earth."

 

For all we know, there could be thousands of planets out there like earth. Scary thought. :/

Yes - I know what you mean - bacteria. The scientists reckon that a lot of new viruses arrive from outer space on meteorites etc.
