CLOUDNINE
so ive been a huge movie buff since about the age 4, subsequently seeing probably thousands of movies over the last twenty years. Anyways, today I was just thinking to myself some of probably many films that I personally believe to be unjustly underrated. Here are three that come to mind: 1) The Count of Monte Cristo- Never had any expectations about the film and never really heard anything about it before I had seen it at the video store. Turns out that while it may be yet another remake of the famous story, the movie itself while maybe not being overly deep, is in the end a highly engaging and entertaining film. It stars Guy Pierce and Jim Caviezel. (2002) 2) American Psycho- Seems to be a cult classic that never seem to appeal to the mainstream. Nonetheless its a great adaption of the novel, in which is yet another display of how talented Christian Bale is as an actor. 3) Vanilla Sky- Most people I know either hate it or love it. There doesnt seem to be any real grey area when it comes to others opinions of this film. For me, I think the film is brilliant, in which it should at least be praised for its originality in a time of sequels and remakes. Anyways, just wondering what films others may think have been grossy underrated.
Professor Peedston
You realize Vanilla Sky was actually a remake, right? My pick is Groundhog Day. And pretty much anything else with Bill Murray in it. And Eyes Wide Shut. Despite Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman being in it, it isn't nearly as bad as everybody says it is.
maiu
The Count of Montecristo is an amazing movie, and very underrated indeed. Jim Cavinzel was great in it, so was Guy Pierce
CLOUDNINE
Yeah Bill Murray's great for sure, love Rushmore. totally forgot that Vanilla Sky was a rehashing of the original non american film. But can we let that small detail go considering its a remake of a film not originating from the same country? haha. I also remembered another film that i enjoy thats imo underrated in GREAT EXPECTATIONS.

busybeeburns
Kingpin. The most extraordinarily fantastic film ever. Ever. And there is Bill Murray again :)
mc_squared
I agree. Groundhog Day is one of the funniest movies ever made. That is one film I can watch again and again - and there aren't many that fall into the category for me.

It has a great storyline and the acting is awesome on Eugene Hutz's part and Boris Leskin's part. And for Liev Schreiber's first time directing, I think he did an excellent job. Yeah, it might've been a little slow in the beginning of the movie...but I quite enjoyed it!
evidenceoftruth
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Finding Neverland And coincidentally, both star Kate Winslet, whom I think is brilliant :x

autumnjoy
I absolutly love Lost in Translation. It's an amazing film - so beautiful to watch the scenery and how these people are interracting with each other and at the same time this foreign city they're in. Amilie - I still know *a lot* of people who've never heard of it or won't watch it because of subtitles. If I had a "movies you must watch while being alive" list, this would be in the top five. and this one is a lot lesser known.. it's from 1942 and has Ronald Regan in it.. but it's quite possibly my favorite film. About a small town boy who becomes one of the first psychologists in America and the dark secrets people in the town have... really great movie. The Faceman
Mine would have to be Battlestar Galactica: The Movie, 3 Men and a Little Lady and Around The World in 80 Days (The Steve Coogan version of course).

kekita
The Phantom of the Opera Wag the Dog Malcom X (Denzel Washington has been underated in the past he should have gotten an oscar for this and many previous roles >( ) has gotten rave reviews but has not really been acknowledged by the mainstream, Turtles Can Fly ... one of the few movies that ripped my heart out and made me cry. I agree. People are lazy to read in a film and yet they read every single day something. I don't think a day goes by in which I didn't read anything at all. Guest LiquidSky
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Finding Neverland And coincidentally, both star Kate Winslet, whom I think is brilliant :x I almost didn't watch Finding Neverland just because I already know the story of Peter Pan until I finally made time to watch it and when I did, I almost cried at the end :embarassed: There was a lot of things I wans't expecting on it. It is such a beautiful film :nice: Eternal Sunshine of.... is a good movie as well. I loved it too

Space Cadet
The Shadowlands One of Anthony Hopkin's most unknown and arguably best performances. It's about the author C.S. Lewis' late in life romance with an American named Joy Gresham.
