Which song sounds most "U2ish" to you?

Featured Replies

Well we all know what big fans they are of U2, and they seems to emulate their idols on songs (Hardest Part - REM, Talk - Kraftwerk, etc.), so what song resembles a U2 sound?

I could hear Bono and Co. doing Square One easy.

Low, me thinks

I don't think that Coldplay emulate U2 (or anothers bands), cause they have their own style, different from others.

In some sense it's true that they have some references of other groups. There are some songs that reminds me a little U2... but I think that they are an important band and they don't have to "imitate" no-one (well, this is my opinion)

About your question: I could hear Bono in Talk. :)

 I was going to start a topic just like this! Oh well, I guess I'll just add to it.

White Shadows is very U2-ish. It's extremely reminiscent of New Years Day, with a little bit of Where The Streets Have No Name at the end. Moses sounds a lot like In God's Country as well.

White Shadows too...mos def early U2ish

by the way, it's not to "imitate" but emulate - every band is influenced by another...there is nothing wrong with that

Yup. I think so too.

i couldnt see U2 doing square one, but yes i think low

Forget Coldplay sounding like U2. City Of Clinding Lights sounds like it could have beet penned down my Chris and Johnny. And considering it was made in 2004.....I think the influence goes the other way here. :P

mm.. talk or low..

the first version of the song 'talk' sounds like u2 to me

^i agree, plus moses..

Dunno, but the refrain of Don't Panic, (..we live in a beautiful world..) sounds really U2 I think :P With the guitar.

A Message is very U2ish :disguise:

You are entitled to your opinion, but you need to realize that there are no bands today who are not influenced by other bands. Just as Coldplay was influenced by U2, Radiohead and others, so was U2 influenced by Patti Smith, the Ramones and others. And on and on back to the Beatles and Elvis Presley. Coldplay, in turn, has influenced bands like Keane. No sound these days is completely original, because all bands owe credit to rock and roll's history.

While Coldplay may not intentionally say to themselves, "Let's make a song that sounds like U2," even they will even admit that they are fans of U2, and the influence of U2 on Coldplay and other bands is very apparent. I'm not saying at all that Coldplay is unoriginal (they are original, which is why they are so successful), but you can't deny where they came from.

In My Place has some nice almost Edge-like guitar.

And what about the guitar in Fix You...I always imagine Edge at that moment :o

yepp, that's true

i can't think of a song which (kinda) sounds like u2.

maybe 'careful where you stand'? i could imagine that song sung by bono ...
