I am big Radiohead fan and am happy to listen to some of Coldplays older stuff. I respect both bands.

 

Radiohead and Coldplay are like Apples and Oranges, there both fruit. but when it comes down to it, just aint the same thing.

 

Radiohead are a group who sit and produce stuff that they want to hear, they change, experement and have had a go at a good few styles of music (and if you ask me, have come up with a few of their own). Clearly these guys are not scoped in with a target market, and if they were they would have produced more stuff like OK Computer and The Bends, their two most popular albums. Insted there doing exactly what they want to do, which is why they moved on and we have works like Kid a.

It may not be beauty in a form that can be appreachiated easily, but seems so to me.

 

Coldplay seem able to reach a much broarder audience with there music, and are pritty good at it from what I hear from other fans like yourself. Though from what I can tell from their music, their style has not changed much, I guess this kind of progression keeps them secure, which is pretty convenient for them I guess. but I dont know much about their music personally so I really should'nt say much.

 

Compairing these bands on a level where you can come off deciding which is truly better simply does not work, at least where I am conserned. They are just different.

 

Although I know which I prefer.

i blame all those Coldplay fans who come every week to Radiohead forums and create threads like: "Coldplay are much better than Radtiohead"... just creating this to piss off the RH fans...? :thinking:

Well of course..I would never go into another band forum to say Coldplay are the best (just because for me they aren't :P)...in the italian U2 forum I'm writing in I don't say that, we just discuss about their music, write down some news and that's all, there's no point in opening threads like that one, the only aim is to get the other band's fans pissed off :)

i cant get enough of 2+2=5 on johnathan ross or whatever..on youtube its great.

It seems kind of funny to me now, but it took me a long, long time to give Radiohead a chance, mainly because their fans seriously scared me. Many of them can be a bit... intense. Of course I finally did give them a good listen and it was a bit of a where have you been all my life moment. :D

 

But yeah, I think it's easy to forget that a die-hard fan can give as much of an impression of the band as the music. Fair or not, it happens.

Same here! Even now I'm still a bit iffy with Radiohea fans.. I mean I love RH, but I wouldn't even think of stepping foot in any RH forum. I know I once went in a Oasis forum with a Coldplay-related name and I just got slated every single time I posted. I'm so glad this forum isn't like that, so pointless. :freak:

As much as there will always be bands that I can't stand, I will never understand the snobs who think putting down other people's tastes is evidence of their own. All it actually shows is a lack of empathy.

I would never slag off bands like Radiohead or Oasis just because they might be perceived as "rivals" to Coldplay, as I respect what they do, even though I might not be the greatest fan.

I was the same with HIM forum, they usually like bands that are louder,

however i was surprised to find Jose Gonzalez and Bob Dylan threads( though not too many hits) and Franz Ferdinand.
