random. one of my friends came out to me yesterday. it was weird. well, maybe not weird i was so shocked. i never thought this person would be gay/lesbian.

Well like I was saying, why would you know? Gay people are exactly the same as everyone else, being gay doesn't change your personality.

THIS. is a really great point.

I sometimes wonder if the whole "flamer" thing arises as a direct result of being gay or if that's the psychological aftermath of it. In other words, is the lisp and weak wrist stereotype inculcated via observation of other gays/women?

Because gay people span the spectrum of masculine/feminine.

That's the point I was trying to make, they actually are the same so why give gay people special treatment.

All I ask for is true equality under the law. I can be fired for being gay in the state I live. I cannot get married in the country I live in. True equality is what I am fighting for. Not special treatment just human rights.

Yo Aaron how's it going? I decided to pay my sick grandmother a surprise visit...then I got back and THE NEW POSTS BUTTON WAS GONE so I refused to post anything. Now I'm here.

Good to have you back!

Truly great point. I am gay as gay can be however people usually cannot tell. I am very masculine. I don't talk with a lisp or anything like that. Gay people are as varied as straight people.

Just in case you didn't see it on the previous page Nathan:

Yeah that's fair enough, I sometimes forget how backwards America is.

Thanks man:)

People like to talk a lot of crap about Europe in this country but when it comes to human rights, Western Europe is typically ahead of the curve.

Take it down, geez. You should go to Hell for posting that.

:laugh3: I probably am...

Thanks man:)

Germany appears to be particularly cool about things like this, which is good.;)

You can be fired for being gay where you live? That is terrible!!!!!!!!!!

I had no idea company's still did that........

Not a fan of some aspects of the American government myself. Im sure alot of americans agree with me, and people outside of the states.

The pledge of allegiance is utter bullshit.

I worked at a camp this summer, and refused to say it during morning flags.

There is a lot of gay hate crimes in America, and im sure in other countries. There was one just a few years ago at my uni.

Hitler would be turning in his grave.

Good.;)

Well, we do have something like gay marriage. But I don't think that's really enough yet.

I remember a man who sued the former employer of his deceased husband, because they wouldn't pay him the widower's pension (sorry, I can't seem to find the right word here) which they normally paid to every spouse of a deceased employee.

He lost in court and the reason for that was that the judges felt that a marriage was primarily a constitution between a man and a woman that serves the procreation of mankind. Personally I thought that was a lame, very poor and erroneous reason.

There are many childless married couples and procreation happens outside of marriage too. And more important that man played the same important part in his husband's life that every wife plays in her husband's life.

That made me really angry, to be honest.

There are still some political parties who are willing to do whatever it takes to prevent the adoption law for homosexual couples from happening ... another point. I do think that Germany is more "progressive" when it comes to the rights of homosexuals, but true equality can only happen, when we stop thinking and judging in categories like homo- and heterosexual.

I'm just saying the German public in general have a very cool attitude when it comes to gays and lesbians, which is to be applauded.;)

Well, that's true. ;)

An anti-homosexual comment from a public person will be "awarded" with as many outcries as any racist remark these days.

Well that's definitely a step in the right direction anyway.

The first gay guy I met whom I sort of became friends with was living in Cologne at the time.

He was actually Spanish, and I didn't actually find out he was gay until months after we'd first spoken (he was a work colleague).;)

Well, you know I actually never understood how anyone can suddenly feel weird about a friend whom they found out is gay. The friend is still the same person he/she was the day before.

Very true indeed. It's completely irrelevant.;)

I like what you had to say here. At least in Germany, it appears that gay couples have a better chance of marriage.

Unfortunately in some states in America it happens:(

Is it legal? ... I'm kinda shocked ...

Well, gay marriage still is not the same as a heterosexual marriage. It is something, but I don't think it's ideal yet.

In Florida, where I live, there is no provision to protect gay people in the workplace. You can be fired for it. Many states, especially in New England and on the west coast have protections in place. And some states do provide full state recognized gay marriage. However, there are about 1800 federal benefits that are not granted to all gay people in the country.
