yeah most of us would agree with you. its really only the hardcore biased fans who think this is the better thing they've ever done.

YEAH MAN I ONLY LIKE IT COS IT HAS ALEX TURNER WRITTEN ON THE BACK WOOO

I couldn't possibly genuinely think it's a brilliant album

I can't compare it to the others because it is so fucking different.

knobbishness from deaths_friend aside...

I saw them at Leeds and I was so disappointed, Alex showed up clearly on drugs or really drunk, in sunglasses and a leather jacket, getting lyrics wrong etc, made me sad. It was still a decent performance, just shit by their standards.

I've only heard it a few times, and I'm not impressed - sure, I knew it was going to be really different, but it's definitely not a masterpiece as of yet. Hopefully it's a grower, but I guess I'll just have to come to terms with the fact that the old Monkeys are a thing of the past and at least they managed to create two absolutely brilliant albums. Bah.

It's strange, because I'm usually quite open-minded when it comes to musical changes, even when it comes to my favourite bands, but this time I just can't help feeling a bit sad when thinking about the path they've decided to pursue.

On the other hand - I'll be giving the albums loads of chances so in a few weeks time I might have changed my mind.

Once you've heard the album a lot (I do every morning at least), it is very rewarding. Crafty lyrics.

hmmm havent tried Humbug in the morning. my lifestyle doesnt quite accomodate for morning activities so i'll have to make an exception.

I sing whilst having breakfast and doing dishes. It's a good pick me up, singing 'Dangerous Animals', 'Cornerstone' and 'Dance Little Liar'

I'm debating whether to buy tickets for Sept. 16 to see them.

Do you think it was worth it? I've never seen them live, but I've heard they're excellent.

On the other hand, I've heard Alex has done things like that a few times before. :\

AM seem to have something against festivals. their gig at glasto 07 was embarassing and now people are angry with their reading and leeds performance. but i've never seen them live either so cant say too much.

Well, at the BDO festival in Melbourne 2009, they were in fine form, Alex was making jokes with the crowd, sound was great... jokes about the crowd being sprayed ("Let's Hear it for the 'osepipe")

finally i'm listening to Humbug.

thankfully they are back to their sound (a bit); no favourite song yet.

What the fuck are you talking about? It's nothing like either of the previous albums.

at least that one don't sound as the 2nd album to me :dozey:

nevermind.

they've evolved with every album. it will be interesting to see where they go next. would love to see a new album next year. but ive got the feeling alex will be back doing work with LSP after this.

LSP is entertaining though

maybe both in one year, now that would be something

Well the other half of LSP, Miles Kane, quit his band, so Alex Turner may help him with his solo work

oh really?

The Rascals?

that'd be nice

Yeah, so Miles is without a band at the mo.... enter Alex Turner.

i still cant get over the fact that Miles made an album with his "side project' LSP before he made an album with his own band The Rascals.

Priorities. Plus, I guess he was hoping to get some fans to buy Rascals albums once they knew about him.

Result: Failed miserably, LSP made #1 whereas The Rascals made #100.

Yeah, its a shame, I like the Rascals album, but that was a shocking performance.
