Does Keane still sound like Coldplay ? (Hamburg Song = Life is For Living??)

I know there is another thread about Keane being sick of Coldplay comparisons, but I read how they were sick of it, and I thought to myself ... hmm, is the new album totally or even slightly different from Coldplay?

That's debatable, and is being debated in the other thread. However, I more wanted to talk about Hamburg Song. Is it just me, or does the song have a remarkable similarity to Life is For Living??

to me the organ sound is soo similar!

anyways let me know what you think.

I don get the question..could u explain more please??

anyway..here is an Explaination for the song

Hamburg Song was written in America - I seem to remember writing it on a guitar in the back of the bus. But the first time we ever got together and did a demo of it, was in Hamburg on a tour last year [it was 2004].We had a really great day - it was the first time we'd done any work on any new songs and we had a day off so we went into a studio and just worked on some new demos, and Hamburg Song was one of them. It was just labelled on the tape box as "Hamburg Song" and we never got round to changing it. Somehow the name seemed to fit really well with the song

Lyrically I guess it's about... again, it's a bit like Atlantic, it's about a fear of what we've got slipping away and I guess it's a plea just to remember what a great thing it is to have a bond between people. And even if you all go off and you do different things and you make different friends and have all these adventures as people do - it's just a plea that at the end of it all you're still the backstop in someone's life, as it were.

When we demoed it up, we did it very very simply, and then started to play it live a little bit and we played it very very simply, and Tom's just playing an organ on it. And there was definitely a temptation to turn it into this big ballad, and we just felt ... we actually tried it; we thought we better try it, so we tried putting some drums on it, and that song is all about atmosphere - in fact the whole record, the most important thing was to capture an atmosphere. And we just felt that the best way to do that with Hamburg Song was the way that we'd done it to start off with, which was really really stripped back and simple, so we kept it that way." - Tim - Podcast 3 (30th May 2006)

yeah keane still sounds like coldplay ... but now they also copy travis ... i really don't like them ... can't stand to hear any keane's song on the radio ...

I am sorry...stop these comparisons..It kinda Reminds me with Britney spears,,and christina Aguilera ..!!!! :P

Anyway...one of the things that ppl dont know,,that most of the songs in Hopes and Fears (Keane Debut Album) were written in 1999, before Coldplay were even Well Known worldwide, I mean,,no one is copying the other,,they have got different ways...and I think that Tim is great! he can write his own Music...!!!

Stop that Coldplay Keane thing..!!please!

lmfao, sorry but that's just the way I roll. :laugh4: I hear similarities between Keane and Coldplay. But then I hear more similarities between Coldplay and U2 (and Radiohead and.... etc LOL). So I'm over it.

I think people are a bit too obsessed with calling a band out for "copying" a sound. It's getting boring now.

I've never understood the comparisons, either - Keane sound nothing like Coldplay, IMO. They both have their own original sound, and are both talented bands in their own right.

Keane are actually tied right now with Coldplay as my fav band. I couldn't pick one over the other - they're both equally wonderful.

And I just had to mention that Keane's new album kicks major ass. It's perfect from start to finish.

Haha I had to think of that thread when I had a conversation with a girl in Italy a few days ago, we watched MTV Italia and they showed a Keane ad and I said "Yaaay, Keane", and she said "Oh no, I can't stand Keane, they sound so much like Coldplay, I don't like that stuff!" and I immediately started a long, difficult discussion :D

Their new album sounds absolutely NOTHING like Coldplay. Hopes & Fears did have some obvious tracks that were mildly Coldplay inspired. However, I really cannot hear one song on UTIS that is ANYTHING like what Coldplay's done. They've totally killed that comparison, for me. I love it. I still do hear a little bit of Radiohead, but only once or twice for a few seconds.

The chord progressions, lyrical themes, and basic melodies are nothing like anything Coldplay has (or may ever) done.

*applauds*

yes, who gives a flying fart if they sound alike. coldplay has definitely been an influence, hence, their sound is similar. same with u2. nothing more.
