January 23, 200620 yr 1. people are quick to hate you for your opinion / make enemies 2. there's a good chance you'll be made fun of 3. you can't see someone's mannerism 4. 100% of people are always 50% wrong ... (I also believe I'm guilty of those things) reasons it's good to have a debate 1. you find out about each other / make some friends 2. you can read what you're saying and correct yourself / make sure you make sense and go back to things 3. sometimes even the people you disagree with will be better friends with you, and those are the best, (imho) 4. you learn a lot (trying to get a poll and it broke :stunned:)
January 23, 200620 yr People always tell you what is right and what is wrong. Besides for me nothing like a "one on one" conversation to discuss an important issues!
January 23, 200620 yr well, i think discussions and debates is not about whos right or wrong, is just seeing ppls opinion about stuff and respecting it, but still being able to show your point of view. the good thing in a forum like this is that we have ppl from soooo many diferent places around the world. each one with their opinions, experiences and cultures, and its good to see all those diferences in good debates. but of course... sometimes the things just get nasty!!

January 23, 200620 yr Debates oh debates.. I read most of the stuff here, but sometimes I don't even bother in posting something because I'm just too lazy to type everything I want to say. I would never finish :/ and I'm always doing something else (having a dozen windows open). :embarrased:
January 23, 200620 yr some people who debate )and I love debating) get really upset when they see an idea that they disagree with. That is just lame. the whole point of the debates is to get your view out there and be prepared to stand up for it...but don't get upset or anything. No one is gonna come shoot you for not having the same opinion...so cool it anyway. it's cool because, (and this has not happened for me yet) I have stuck to my ideas, and it is hard for me to see it the other way, not from stubborness or beccause I have a closed mind...cuz I don't believe I do....but just cuz no one has been able to change much ;)

I can't say I don't offend people sometimes, but that's because some people are so fragile that when I disagree outrightly, they take it to heart. I only get a bit fiercer if they begin to disrespect my opinions or other people's opinions... I've seen things written on here by people in the middle of debates, where replies will be quoting someone and saying: "That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard." I mean c'mon, it may not be a personal comment, but if you want to disagree with opinions you should be a bit more tactful about it. 95% of debates are done in a nice manner.

(that's not true, but someone might) It's hard for me to make sure I'm being nice and to find people who are nice in a debate who are willing to debate.

But personally, if I see something I disagree with (Or agree with strongly and have something to add to it) I will reply to the thread, always in a nice manner. It's that simple, that I dont even realise I'm doing it. I dont go officially seeking out official debates and monitoring who's debating in them and how nice they are, that would take far too long.
January 23, 200620 yr i understand the thing about being nice eric said. some ppl here can take things to the personal side. i was telling him bfore. im scared of debating with some ppl around here coz sometimes u can disagree strongly to something they said and they think u r just being rude to them. if its a person u dont really know, ull probably wont care so much, but if u always talk to the person u can ruin the 'friendship'. sometimes i just read the debates and dont post coz ppl r already all mad at each other...

January 24, 200620 yr face to face debates are a lot better,you can read the other person's body language and defend your opinion better unfortunately,when i'm at the forum it's impossible to debate 'cos no-one posts
