Friends With the Opposite Sex

Featured Replies

Can this be done?

I mean, of course it can, but if you have a friend who is of the opposite sex, and you get on brilliantly well with them, you find them attractive too, whats stopping you from going out with them?

I have held back relationships from friendships, but only for the reason that I'd prefer them as friends, and I dont even know why that is. It's a shit reason but it's all I have.

I have the fear of going out with someone I liked a lot as a friend, and then screwing up our relationship, and leaving them on bad terms, that would really hurt. Right now I'm in one of those situations, and I want to keep my friendship with her, but then again, should I go for it? I could be happier, y'know.

Argh.

I see.

I guess I'm in a travelling part of my life where I'm meeting new people all the time, and I dont really have the chance to form a sister-brother bond because I havent known them my whole life.

The girl I like who is a good friend, I've only known her for 3 or 4 months, so I guess it's not the same as knowing her my whole life. Maybe it takes that amount of time to really feel like a brother to someone.

Well......I can't say he is something ike my brother....we know each other since 8 years now............don't know,...........we are friends to have fun...somehow

I've only known my best friend for a year, but he knows me better than anyone. We tried a relationship, but it didn't work out and now we're best friends. I can't imagine him as anything other that that...

Maybe when you are young have a relationship with you best friend could be a huge mistake. But with the years it does not sound crazy!

This forum reads my mind.

Whenever something happens to me... A thread is made on this forum about it :P

Yeah, I actually have a few friends that are girls but I hang out with boys

Charl! I wuv you.

Yeah I want to give it a go sometimes but other times I'm just sure I dont know how to do it properly. I met this girl in England, and even though she doesnt live too far from me back home in Ireland, there is a bit of a distance problem and there's no way I could live with that.

I don't find a majority of my guy friends attractive, like at all. That helps.

Hahahaha Laura! Maaan I missed you.

Yeah I think I should hang around with more ugly girls :idea2:

And I, you.

Hahaha..it's not that they're "ugly" so to speak, they're just not my type, I guess.

problems with friendship with the opposite sex is that thing will be never clear

it's all about quiproquo :smartass:

should i dissert about that ?

I've fallen for friends, but right now I have 2 groups. One with boys and girls (i'm closer to te girls) and another one with boys only (they're like 5,I'm not romantically interested in any of them).

I love having guy friends, they're better than girls in a way because there's not that much competition between them...I mean, they won't fight over the same boy or talk about you behind your back :P

Are you going to the match tomorow man? I think it'll be solid, cant wait.

I say yes. Of course you can be just friends with the opposite sex.... its the opposite sex's significant other who might have the problem...

I am going thru this with my best friend who happens to be male.. and his new girlfriend is very jealous of our friendship. She honestly has NOTHING to worry about... we're not in the slightest bit attracted to each other.. and he isnt even my type... (then again.. I don't think I have a type) but anyhoo.. girls need to be confident enough in their relationships to not worry about his friends.. I mean.. they (the friends) were there waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before you were.. and chances are, they'll be there after as well.. to mend the pieces of their broken heart when she stomps and crushes their soul. :)

rant over

I think we all have like a barrier in our mind hindering us from falling in love with people we have as friends..

plus..if you really have a "connection", then you'd felt it from the start..

so it really depends..for how long have you been friends? and how sure are you about her feelings?

good luck!

I'm going... FOR MY BIRTHDAY WHICH IS IN LESS THAN 3 HOURS. Oh yeah.

I hate Southampton (I have south coast ties...) :D

You should know that, or ARE YOU NOT REALLY PSYCHIC AT ALL?

well, in theory they'd work.

but in reality, one or the other will develop feelings for them, either conscioulsy or subconsciously, at some point during the friendship. unless they happen to be gay, of course.

are YOU gay, reilly? :wideeyed:

:stunned: I'm not gay... neither is he lol however.. we did date at one point in our lives.. so I guess we got that all out of our systems.

so basically.. he wasn't that great in the sack so.... we don't have that problem. :)

my best friend is a girl!!!! and I must say she's gorgeous!!!

the funny is she had a crush on me when we met, then she got over it and I had a crush on her... nothing ever happened and we stayed good friends.... today (6 years later) we're best friends... :D
