Ok.. nevermind I am dealing with children here.

^I hope you're kidding about comparing Radiohead to The Beatles!! :P

I wasnt implying that Radiohead or the Beatles are in any way the same music.. I am just saying that they are respected by music fans. People may not 'get' the music, but they recognize that these bands were artists in their own right and there is something special about them.

Maybe, but even though I'm not The Beatles' number one fan or anything like that, there's a big difference between them and Radiohead. The Beatles are iconic - Radiohead aren't!!

^That isn't the same. Everyone knows the names of The Beatles and could name several of their songs at least.

You could never say the same about Radiohead.

That's cause Radiohead haven't been around for too long yet. And I wouldn't say 'everyone' that is pushing it.

The vast majority of people who know anything about music. Ask anyone on here.

I restate my comment.

The Beatles are iconic because they have been around since the early 1960s. They are iconic because they died before 1971. They have been gone for nearly 40 yrs now. They are iconic because people exagerate their greatness. A large amount of the 130million+ of the people who have brought a Beatles album have done so because of this exageration. I say this as one of these buyers and to be honest in todays time they are dinosours. Just like the Beach boys...But this is not to say that for their time they were not making new ground. They started out as the quintisential boyband. From their they expanded. They started experimenting with new things. They were the first band to use tapes to go over redo and experiment with the sounds they made. They were the first band to use loops. They were pioneers...but this is not to say that they did everything.

In contrast Radiohead has been around since 1991. This is only 14-15 years ago. They have released six albums. one of which has been voted greatest concept album of all time by a score of newspapers. They may not be iconic...yet. But then they have not been around long enough to be iconic. But imho they are better then the Beatles ever were. The Beatles are the first quintisential boyband that ever existed. Radiohead are better because they have made a name out of being against all that. They are a rock fusion band who are known for experimentalism. They have tried things that grantedly more nusically succesful bands like Coldplay would not even comprehend. For their creative juices they have probably not been as succesful as they could have been. If radiohead stayed Bends or OK Computer era it is hard to say how succesful they would have been. But they make their name through experimenting and finding out what they can do. And some of the technigues they used were discoverd by the Beatles. Or later bands who have gone on to discover more...but they have taken these ideas and added to them...it is Radioheads greatest ability. To take old ideas and to morph them into something new.

But then that is not to say that radiohead are as enjoyable to listen to as the Beatles ever were. The Beatles have always been one of those bands that you can just listen to and not give a damn how they made their music. Radiohead have always been a band to make you stop go back and listen again...and again...and again trying to work out how they did something. Whether it is a guitar duel or whether it is how they do those bizzare sounds in Backdrifts.

What an excellent way of putting that.

I wanted to vote "I don't understand, I love radiohead"

I like Radiohead. Dunno about loving them though...

I like Radiohead, but I wouldn't say that they are the best thing ever. It all depends on who you are and what you like. Maybe they did influence music, maybe they didn't. It's all about your own interpretation.

I have O.K. Computer because it is their only CD I fell in love with enough to get. It is a brilliant album...I will definitely give them that. :wiseguy:

I think whats great about Radiohead that I feel they have this special style for them, their songs are really deep and the lyrics is just amazing and I love their music. But still, there are better bands.

Radiohead is alright. If it's on, I don't mind hearing it. The only song I truly like is There There.

Radiohead got weirder and weirder as time progressed. The only songs I enjoyed from "Hail to the Thief" were '2+2=5' and 'There There'.

I also really like A Wolf at the Door and Scatterbrain.

It's true, they are getting harder to listen to... It is said that hail to the thief saw them return a bit to their pre-Kid A sound with some songs being their catchiest in a while. On the other hand, the band also travelled deeper into their alien soundscape too
