Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music

Machina_ii.jpg

Released September 5, 2000

Length 51:11

@ 320 kbp/s

Virgin Records was unwilling to release Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music so close to the first (and commercially unsuccessful) Machina. As is evident by the title, the band was fed up with Virgin. As a final farewell, and as a snub to the unsupportive label, it was released independently. The album was released by The Smashing Pumpkin's own label Constantinople Records. Only 25 total copies were made. The vinyls were shipped via FedEx to several heavily active fans in the online community, with instructions to immediately redistribute it among the fans. Originally, the songs were intended to be the second disc of a double album instead of two separate releases. Virgin declined a double album from the band as the previous Pumpkins album, Adore, had not sold well.

1. "Glass' Theme" – 1:54

2. "Cash Car Star" – 3:18

3. "Dross" – 3:26

4. "Real Love" – 4:16

5. "Go" – 3:47

6. "Let Me Give the World to You" – 4:10

7. "Innosense" – 2:33

8. "Home" – 4:29

9. "Blue Skies Bring Tears" – 3:18

10. "White Spyder" – 3:37

11. "In My Body" – 6:50

12. "If There Is a God" – 2:08

13. "Le Deux Machina" – 1:54

14. "Here's to the Atom Bomb (New Wave Version)" – 3:51

Had the album been crystallized as an "official" pressed release, the song "Let Me Give the World to You" was considered as a single. The original, as-yet-unsurfaced version, was produced by Rick Rubin. It was originally written and recorded for Adore.

Im gonna see them

Siamese Dream FOR SURE!

Then, Meloncollie and the Infanate Sadness

then, Adore!

You may also like the EP that just came out called American Gothic. only 4 songs but deff worth hearing. They are one of my favorite bands of all time. The Aeroplane Flys High has some great b-sides from the MATIS days.... Enjoy! If you like Zietgiest you are really in for a treat listening to ANY of their other albums...

The funny thing is that the unreleased album MACHINA II is better than the released album MACHINA: The Machines Of God...... but then again, also is Playing With Fire by K-Fed.

Everything up til the end of Melon Collie is awesome. Gish is by far their best album.

I would second that , haven't listened to them for a while though , but "Gish" was always my choice album by the "Pumpkins" , enjoyed "Pisces Iscariot" too , even though it is just a collection of odds and ends and not an album proper...

Billy Corgan writes the most touching, beautiful, sometimes painful sometimes dark but overall wonderful lyrics ever,Pumpkins songs convey so much feeling and I think this makes them special not to mention that him along with Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha are all exceptionally talented Musicans, I'm not the biggest Darcy fan myself I think Melissa was a better bass player, I haven't made my mind up on Jeff Scroder or Ginger Reyes yet but Zeitgiest had a few good songs on it.

Pisces Iscariot was awesome!

Sorry I only smash pumpkins on October 30th:rolleyes:

ancient thread....

Recently have fallen in love with this band. I listened to Zeitgest last summer but really didn't like it, just bought Adore and it's amazing.

The Smashing Pumpkins were a great band. I love all 7 of their albums.

adore is actually a great album, people put that down but it is very good!

my favorite album along with Siamese Dream.

So, what do you guys think of the new song "A Song For A Son"? At the beginning I liked it but after a few listens I got tired of it. Nothing special really :\ I wonder how long time we'll have to wait for the next song...

If you liked Zeitgeist then your load will blow upon hearing Pumpkins good music.

This thread keeps re-appearing every 2 years for like a page of posts and then disappears again. I barely ever listen to them anymore and reading my posts at the start of this thread remind me what a stupid little kid I was.

And this is weird, I remember you from like 5 years ago.

Adore is an amazing album, I was listening to it in my car earlier :D

I just keep on listening to Mellon Collie. love love love SP and Chamberlain's drumming style

As amazing as they were, it was sad to see them return with only two original members.

AND Billy's voice can sound a tad whiney now and then.

However a penchant for attractive female bassists and the human drum machine that is Jimmy Chamberlain, as well as a wealth of epic albums, songs and videos mean you can't really fault the Pumpkins before their reformation.

Siamese Dream was just near-perfection, a joy to listen to.

I absolutely adore this band, I discovered them recently, mainly because of all the silversun pickups/smashing pumpkins comparisons. They're older albums are perfection.

I like almost all of their songs but lately I love..

"Cherub Rock"

"Today"

"1979"

"Tonight, Tonight"

"Zero"

"Bullet With Butterfly Wings"

"Disarm"

still working on my collection of them

brilliant band.

Any song recommendations by them?
