My ethics teacher told me' date=' you can't call Buddhism a religion :-o[/quote']

it depends. some buddhists sort of see Buddha as a diety, but others see him merely as sort of an example to follow with your spiritual life. i guess it's not a religion in that you believe in and worship some supernatural power, but it is a religion in that it's a system of beliefs and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.

or i could just be spewing hogwash out of my mouth. through my fingers. that are typing. or something.

I think he meant that there's no God to believe in. You can't call Buddha a god, if you ask me

right but just because there's no god to believe in doesn't mean it's not a religion. depends on how strict your definition of the word "religion" is, i guess.

hm, i think it is a religion...

i thought it was all about being enlightened with the aim that in the end everyone is in the state of 'buddah' and there'll be happiness all over the place

I think the Roman-Catholic chruch, the Protestant church and the Islam are religions. But I wouldn't call Buddhism a religion. It's just.... different

Im an athiest, we live in a scientific universe where I don't believe anything happens religiously, only from the chaos theory and this planet started from 'The Big Bang' :)

i dont appreciate your thread.

why does religion matter here? im afraid to answer. just saying i like Bush caused a big ass. i dont want to start another. all your doing is leading yourself down the wrong path, which you will regret. and causing people to get hurt. :(

Hahahaha you've been on Coldplaying forums for too long, fortunately I have not. If somehow this makes me look bad then I truly dont care, this thread is only offensive if you watch TellyTubbies as a profession, good day.

PS Before your thread there was not one sign of someone opposing another person or of any disagreements/arguments/etc. Ironic?

and my scientific laptop screen is dusty :o

yeah i'm always afraid of cleaning mine off other than wiping it lightly with a paper towel because i'm scared of damaging the screen.

i'm a protestant, and i do believe in God. however i dont believe that going to church every sunday or whatever strengthens your faith or that by drinking or doing "unchristian things" God will not be there for you :D

i believe that God has a plan for everyone, but it is up to the individual to make the right decisions ;)

Im a very big christian i go to babtist church on sundays and wednesdays and when im feeling bad i always feel that god will be there.....i dont hate ppl who dont belive in god.....their decision...but im a very religious person....and when i cuz.....i always feel bad.....b/c i feel like um being judged...i dont know but anyhoo...im a christian BUT im not at a point where i can say im at one with god....im sure i need to be saved again but im not at the point yet.....soon maybe....but god helps me alot.... so im a christain and baptist :)

and i agree with you that god loves everyone and to know that that exist gets me through the bad dayz! hes an everlasting friend :-D

i am the exact same way too.

I went to a baptist high schol grades 10-12 and I hated it...they crticised me because I went to a catholic high school and becaue my chrisitan branch believed in things they disagreed...

that's why I tend not to talk religion...I think that as a chrisitan is doesn't matter how much u go to church or good u let others know that u acknowledge..as long as u know the truth (bible) and u understand it and u can achieve spiritual happiness and peace..thats good enough....

I see alot of ppl christian, buddhist or whatever get soo caught in their religious doctrine that they forget the source of their believe...

I'm not religios at all! Imean gog...... what's that? I realy don't believe in god, but I do respect people who do. I have a sister who say I believe in god but she doesn't seems to be a very good person... In actitude I mean....... maybe because of that and because I've never met truly religions persons I don't ...............besides I like more existencialism and razoning which are not very into god................. But I do like Jews, I mean the Jewish ( thre religion) but I can't turn myself into Jewish because there's no sinagogas in here, o Jews.... nothing!

Well, honestly I've been to synagogues maybe... 5 times in my life  I hardly know anyone who actually goes there unless they're very religious. It's not my thing at all  lol

<jumps around, cause ian is an athiest ;) :D

i believe...

... in music baby

yeeeeeeeash :D

i dont believe in god, or at least not in god in the traditional sense. i was brought up to believe in god and i went to a catholic school my whole life.. for too long i "believed" in god solely out of habit and out of fear, fear of death and fear that life would have no reason or meaning if i did not. but it never really worked for me, i could never accept the idea of good and evil, everything seemed so black and white and i couldnt accept 'god as an all mighty father-figure, up there in the sky' idea. i eventually stopped fooling myself and decided that life doesnt necessarily have to have a reason or purpous for me to be happy.

I dont like talking about it unless I talk about it in great detail... Either read all of this, or dont read it. Only read this with an open mind

Corruption in Church: I can understand why a lot people decide to become atheist, and I dont blame you. I blame the people who say they're Christians, who say things like "Believe in Jesus or Burn in Hell" and condemning people left and right. The Bible is the most misinterpreted book in the entire world. The numerous denominations are proof. Its the only connection between God and man. People want to change things to include their own opinions. A verse to one person may look like "discipline leads to maturity" and to another it will read "beating your children is good for them." House of Prayer is an example. They beat their children during the service for the "sins they have commited" The church was discovered and then shut down. Note: not every church is corrupt, I'm just stating that there is corruption in church, and its giving everyone the wrong idea about God.

Point / Counterpoint: Many atheist activists use people like Jerry Falwell as an example to try and prove that Christianity is corrupt. The thing about Christianity is that people like Jerry Falwell are not reflections of the belief itself, but a distortion; a misinterpretation of their own ignorance. God did not tell him that Women are inferior and non-believers are worthless pagans. Ignorance and bigotry can become so strong that it can lead to disillusions, distorting the truth, and in the end, it makes the person feel better, but they're still wrong. People like Jerry Falwell disappoint me, because they make decent, loving Christians look just like him, just because we bear the title "Christian." Jesus never approached someone and condemned them for their ways. He gave everyone a chance. Being understanding, forgiving, mature, and (above all else) loving are the major virtues that Christianity expresses. But people seem to forget that. Once again, we are far from perfect.

One of my best friends is an atheist. I dont blame him either, he has been scarred by his parents, who abuse their own belief structure. For years, they would wake him up every Sunday morning, and tell him he was going to hell if he didnt go to church. This lead him to associate God with his parents. And now his hatred for God is no different than his hatred for his parents.

In my song "The Witness" I talk about the corruption of the church.

"Condemn all you want, it'll only come back around"

A pastor from Alabama visited West Georgia University. He brought a camera man with him. He stood outside one of the buildings and condemned girls for wearing shorts, saying they were "trashy harlots." And he told them to repent and turn to Jesus or burn in hell. He had rights to visit the college, so no one could tell him to leave. The man with the camera recorded the whole thing and made sure that if anyone assaulted the pastor, that he would have evidence to press charges.

Why I Believe: I go outside and see all the beauty, the intricate design, the colors, and I think "how could this have come from nothing?" I believe in God because its logical and evident to me. Not because of a hunch, and not because of being raised to believe, we were given life, which is the most beautiful gift anyone could ever receive, and people take it for granted by having so much hatred.

If you're undecided, study, seach for what you believe in. And STAY AWAY FROM CHURCHES if you want to study Christianity. Stay away from people who dont know what they're talking about. Go check out some books by Dr. James Kennedy, who has 9 PHDs so he obviously knows what he's talking about. Or even watch "Dogma." Kevin Smith tells it like it is. Dont just float through life not knowing what you believe in.

Christianity is not about being religious, its about having faith, good ideas, and love.

oh happy bday btw! Little Nemo, l just noticed it was last thursday  happy belated bday

I don't think God is a separate entity - I think God is actually each one of us - the 'Good' part of us, like the 'Devil' is the personification of the bad part. Sounds simplistic, I know, but it explains everything. When you 'look to God' for the answer, you look to yourself. When 'God has a plan' for you, it means that you are relinquishing your freedom of choice and giving yourself up to Fate - Fate, there you are, another word for God. I don't think God is outside us, beaming down on us in a kindly, fatherly way. We can stop looking outside ourselves for the answers and begin to rely on ourselves and take full responsibility for our actions - not saying 'it's God's will that I do this' - it's not, it's YOUR will that makes you do it!

I LIKE being grown up!! he he :D
