May 21, 200917 yr I think the first album was more consistent. Great all the way through. Nightmare has a few dud spots in it around some brilliant songs (505, Flourescent, etc.) SO I am hoping for some more consistency from the 3rd album. By the way, have you heard the Last Shadow Puppets and The Rascals? Similar sound to AM, I like them too! I like The Last Shadow Puppets! :D But only live!
May 21, 200917 yr Weird I know. They have made an video when they play the album live (found it on youtube) and I absolutly love that.. but then I listend to the album and I didn't like it as much..
May 21, 200917 yr http://www.nme.com/news/arctic-monkeys/44813 NEW ALBUM OUT BEFORE END OF AUGUST AND WILL HAVE BLACK SABBATH SOUND!! sorry for the caps but i am insanely excited about this album. there's only one other band (pearl jam) whose first 3 albums i have loved. i'm hoping to add AM to that list. so my expectations are incredibly high so i think i need to embrace myself to be potentially dissapointed......
May 21, 200917 yr Weird I know. They have made an video when they play the album live (found it on youtube) and I absolutly love that.. but then I listend to the album and I didn't like it as much.. You're judging live off a youtube video? I saw TLSP with a full orchestra live at Leeds and my god it was amazing, the hairs on my neck were standing up at certain points, so glad I saw them.
May 21, 200917 yr Also I've known it was end of august for a while and that it was gunna be darker/heaver Josh Homme is producing it :P I can't wait either, the first album seems like a fond distant memory now compared to the band they have become. That's a good thing though
May 21, 200917 yr yeah, i realised now that sounded wrong.. what i meant with "live"was "not the album-version". sorry.
May 22, 200917 yr ^^ are you saying that they will sound like those two bands. or those band's last/latest albums are their heaviest?? i have never quite understood why the arctic monkeys have struggled to enjoy any sort of chart success outside of the Uk and Europe. down here in aus they are basically unknown outside of the alternative scene. i can't imagine a band being more commerically viable than the arctic monkeys. decent lookin fellows, catchy tunes, not too heavy not too slow countless potential hits. where has it gone wrong for them? i know that my countrymen/women will start saying "well nooo they played second last at BDO and their albums always go to number". first it hardly takes 10 000 sales to get to the top of the charts here and secondly only 3 of their songs have made the top 100 charts. something is wrong!! is their record label asleep?
May 22, 200917 yr Nah I am just saying this seems to be a common direction of bands these days. I think they are well known here in oz, the albums sell well enough. I dont think it is realistic to expect any Alternative British Music to 'chart' over here because the people who buy pop-singles online after listening to them on fox fm are idots and have a narrow view of the music the world provides. It's not the record label's fault, its just the changing tastes and preferences of Australian music listeners. Damn you for half predicting my answer!!:P
May 22, 200917 yr i'm very interested to see how Muse's and AM's forthcoming albums fare down here. hopefully i love the albums and everyone else hates them and its easy to get tickets to the gigs. but in this day and age especially in sydney its impossible.
June 2, 200917 yr Arctic Monkeys Announce New Album http://pitchfork.com/news/35485-arctic-monkeys-announce-new-album/ They've already cranked out two albums' worth of snarly, bratty, ridiculously fun post-Britpop, and now the Arctic Monkeys have their third album loaded up and ready to go. This time, though, things are looking a bit different. Domino will release the new Arctic Monkeys album on August 24 in the UK and August 25 in the U.S. The album doesn't have a title yet, but the tracklist is below. The Sheffield band recruited two producers for the new LP. One of those is a familiar face: Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford, who co-produced the band's moderately rougher second album, Favourite Worst Nightmare. But the other producer screams "new direction": Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, who worked with the band in his Mojave Desert studio. So yeah: They went out to the desert with Homme, and their new press photo prominently features long hair and a Sabbath shirt. Something tells me the Arctic Monkeys might indulge some stoner-rock ambitions on this new one. (And if "Fire and the Thud" isn't a stoner-rock song title, I don't know what is.) Given that the band's first two albums gained much of their power from their punchy, straight-ahead energy, it's anyone's guess how things will turn out once prodigious fuzz finds its way into the mix. But we already know that Diddy is on board. In the meantime, the band will play practically every festival in Europe this summer. Tracklist: 01 My Propeller 02 Crying Lightning 03 Dangerous Animals 04 Secret Door 05 Potion Approaching 06 Fire and the Thud 07 Cornerstone 08 Dance Little Liar 09 Pretty Visitors 10 The Jeweller's Hands Posted by Tom Breihan on June 1, 2009 at 5:20 p.m.
June 3, 200917 yr Thanks Briggins, I thought Matt said it was going to be a 14 track album?? 14 tracks were recorded, but i guess only 10 hopefully they will come out as some b-sides or something
June 9, 200917 yr The New Arctic Monkeys Album Title Is... Humbug Yes, Humbug. OK then. As previously reported, Humbug will be released on August 24 in the UK and August 25 in the U.S. by Domino. June 9, 200917 yr The names just keep getting shorter and shorter. I'm expecting a single letter as their next album name.
June 10, 200917 yr ^^ hahhhahaa. its easier to talk about albums that have a short name. this would have to be my most antipated album of the year so far alongside Muse's new one.
June 10, 200917 yr Yeah, fucking terrible title. Thank god the track names, apart from 'propellor' are good. This album will be mega. I can feel it. LP2 was a bit slack.
June 10, 200917 yr i didnt see anything particularly wrong with Favourite Worst. yeh it did lack the 'wow' factor. but i was listening to itjust last night. and its still a very enjoyable listen. now if you're comparing it to the debut then yeah its not that great.
June 11, 200917 yr Humbug... I like it. It's as ornery as ever. And hey, they actually, finally don't look twelve anymore: :stunned:
