And Nina' date=' I absolutly love the detail and depth of field on your first picture, I think I already added it as a favourite on Flickr! :D[/quote']

Thank you sooooooo much! :nice:

Right guys and girls, I need to use your excellent artistic opinions to help me with my photography exam, which is due this next week. As usual I've left it a bit late!! :D

Basically the theme is clouds, and i've decided to take a series of slightly unusual/abstract images of plants, looking up through them at the sky. I've got a few starter images below, but I'd love to know which ones you like, which ones you don't, and what I could do to develop this idea, because they seem a bit similar to me!

Here goes...

:D

:edit: sorry i didn't notice your question because of your pictures, they catched my attention, well actually i don't have an "excellent" artistic opinion but i think the 10 one is really good, of course we can see the clouds but the branches remind me of rain and we all know from where comes the rain, it gives me an impression of rain, and the branches look like ropes and French people say "il pleut des cordes" which means it's raining ropes...this is all i can do/see, i hope it ( but i think not really)

I can just tell you which ones catch my attention . . . More than the others . . .

10 and 11.

And for the 10 Ahlem has a good reply.

The 11 reminds me fireworks but I don't know if there is a link with your subject

I'm not an artist wait for others replies :P

Anyway great great pics though ;)

again. amazing portraits. Are they taken with a film camera? I love film cameras! Plus how do you take pics like the second one? I know i'm stupid

Wow. Jpw48, I just gotta say that you have done a really good job with that assignment. Very creative approach to the task. Since you asked for some help, I'll do my best to give you my oppinion.

Seeing as the theme is clouds, some of the photos really show this better than the others. You have picture 1, 10 and 11 which has sharp and clear clouds, while 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 12 and 14 show interesting clouds which are out of focus in the background. Lastly you have 3, 9 and 13 which doesn't really have that interesting clouds in the background. Seeing as the theme is clouds I think that they two first groups of photos fit the task the best.

When it comes to the combination of plants and sky I first of all have to say that I really like the result you have made here. The way the light shines through the plants is not something most people normally see, and having a collection of these photos like you have made here is beautiful. The photos that immediatly stand out to me are 1, 4, 6, 7, 10 and 12. I guess what really makes these more special is the composition of the photos. 1, 4 and 7 have the plants coming in from the bottom right which really works well. While 6, 10 and 12 are different and not something I've seen before.

I'm not sure exactly what I could recommend you to do to improve this. I think it is important that the sky is a big part of the photo, you should definetly try to take more where the clouds are sharp and in focus. The ones you took in this way really works well. Other than that I would like to see more special shapes like the multiple shapes from the plant in picture 7. Also I think it would be cool if the plants in picture 10 were pointing up to a special cloud or something, but I can see that that can be a problem. Oh, and the colours and contrasts in picture 1 was amazing.

Anyway, good luck with this. I really would like to see more pictures that you do for the final hand in.

They're so cool!! You could make storybooks for young children with illustrations like that!! :D

Awesome!

Do you use Adobe Illustrator by the way?

Close :laugh3: Adobe Photoshop

Thanks for all your help guys! Number 10 seems popular :D

You have no idea how awkward it was getting to the middle of that grass though!!! I have scrapes all over my arms and legs :laugh3:

Wow Bombadil, thanks so much, bet that took a while to write! :D

My original plan was to get all the clouds out of focus, like in the photo in my Sig. However, as the day progressed and the sun got brighter, these clouds were blending far too much into the background. The ones you mention above, 1, 10 + 11 were accidental in the fact the clouds were in focus, but now you mention it I've realised I actually really like the look of them! They also contrast nicely with the ones where the clouds are more out of focus.

I think the colours of the plants is a very important part of these images, and my final ones will reflect this. I love the contrast of the red of the Acer, the blue of the Bluebells and the green of the Fern with the rich summer blue sky.

On my way home I noticed my neighbour has a whole row of orange red and yellow tulips, might have to pop over there later for some more pictures! :D

When i've settled on my final pics, I'll pop them up here for you! If I ever manage to finish it! :laugh3: I really should spend more time doing that than on here fighting the Violet Hill haters! :P

Thanks again to all of you, you're help has been invaluable! Now, back to the endless research into dead people who also took pictures like this.... *yawn*

hehe don't know if it's even worth the post, but anyway, since it's taken me such a long time to do it(..lol a 2 days)...here it is:P

it's a school project:our arts teacher told us to build a little theater made of cardboard and to create a scenography for the first act of the Turandot an opera by Giacomo Puccini...probably you have no idea of what I am talking about...so I'll post you this extract:P

so,..the story is based in China and the main characters are the princess turandot and the prince who wants to marry her...really simple:P:P

so...here it is:P

No problem. Colours are definetly important.

I'll be looking forward to seeing the result of your neighbourhood bush photography.

Einar! I wish I had eyes like Kaya. Beautiful photos.

Bombadil, I love your human balloon concept!

nice pics, thinker!

I like Frans, her hair looks very cool. The lights, too, is classic

I think Eva herself is very stylish so the plain background is a very good idea.

'human balloon' is funny though(in a good way). He looked like a husband who scared of his wife. :P

warning: Dont take much of my opinion, I'm not professional

I like working with pen:

and abit of photoshoping

Haha, it's funny that you call it human balloon, because I have another series of photos with that theme.

The thought behind that photo above was "woman in control" sort of. Oh it's very deep ;)

Here is a photo from my "air head" series.

Airheadgetspopped.jpg

@Peng: I really like your drawing style. Very effective way to show something of. Keep it coming.

I like this air head one, funny and well-thought.

I draw from the magazine though, try to convert realistic to something cartoon-ny. I'll draw again very soon since I've got lots of free time at the moment :)

I dreamed about this entry of a cemetery for almost 13 times now, so I had to draw it^^

Friedhof.jpg

You have a very nice drawing style. Especially those plants impressed me, those are difficult to make realistic.

Anticipating the new coldplay songs a little too much, even dreaming about cemeteries? (of london)

That's impressive Thalia !

Well done ;)
