July 19, 200520 yr Are you kiddding? Are you even serious? Haha.... My friend, have you just returned from Mars???   I think the question should be how much bigger now are they than Oasis back in their heyday... :wink3:
July 19, 200520 yr Author they dont even have a number 1 single yet! both bands have followed similar patterns, brilliant first albums almost as good second, running out of ideas third. oasis still sell out stadium tours where as coldplay still had tickets left on second day of glasgow gig, i just wonder if they will ever catch up on album sales etc, all facts my friends!
July 19, 200520 yr Author waist size, no. 1's, total album sales, ticket sales after the 3 album mark for them both, i couldnt see coldplay ever pulling off a knebworth type effort? dont get me wrong i love coldplay
July 19, 200520 yr I think the question should be how much bigger now are they than Oasis back in their heyday... :wink3: No, don't be silly. I'd say they're the biggest UK band since Oasis, but they're not as big as they were and certainly not bigger. I don't think Coldplay could sell out 250,000 tickets for Knebworth Park in just a few hours. Definitely Maybe is the biggest selling debut album of all time, and Be Here Now is the fastest selling UK album of all time (around 750,000 in its first week, compared to around 400,000 for X&Y). If you're talking worldwide, then Coldplay are probably more successful in the US. But here in the UK, you really had to be here to believe how big Oasis were. They were massive. Larger than life. Absolutely fucking huge.
July 19, 200520 yr Author Oasis Coldplay No 1 Singles (After 1st single on 3rd Album) 3 0 1st Album 2.1m 2.1m Weeks at No 1 1 1 2nd Album 4.2 2.1 Weeks at No 1 10 3 3rd Album 1.8 ? Weeks at No 1 5 2? 3rd Album also failed to beat fastest selling album against Be Here Now Ticket Sales, I dont think we need to check the stats on that after Earls Court / Knebworth alone! There's the stats mate! serious question do you think they will ever be bigger?? as currently they are not! (Source http://rateyourmusic.com/lists/list_view?list_id=7481&show=50&start=50)

July 19, 200520 yr Coldplay are definitely bigger. I have never even heard Oasis played on the radio here. (I live in S. Florida)
July 19, 200520 yr I don't know about bigger. But Coldplay are certainly nicer than Oasis were. Not that means much.....
July 19, 200520 yr well, if you take numbers... Britney Spears is "bigger" than the two of them and that doesnt mean she is "better".. isnt? I think the big problem with Oasis is, despite they are a good band, the only influence they have is Beatles... all beatles.. .and you can´t buid a musical career with just that... But Coldplay has growing up with very different musical tastes (despite those who said that they are as Radiohead, which is an stupidity because Radiohead is beyond that, at least till this moment..)... and if they manage to do good albums after this.. well, they will be bigger than many other bands, besides Oasis... I dont know... but I think Coldplay is bigger than Oasis, not just for the numbers.. but just my humble opinion.. The boat behind: Zu
July 19, 200520 yr Coldplay are definitely bigger. I have never even heard Oasis played on the radio here. (I live in S. Florida) Same here. I live in Jersey and haven't heard an Oasis song on radio. Maybe in the UK Oasis is bigger, but here in the States, Coldplay is definitely bigger. No offense to all you people living outside of the U.S., but if you are big in the U.S., it doesn't really matter elsewhere. :P
July 19, 200520 yr i think coldplay is more famous then oasis and actully bigger then liam gallgher band's
July 19, 200520 yr if you are speaking worldwide Coldplay is bigger that Oasis. In the UK i'm sure coldplay won't ever be bigger than oasis were. Also, you cannot longer compare album or single sales. In the 90's when Oasis released their good albums, people did not download music. Also, if you are willing to join a Coldplay forum just to ask this question it means that you think that coldplay are a threat to Oasis' "graeatness"
July 20, 200520 yr I concur with my fellow Americans that Coldplay is indeed bigger in the states. In fact, most americans probably have either a.) never heard of oasis , or if they have b.) could not name one song that has been a hit, since it never was a hit here. On the other hand, almost everyone knows who Coldplay is. They are starting to rival U2.
July 20, 200520 yr thoughts? I think Coldplay are already bigger than Oasis in their peak. Well, not in the UK but definitely worldwide.
July 20, 200520 yr Author There are a lot more countries in the world than America!! Oasis are big in japan, australia all around the world! Oasis are reasonably well known in the states otherwise why would go and do sellout tours every album including Madison Square, and to be fair the yanks just listen to guff anyway, bit of country and western for anyone??? The stats figures show they are not bigger than at oasis peak, disregarding the download arguemant, if you go on ticket sales/concerts then its no contest. Buit everyone is misinterpreting my point, will continue to grow (U2, REM size) or have they peaked?? its not about who's better etc, every has there own taste on music and personally i like them both.
