Gwyneth Paltrow: Not Being With My Kids Is 'Really Hard on Me' | PopEater.com

Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow loves acting, but it has to be a pretty compelling part to take her away from her favorite role: mom to daughter Apple and son Moses. Playing troubled alcoholic country superstar Kelly Canter in 'Country Strong' fit the bill, as does her role in 'Contagion,' as an infected working mom in the new Steven Soderbergh film shooting now.

When considering movie roles, "you want to put yourself in the hands of someone who's really good or where you might learn something that you never thought you'd learn because my time out of my house and away from my kids is no joke," a dead-serious Paltrow told PopEater while doing press in Los Angeles for 'Country Strong.'

"I am not putting them to bed right now, I'm here, and that's really hard on me. But at the same time, it's what I do, so when I do my work, I want to be inspired. I want to bring home something they'll be proud of and they'll look back and go, 'Wow, Mom was alright'."

When she's home in London with her children and her husband, Coldplay's Chris Martin, she is extremely hands on, she stresses. "I'm at everything and I pick them up everyday, take them [to school] every day, do everything for them, homework, bath ...When I'm home, I'm extremely 100% present."

Though Paltrow has often talked about her love of living in Europe, it sounds like she may be missing the green, green grass of home ... just a little bit at least.

"My favorite thing about [living in London] is it's very green. We're in the middle of the city, but we have grass and trees and a little swing set [and] I can take Apple to the Royal Ballet to see 'The Nutcracker.' There's a quality of life in terms of a big city there that's pretty great, but, you know, I miss home. It's hard. I love it there, but the older I get the more I miss, specifically, California."

Gwyneth Paltrow Finds "Country Strong" a Struggle - ABC News

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - There is nothing easy about overcoming an addiction and for Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays an addict in her new movie "Country Strong," it was a battle simply to comprehend why people abuse drugs and alcohol.

"Country Strong" debuts on Wednesday with Paltrow, an Oscar winner in romantic comedy "Shakespeare in Love," playing singer Kelly Canter. The actress strums the guitar and belts out tunes with ease, yet, getting her head around Kelly's drinking and drug use was among her most difficult work as an actress.

"I just couldn't understand how you could be so drunk that you could wreck people's lives and then wake up the next day and pretend everything was fine," the actress, 38, told Reuters. "I struggled with that."

To prepare, Paltrow turned to her "Iron Man" co-star Robert Downey Jr., who has recovered from addictions in his own life to stage a career comeback.

"I asked Robert, 'How does this work?'" said Paltrow. "He was really articulate about addiction and the psychology behind it. He really helped me a lot."

In the movie, country singer Canter is a star of the music industry when her drinking and drug use lands her in rehab. She is discharged before she is ready and embarks on a comeback tour, planned by her husband James (Tim McGraw).

Joining Canter on tour is her sponsor -- a budding young singer named Beau Hutton (Garrett Hedlund) -- and rising starlet Chiles Stanton (Leighton Meester). But they only complicate Canter's return to the stage.

Canter's affection for Hutton threatens to come between her and her husband, and Stanton has her mind set on overtaking the Canter and ascending to the top of country music charts.

GOING COUNTRY

Paltrow is no stranger to music. She has sung on-screen before, in her late father Bruce Paltrow's "Duets," and she is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. When she sang the song "Country Strong" at last month's Country Music Association awards, she earned a standing ovation.

Yet, she said playing Canter offered new challenges. For one, a country star who sings in major arenas to tens of thousands of fans requires a booming voice.

"I could always sing a bit and I have good pitch, but my singing teacher really kicked my butt. She was like, 'There's a big voice in there, we're gonna get it out!"

Paltrow sings three tunes on the film's soundtrack, including "Coming Home," which was nominated for a Golden Globe last week. A fourth song is a duet with Tim McGraw titled "Me and Tennessee," written by Martin.

The actress also said she enjoyed the portraying Canter because she identifies with being a mature woman in an industry that favors youth.

"I loved playing a woman who was feeling her age and worried about the young twenty-something coming up and stealing her thunder," said Paltrow.

After working almost non-stop in the 1990s and early 2000s, Paltrow slowed her career's pace in recent years to focus on being a mother. She has two children with Martin, daughter Apple, 6, and son Moses, 4.

She said winning the best actress Oscar for 1998's "Shakespeare In Love," left her feeling like there was little else to accomplish as an actress, and when her father died in 2002, she was overcome with grief and didn't want to work anymore.

"My dad died, then I met my husband and then we had a kid," recalled the actress. "I was like, 'What the hell have I been doing for 10 years? My daughter really redefined my life and the way I approached everything."

After son Moses was born in 2006, "I didn't have the desire to work at all," said Paltrow.

But now she is back with roles in the smash hit "Iron Man" movies. A recent turn in TV comedy musical "Glee," introduced her to a whole new set of young fans and "Country Song" has lovers of that genre singing the praises of Paltrow.

"It's funny how much I feel country music is a part of me even though I didn't grow up surrounded by it," said Paltrow. "I love how authentic it is. I find it homey and comforting. It's about being who you are, full of soul and truth."

Actress BLYTHE DANNER has heaped praise on her daughter GWYNETH PALTROW's parenting skills, insisting she's a much better mum than she was.

The Meet The Parents star tells WENN her daughter is an "extraordinary" mother with two "very wise little ones".

She says, "She's a much more patient mother than I was. When she had children she was just completely devoted to that and listens to them and talks to them.

"They never have temper tantrums because she knows how to sweep them aside and talk to them and they listen. She's very rational and I just admire it. I just don't know how she does it really. It just puts me to shame that I wasn't better at it.

"They're very wise little ones. I've been trying to sell an apartment that I have in California and little Moses, who was three at the time, said, 'Lalo, do you have three houses?' He was thinking of the New York apartment and I was building a little solar thermal house because I've been involved with the environment longer than Gwyneth's alive, and I said, 'Well, I guess I do Mosey,' and he said, 'I know you don't need three houses, do you Lalo?' It was just wild!"

she calls him mosey?

as if he won't get enough shit at school with his name!! :P

poor moses! bad enough his name, but being called mosey??? oh dear god!!!

Moses is actually a VERY common name where I come from! lol My baby cousin was almost named Moses. :D And, there are about three other men named Moses in my family.

They are such adorable children! They remind me of old paintings of cherubs! :)

I have a friend named Moses and have heard of many other people with the name. It's really not that random.

Why is this thread allowed to live? I'd rather talk about Chrissy than his wife :whatever: Honestly people, you sound like a bunch of :drunk:en :elvis:es singing out of tune!!!

:laugh3:

Don't. Just don't.

But atleast you're a Coldplay fan.....................................

I read today that Gwyneth said Moses is in love with Faith Hill's youngest daughter. I thought it was funny.

Gwyneth Paltrow 'to sing at New Year'

Gwyneth Paltrow is reportedly set to join her husband Chris Martin on stage for a lavish New Year’s Eve party.

The actress has been showing off her vocal skills recently after playing a singer in new movie Country Strong and has revealed she would consider releasing an album. Gwyneth’s spouse Chris is the frontman of British alternative rock group Coldplay, who have recently been working on their new album.

It has been claimed Gwyneth and Coldplay will perform at the launch of new hotel The Cosmopolitan, in Las Vegas, on December 31, and could be paid up to $1 million each.

"To my knowledge, this is the biggest spend on New Year's Eve - $25 million over the weekend for 4,000 guests," Andrew Fox, CEO of newyearseve.com, which sells event tickets, told New York Post.

It appears Gwyneth and Coldplay won’t be the only high-profile acts on the bill. Hip-hop star Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé Knowles – who are close friends with Gwyneth and Chris – are also rumoured to be performing at the extravagant opening.

However, a spokesperson for the hotel insists the acts are yet to be announced and has denied the concert is set to break records. "Gwyneth and Beyoncé are not confirmed for any kind of performance at this point. It would be incorrect to use the number $25 million," The Cosmopolitan representative added.

Rep: Gwyneth Paltrow Won’t Be Joining Coldplay On Stage On NYE | Access Hollywood

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Despite a new report, and her recent foray into singing, “Country Strong” star Gwyneth Paltrow has no plans to get on stage with her husband — Coldplay frotnman Chris Martin — in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve, her publicist told Access Hollywood on Thursday.

There’s “absolutely no truth” to the rumor, Gwyneth’s rep told Access, noting though that the actress will be in Sin City to welcome in the New Year.

On Friday, the New York Post’s Page Six claimed that the couple, who are rarely seen together in public, would appear on stage together at a New Year’s bash being held by the recently-opened luxury Cosmopolitan hotel.

Coldplay and Jay-Z are set to perform at the NYE event. Beyonce is also expected to be in attendance with her husband, but a rep for the singer was not immediately available to comment on her participation when contacted by Access.

While they’ve never appeared on a red carpet together, Gwyneth was once on stage with her husband in 2006, but it wasn’t for his band’s show.

The couple, who have two children together – Moses, 4, and Apple, 6, – joined their pal Jay-Z at a concert in London at the Albert Hall. Gwyneth sang back up as they performed “Song Cry,” a cut from Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint’ album.

At the time, Chris had recently collaborated with Jay-Z on the rapper’s 2006 album, “Kingdom Come.”

Gwyneth has long kept her relationship with Chris out of the public eye, something that likely stems from her previous high-profile romances — with Brad Pitt in the mid-‘90s and with Ben Affleck in the late ‘90s.

“It was strange to be part of a public couple,” Gwyneth told E! News in a new special, which aired on Wednesday evening.

In the special, Gwyneth further opened up about her post-partum depression, which she suffered after Moses was born in 2006.

“You don’t want anybody to know that you’re depressed or crying all the time, there’s this shame that we bring to it and it’s incredibly debilitating and scary and you just don’t feel like yourself,” she said.

I knew it was bullshit, lol.

well dah why the hell would they perform together if they dont even go out in public together
