alex is looking skinnier than his lady friend. if thats possible.

i'm expecting a stoner rock record. but not too sure how that will suit alex's voice and their bassist's style (can never remember his name, is it jamie or nick?)

Humbug... I like it. It's as ornery as ever.

And hey, they actually, finally don't look twelve anymore: :stunned:

Looking bummy. I hope they don't get all heavy. I have been avoiding listening to their new live stuff because I'd much rather hear it first on the album. Kind of nervous about the new style their talking about and what not.

I am going to be honest. The album art SUCKS. Def compared to LP 1 and LP 2. I agree, I havent listened to any new stuff, I head it at Big Day Out 2009 in Jan, but cant remember how the new songs go.. so thats a plus!

Yeah, get rid of the shit album cover please boys!

I like the album cover! I haven't listened to any new stuff, I want to here it all whole on this album.

Arctic Monkeys Unleash Album Art, Dates

AHumbuig_Cover_Art.jpgThe story so far: Sheffield brat-pop upstarts Arctic Monkeys have a new album coming out, their third. It's due August 24 in the UK and August 25 in the U.S. via Domino, and it's called Humbug. The band worked with two producers for this one: Old collaborator James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco and new friend Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age. And now we've got the album cover. It's that picture above, and the washed-out 70s-looking photo supports my theory that this will be the Monkeys' stoner-rock move. Intriguing!

Also, the Monkeys have added a few shows to their festival-packed touring schedule. In August, they'll play three small American club shows amidst all the big outdoor stages. Dates below.

arhghghg i hate it when bands put their faces on the album cover!! very un-alternative haha.

:P You don't really see band faces on album covers that much now do you?

I'm begining to like the cover less and less everytime i look at it, argh!

Stoner-rock

It's actually reducing my anticipation for this album. I dont really want it to come out as much. Odd? Yes. Because i do listen to the songs...

I don't mind the artwork myself. I'm a bit worried about the album itself though, I enjoyed their debut and really enjoyed all the stuff between the first and second albums, I didn't like FWN or The Last Shadow Puppets much though. We'll see...

It's funny cos Alex used to never show his face/do interviews or anything press related, he would have hated the idea of having the band on the cover of the album, other than "I Bet..." and "Brianstorm" the band aren't in their videos either.

They've changed though, they are going to lose a lot of fans with this new record and gain new ones, I feel like I am evolving with them, I loved the first album at the time, can't listen to it so much now other than the odd track (and I actually despise "Mardy Bum" which seems to be a favourite amongst fans of that album) 2nd album came out I was blown away, change in style (for the better) and it did alienate a few fans. Even now I feel like the 2nd album is becoming more of a distant memory in my music catalogue, I feel for that reason (and the fact that I love what I've heard so far) this album is going to be amazing for me, but it's going to be bad for a lot of people, the people who were slightly put off by FWN will now completely dislike the band etc.

I was listening to the Sydney Recordings of Crying Lightening again today, it's so fucking good and a lot of people have already dismissed that track as rubbish.

One of the live demos that got me most excited about the album was "Terror Pocket" bitterly disappointed it's not on the album but I am fairly sure it's going to be on one of the singles as a B-Side

I'm so fucking excited about this album, but I'm trying not to overhype it cos I don't want to be disappointed, it's very hard.

I'm praying for a good, early, high quality leak as it coming out 4 days before Leeds festival means I wont be able to give it a proper listen until AFTER seeing them live again.

To be really cheesy and horrible and to quote the band themselves "Bring on the backlash"

It's not like I'm closed minded to a new style or whatever.

I just really hope they don't go with The Last Shadow Puppets direction. I'd hate that.

I mean that album was pretty good, but not the Monkeys.

i think they are going alot heavier, and that wouldnt be the last shadow puppets.

Ok ok. I wouldn't mind that. I just remember reading somewhere about Alex bringing part of the LSP style back to AM.

Nah, I am more the opposite. I enjoyed shadow puppets but I would like AM to stay true to their form.

hehe hate to beat my own drum but that was my recording of Crying Lightning from the big day out broadcast. at the time i had no idea the impact it would have. it was front page of NME.com for a couple of days. sadly it turned out in mono only, some tech savvy fans fixed that up later.

i've still got parts of that concert hidden away somewhere in my hard drive, just too lazy to get up on the net.

Wow! Really? Nice work! I am glad I cant remember the songs, but they didnt have a massive impact on me on the day I heard them

i've never had the pleasure of seeing the monkeys live. but those who have. Do you rate them highly as a live act?

on camera they dont come across as being anything special.
