The Beatles <- an influence on every genre under the sun not just rock

The Who <- one of the first classic rock bands i ever liked. easily the best live band ever.

Pink Floyd <- they have some classic rock songs but there is alot more to them than just that. they really perfected the art of making an album

Jimi Hendrix <-greatest guitarist of all time. NO ARGUMENTS

The Doors <- an awesome band and jim morrison can turn on a straight man

Jethro Tull <- dont know much

The Eagles <- didnt really achieve much aside from Hotel California.

America <- decent band

Creedence Clearwater <- a very interesting rock n roll story on how they got ripped off. a very talented group

Cat Stevens <- not exactly Bob Dylan but still a legend.

Rolling stones <- Biggest Rock Band of All Time. Forty Licks is the ultimate compilation

cream <- the band that made Clapton famous, that was the trend for most of his career

blind faith <- who?

derek and the dominos <- same story as Cream

METALLICA <- an incredible band, will be remembered as a great metal band but they've made some great genuine rock songs. Enter Sandman.

Pearl Jam <- the raw honest down to earth band you will ever come across. one of my favourites and deserve alot more than they get

Queen <- More glam rock than classic rock but hard to get past the brilliance of Freddie Mercury

Dire Straits <- a band i appreciate alot. awesome music

America? Sorry, but I don't think they are considered to be classic rock. They are considered to be more adult contemporary or easy listening than classic rock.

What's the definition of "classic rock." My classic rock station played Guns N' Roses the other day. I was like, "holy crap, that's now considered classic rock." Time sure flies.

as far as i know The Clash are clasified as Punk Rock, not Classic. :uhoh:

same happen here, at some point i don't see the difference of some genres... (classic rock / punk rock / heavy metal / hard rock).. :uhoh:

is not easy to explain which genre come from which genre, and so most of the times a band can't be clasified as just one genre as they have many influences, but i find it an interesting topic to talk about.

what makes to you a "classic rock" band?

how they have to sound?

which topics they should sing about?

and the same with each genre and sub-genre.

You are correct Ari, the The Clash are def punk they just melded for me the transition from classic to punk to alt . it was just part of my musical jouney and they really changed what i was listening to. thats why i put it on the end of the post, sorry i always have to go off topic and add my editiorial, hehehehe
