Reilly in a sense, they led a new wave of punk in the early 90's. They were, in a sense, pioneers of a different type of punk/pop.

of course they aren't as influential as the sex pistols, but they helped make punk mainstream in the early 90's. (which of course, is the antithesis of the definition of punk)

To say they made a Punk movement is wrong, to say they made a Pop Punk movement is also wrong, there were many bands who came out before Green Day who sounded just like them (Most of these bands only had one successful song and then faded, but they were everywhere in 1990).

I'm not emo. i like emo music. im more prep then emo. and ive never had a girl break up with me either. lol

Reilly, but Green Day has longevity that these "other" bands from the 1990 era didn't have. I'm not even much of a Green Day fan but I think they deserve some respect.

reilly, you HAVE to admit, they played a major part in the progressions of punk. sex pistols and the clash would be the "pioneers" but green day made the genre more popular bar none!!

saying the line "rich preppy friends" once again leads me to believe youre bullshitting, and if it was a joke...then why post alleged comments from "HOT GIRLS" who said it looked "great"

 

and "not knowing much about preppy kids"...I went to private school my whole life in probably the most conservative, preppy environment imaginable. 100% of my peers are preppy, and once again ill be going to college in a similar place...yea most of my friends would easily run for the hills if they woke up with dyed hair

why not? you seem not ot know much about people. being as rich preppy people like black hair too. lol its not a emo or hardcore thing. i know plenty of wealthy people who have dyed their hair black, and some who do it to be funny. beleive what you may. i really dont care at all. ive grown up knowing rich preppy kids, i know some of the richest people around, its what ive always known.Dont be mad because some preppy girls like black hair. btw if your going by my picture, i dont usualy have straight hair, its curly all the time. if i came with straight hair like in that picture then most my preppy friends would laugh at me for a while. but it looks good when curly.

Im sorry but music shouldnt be about fashion. It should be about the music. Who cares what you wear? It should be "can you play?" or "Do you get the music?" You can wear whatever the hell you want, as long as listen to the music because you get it, not to fit into some stupid little group. I guess Im the only one who thinks that way now... Just be yourselves.

 

And Green Day basically came into the mainstream and made "punk" more accessible to people. They're really more pop now than anything. Thats not to say theyre not good, because they are. I enjoy most of their albums that they've put out. However, real punk died a long time ago.

 

And EMO and Punk are NOT the same thing. Please...go listen to some Sex Pistols and then listen to Dashboard. What blasphemy.
